Ridley seems easily frustrated when his films are criticized by people making appeals to reason about continuity. As time has gone on he seems more apt to listen to figures. $$$
Realizing epic visions that span several movies and come full circle is a rarity these days. And for someone like Ridley, I think he'll gladly introduce minor continuity errors to complete whatever path he takes his projects down if it increases box office sales. It looks more and more like he has truly switched tracks with this concept of David as the xeno creator. I could be wrong, but judging by Ridley's past behavior, I think there's a fair chance he has decided to eliminate the concept of the ancient xenomorph.
And if this is his heart's desire, I don't think he cares if it upsets a few fans. A handful of followers is nothing in the face of a large general audience. Ridley will choose the general audiences. And if the general audiences like David as the originator, I don't see Ridley making a point to distinguish between David's xeno and an ancient one
