So I just got out of seeing Alien: Covenant; and I have to say I really enjoyed it, not the best alien movie but still really good, I will put my spoiler reaction up tomorrow.

Look upon my works, you mighty, and despair

I liked it. Can't really post much now because of spoilers. Don't want to ruin it although the trailers showed too much anyway. I will say I thought the ending was good.

Was really let down.

Certain sequences were amazing, but for the most part many things we've seen before and in the case of one in particular, done far better.

SPOILERS:

----------------------

After a blistering opening sequence, I was prepared for great things. Then I felt like Ridley forgot what movie he was making as the film became literally run aground on David's planet. I thought it was never going to end. The little flute/recorder sequence was bewildering in it's length, did anyone from the movie company actually see this sequence and not suggest it be cut down? Lord my eyes were closing.

By the time you were back on the ship, there was hardly any time left in the film, and let me just predict here and now that this film will tank after an ending like this.

ARRGH.

The flute scene was important because it showed David was a bad model and hence how he acts like he does and also clears up some of the why he did what he did in Prometheus. He's a psycho android.

We know why it was important. It could have been done in literally half the time. Nobody cared.  The audience was noticeably restless where I saw it tonight throughout the whole sequence.

@Oceantracks.  I agree with you.  When the movie was over; the theater was simply quiet.  I heard some people laughing.  My kid liked it though lol.

Yes the theater was dead quiet here too.

I remember the resounding applause back in the 80s when ALIENS ended...;)

The theater I went to was full of people saying ewww and the people were happy leaving. I've actually never been in a theater where people weren't silent. People still clap after movies, man that is so tacky. Since I've been an adult and gone to movies I've never heard people clap ever, lol.

Same here OceanTracks.  I saw the original Alien when I was 13 and everyone was screaming and jumping; same with Aliens.  Sadly, this movie didn't create the same effect.  Alien was a B-movie that was upgraded to A status and this was an A-movie production and budget wise and slipped to B-movie slasher territory.

@splatterpunk....

Wow that's odd.. I see it when a movie is outstanding (especially action films)...Mad Max Fury Road comes to mind...

People don't change, but movies do.

Splatterpunk, I been in movies that many people clapped at the end; such as Transformers and The Force Awakens; even the end of Rogue One when Princess Leia appeared.  What country are you from?  Asia?  I remember watching a movie in the states and people were laughing and clapping and then I head to Japan and watch the same movie there and the audience was numb.  lol

Back in the day they actually stood up and cheered at the end of JAWS;) I was there and saw it as a sneak preview where no one knew what was coming!

Not so much anymore. At least I've never seen it ever.

@colonial soldier I'm in USA and I'm telling you I've never seen a movie where people cheered lol. Transformers? Are you serious dude?

Starwars? Those are all kids movies.

Yes, Transformers.  The first one.  I am active duty Army and I saw it on the base in Germany.  I am from New York City and go to a movie in the Bronx or Brooklyn and the audience is just as fun as the movie.  lol

Transformers, lol. If you like it that's cool. Not my cup of tea though. I'm a horror guy to be honest. Covenant satisfied my horror fix. It wasn't scary though but then again I haven't been scared by a movie since I was five, lol.

Jaws was the first movie to scare me.  Aliens, Scanners, The Beast Within and I enjoyed the slasher films in the 80s.  Covenant didn't scare me at all and I thought the kills were gratuitous.

I agree it wasn't scary. I liked the blood I kind of wish it was more. However, it was bloody enough. I did jump once though. When David messed up Walter when he bent him into a pretzel. That part was nasty. However, in horror movies I watch the body break is always nasty as long as you don't see it coming.

With that said a lot of people reacted to the gore out loud which I loved. I'm a gore hound though. The woman I was with kept screeching lol.

Yes people clap at the end of movies when they are good and they enjoyed them, I have many times. Where do you live in Idaho? Nobody will clap at the end of this movie cause it is disappointing as can be and has proved the fact that Sir Ridley needs to stop making movies, the evil robot who created all these xeno-proto-neomorphs, give me a break. The fact that David is gonna be responsible for all this shit, including the beloved xeno from ALIEN, is stupid and dumb. No more Alien universe please
