I think that is not a pod in the hologram, but a machine or a holo-projector (?), or something similar - it looks like a big sphere, two halves of a sphere, like a mouth...

It looks like a Pac-Man Ati. I thought an escape pod because of the back of the chair and hydraulic metal tubes that look like extensions.

I thought the escape pod (maybe) could be part of the signal information in regards to David 8 giving a plausible explanation of how he made it to Paradise (opposed to telling them about taking the juggernaut and what he did during his ten years). 

If David 8 is going to attack the Covenant crew, then they have to be relaxed with a good story for everyone to be excited on the way down to the surface of Paradise.

Or, it is the helmet Ati behind the hologram reading.

I'm actually leaning towards a helmet and not the David 8 escape pod angle.

I think it's just the helmet on the table behind the hologram. You can see the helmet in front of Tennessee in the 2nd shot.

I agree with you MuzzleNZ. I was zoomed in for way too long and too excited when I thought it was an escape pod.

The signal from Paradise sends the Covenant crew on an all too familiar diversion.

Although the Covenant crew wasn't aware of the Dr. Shaw signal from Paradise until Tennessee received it...the logs showed that the ship was receiving the signal every forty six seconds.

Page 77 of the novelization "No, I don't think it's an echo. It's a straitforward sending. Its in the logs, too. Every forty-six seconds, ever since we dropped out of jump to recharge."

To sum up, Mother took the ship out of jump to recharge in the vastness of space to stop where the Covenant could pick up the very weak signal that showed Dr. Shaw at the navigation board of the juggernaut. And this signal kept sending every forty six seconds all the way in their trip to Paradise. The juggernaut board was dormant where the signal originated from until Captain Oram ran his hand over it.

How was the signal sent every forty six seconds if David 8 didn't know of the Covenant ship and how in all the vastness of space did Mother know independently to stop just at the right time to receive the weak signal that drew the crew to the surface of Paradise?

Page 344 once David 8 put everyone was put to sleep on the Covenant, "Everything was good now. Everything was in its proper place, he told himself, and all was right with the universe."

I believe Mother and David 8 were on the same page before the Covenant crew met him with his Point Break hair and Engineer robe.
