“Transmitting Message”

What did David 8 say to the Engineers on the way to LV-223 (see "Transmitting Message" displayed in the above hologram facing David 8)?

Wow! :) He was a professional. And what was his reward? He lost his head.

Be careful with that pictures. :)

Fascinating summary.

Thank you Ati for the compliment.

I know, if you trip once in the desert you could get smothered. I will try to be careful. Yes, David 8 is fascinating in every way.

He's a smooth talker Ati so it looks like Dr. Shaw helps him out with that. David 8 was able to pick his chin up (with help) and work with others to regain his previous capability.

There are another shots of the domes in the film, but they can be seen only for moments. I'll add them later.

There was radio silence from the Engineers upon the approach from the Prometheus ship.

One of the crew members claimed "nobody's home" when they received no feedback from the signal they were transmitting nor the signal David 8 sent to the Engineers on the way to LV-223.

They were unable to answer David 8's message he was transmitting (see title image) because someone else visited the Engineers before the Prometheus crew did in the early 2090's.

When Dr. Charlie Holloway asked David 8 if he could read the Engineers' writing, David 8 responded with "perhaps" and then started operating Engineer technology like he was raised on it.

Dr. Elizabeth Shaw's notes (see here) offer interesting theory on her part in regards to the history of the Engineers.

Inquisitor Fifield, thank you for that interpretation but I never said it was the Prometheus crew who left the glaring rifles on David 8's workshop floor.

I believe the mountain of rifles piled on the floor of David 8's workshop on Paradise were left from another crew entirely.

I think I'm looking forward to the settlement of the 'great space rifle debate' in May more than the film itself!!!

Indeed we can safely assume David has a Photographic Memory and he would only need to look at something for a split moment in order to take a snap shot of this that stays in his memory.

Things the humans would have missed, we can be sure David did not.

Yes BigDave, what the humans missed or could not decipher David 8 kept between himself and Peter Weyland.

Indeed and we have to assume prior to when Weyland told David to Try Harder David was not aware of any surviving Engineers at this point.  The question is what did David know prior to this point, what did the Doors have written on them, and what about the Urns..

And when he spoke to Weyland maybe Weyland only wanted to know if...

1) David has found any Engineers

2) Or anything Technology and what it was able to do, in relation to help Weyland extend his life.

Weyland did not come to this place just to look at a Ancient Race of creators History and Technology, he was a desperate man hoping to find these Gods or Technology they had, that would be able to help Weyland conquer his own Mortality.

Yes BigDave.

"Weyland did not come to this place just to look at a Ancient Race of creators History and Technology, he was a desperate man hoping to find these Gods or Technology they had, that would be able to help Weyland conquer his own Mortality."

Peter Weyland admitted to Dr. Shaw that they were there (LV-223, Prometheus Mission) to save him from death when she sat in front of him after testing his MedPod.

As for the domes, they are not discovered by Charlie first but by the Prometheus computer. It shows not only the (nazca) lines, but highlights the dome as well in one of the screens:

"What did David 8 say to the Engineers on the way to LV-223 (see "Transmitting Message" displayed in the above hologram facing David 8)?"

David didn't say anything. It was a pre-recorded message containing a stack of data similar to the record on the Voyager space probes.

"David 8 exhibited traits of preference in changing the color of his hair and styling it close to a movie character he quoted later, Laurence of Arabia, when saying "there is nothing in the desert and no man needs nothing"."

Interestingly David quotes the film twice (as far as I know). The desert quote and "big things have small beginnings" - neither of which were spoken by Lawrence.

Really great shots Ati, especially when the Prometheus window display highlighted the nazca lines. That is when someone claimed "nobody's home" when they were coming into the canyon in view of the pyramids/domes.

Thank you S.M. The stack of data on the gold records on the Voyager space probes held quite a bit of general human knowledge (and a Rolling Stones song according to the movie Starman).

Peter Weyland had different goals related directly to the Engineers so the message sent by David 8 above may have been tailored towards Engineers opposed to a general who we message are as was included in the Voyager Probe message. This, as well as, the direct trip there opposed to a blind destination message like the Voyagers into deep space.

Really good catch regarding Lawrence. I didn't realize that the "big things have small beginnings" was related as well. Do you know who the character was that actually said those things in Lawrence of Arabia that were quoted in Prometheus by David 8?

The desert quote was Prince Faisal (Alec Guiness) and the big things quote was Dryden (Claude Rains).

So, S.M, Obi-Wan Kenobi uttered those words about the desert in Lawrence of Arabia? How prophetic.

Sincerely, thank you for the actor names and quotes correction.

David will continue to do what Weyland programmed him to do, which will no doubt be expanded on in the piano scene
In Prometheus we can see on screen the thirst David displayed to obtain this information and knowledge for his master who he is now free from, which he understood in Prometheus.
In Prometheus I feel Davids character was driven by Lawrence, who he identifies with throughout the film
Intelligence and endurance are Lawrence's main attributes, as are Davids
He uses alarming methods and enjoys them as Lawrence did
Swoops in to solve problems, like rescuing Shaw in the storm with the Engineers head in a swashbuckling manner, like Lawrence
More importantly he wanted his magnificence to be recognised, like Lawrence craved
David will want this magnificence to be recognised in AC 'creating the perfect specimen '
As David dons his cloak in AC, I think his programming will still be driven by Weyland instructions, but his new Character/ Vice will be driven by the cloaked Engineers and their work

"I think I'm looking forward to the settlement of the 'great space rifle debate' in May more than the film itself!!!"

Thank you Goddamn Tropics in here.

I believe that the Unguns debate can rival and surpass the hype leading to the contest between Björn Borg and John McEnroe.

Once the debate gets to that level then who wins the argument regarding the gun pile mountain in David's workshop really doesn't matter.

auximenes, those are perfect representations of how concerned David 8 was with human apprehension of unknown hazards.

The top gif is silly but accurate and the "Everything" bottom black and white graphic below just reminds me of Jeff Lebowski's continuous touching of Mr. Lebowski's awards and accomplishments framed on the wall outside Mr. Lebowski's office.

Goddamn Tropics in here, I believe David 8 took the quote "The trick William Potter, is not minding that it hurts" to heart (or synthetic representation thereof) because he kept repeating it in the mirror styling his hair.

I bet that David 8's hair, after years, on Paradise looked like Farrah Fawsett under that hood above before he restyled it to look respectable for the incoming Covenant colonists.

The long beautiful hair would be a distraction and a "tell" regarding David 8 working in his own interests in preparation for a visit from others. See high and tight locks in natural synthetic brown hair style on David 8 above.

@Ingen

I think David will de-cloak and make Crudup as 'comfortable as possible' before he shows him his years of work

The phrase 'The trick William Potter' is the phrase David identifies with the most.

Not just the Physical pain of the match, which David cannot feel, but 'not minding that it hurts' is perhaps David harbouring some kind of human emotion ( not having a soul ).

The irony of it, later Lozza too battles with his identity/ emotions and Kills a man and enjoys it ( a little like Holloway's downfall)

I don't think this bodes well for the AC crew, as once his creations are released he will not think its immoral and enjoy the outcome, like old lozza did...

Goddamn Tropics in here, that really is great. I'm providing a disservice having not seen all of Lawrence of Arabia and including quotes in the topic. I'll change that.

I too believe that phrase meant more to David 8 than just something recited by a character he emulated to appear more human in actions performed.

The trick is looking past the pain (small burn) toward something more resilient in the scene of Lawrence of Arabia and this is so applicable to David 8's approach to the humans.

David 8 sure does not mind that it hurts.
