MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 6:16 PMSo I just got out of seeing Alien: Covenant; and I have to say I really enjoyed it, not the best alien movie but still really good, I will put my spoiler reaction up tomorrow.
Look upon my works, you mighty, and despair

MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 6:52 PMI liked it. Can't really post much now because of spoilers. Don't want to ruin it although the trailers showed too much anyway. I will say I thought the ending was good.

MemberOvomorphMay-18-2017 7:32 PMWas really let down.
Certain sequences were amazing, but for the most part many things we've seen before and in the case of one in particular, done far better.
SPOILERS:
----------------------
After a blistering opening sequence, I was prepared for great things. Then I felt like Ridley forgot what movie he was making as the film became literally run aground on David's planet. I thought it was never going to end. The little flute/recorder sequence was bewildering in it's length, did anyone from the movie company actually see this sequence and not suggest it be cut down? Lord my eyes were closing.
By the time you were back on the ship, there was hardly any time left in the film, and let me just predict here and now that this film will tank after an ending like this.
ARRGH.

splatterpunk
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 7:38 PMThe flute scene was important because it showed David was a bad model and hence how he acts like he does and also clears up some of the why he did what he did in Prometheus. He's a psycho android.

oceantracks
MemberOvomorphMay-18-2017 7:43 PMWe know why it was important. It could have been done in literally half the time. Nobody cared. The audience was noticeably restless where I saw it tonight throughout the whole sequence.

MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 7:43 PM@Oceantracks. I agree with you. When the movie was over; the theater was simply quiet. I heard some people laughing. My kid liked it though lol.

oceantracks
MemberOvomorphMay-18-2017 7:44 PMYes the theater was dead quiet here too.
I remember the resounding applause back in the 80s when ALIENS ended...;)

splatterpunk
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 7:47 PMThe theater I went to was full of people saying ewww and the people were happy leaving. I've actually never been in a theater where people weren't silent. People still clap after movies, man that is so tacky. Since I've been an adult and gone to movies I've never heard people clap ever, lol.

colonialsoldier
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 7:50 PMSame here OceanTracks. I saw the original Alien when I was 13 and everyone was screaming and jumping; same with Aliens. Sadly, this movie didn't create the same effect. Alien was a B-movie that was upgraded to A status and this was an A-movie production and budget wise and slipped to B-movie slasher territory.

MemberOvomorphMay-18-2017 7:52 PM@splatterpunk....
Wow that's odd.. I see it when a movie is outstanding (especially action films)...Mad Max Fury Road comes to mind...
People don't change, but movies do.

colonialsoldier
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 7:53 PMSplatterpunk, I been in movies that many people clapped at the end; such as Transformers and The Force Awakens; even the end of Rogue One when Princess Leia appeared. What country are you from? Asia? I remember watching a movie in the states and people were laughing and clapping and then I head to Japan and watch the same movie there and the audience was numb. lol

MemberOvomorphMay-18-2017 7:59 PMBack in the day they actually stood up and cheered at the end of JAWS;) I was there and saw it as a sneak preview where no one knew what was coming!

splatterpunk
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 8:05 PMNot so much anymore. At least I've never seen it ever.

splatterpunk
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 8:06 PM@colonial soldier I'm in USA and I'm telling you I've never seen a movie where people cheered lol. Transformers? Are you serious dude?
Starwars? Those are all kids movies.

colonialsoldier
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 8:08 PMYes, Transformers. The first one. I am active duty Army and I saw it on the base in Germany. I am from New York City and go to a movie in the Bronx or Brooklyn and the audience is just as fun as the movie. lol

colonialsoldier
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 8:10 PMhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg3W8C_2YP8 audience at the end clapping.

splatterpunk
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 8:11 PMTransformers, lol. If you like it that's cool. Not my cup of tea though. I'm a horror guy to be honest. Covenant satisfied my horror fix. It wasn't scary though but then again I haven't been scared by a movie since I was five, lol.

colonialsoldier
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 8:14 PMJaws was the first movie to scare me. Aliens, Scanners, The Beast Within and I enjoyed the slasher films in the 80s. Covenant didn't scare me at all and I thought the kills were gratuitous.

splatterpunk
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 8:18 PMI agree it wasn't scary. I liked the blood I kind of wish it was more. However, it was bloody enough. I did jump once though. When David messed up Walter when he bent him into a pretzel. That part was nasty. However, in horror movies I watch the body break is always nasty as long as you don't see it coming.
With that said a lot of people reacted to the gore out loud which I loved. I'm a gore hound though. The woman I was with kept screeching lol.

MemberChestbursterMay-18-2017 9:40 PMYes people clap at the end of movies when they are good and they enjoyed them, I have many times. Where do you live in Idaho? Nobody will clap at the end of this movie cause it is disappointing as can be and has proved the fact that Sir Ridley needs to stop making movies, the evil robot who created all these xeno-proto-neomorphs, give me a break. The fact that David is gonna be responsible for all this shit, including the beloved xeno from ALIEN, is stupid and dumb. No more Alien universe please

Dr. Curt Connors
MemberChestbursterMay-18-2017 9:43 PMAnd Star Wars is amazing, kids movies, what are you talking about. The prequels maybe, not the originals. Don't diss the Wars or the first Transformers, the other ones aren't good and I stopped watching after the third one. The first one is awesome. Go watch Alien: Covenant again and leave the good stuff to us.

MemberOvomorphMay-18-2017 9:53 PMJust came back from watching two sceenings back to back.
Without doubt the monster in this film is David. The alien is his creation, his lackey, his servant. Like Peter Weyland treated David. I believe this film is far more intriguing and thoughtful than Alien. If RS wanted to scare the pants off yo he would have made another Alien. RS has evolved David from creation to servant to God and creator.
Man makes android.
Android figures out he is superior to man.
Android creates monster.
monster kills man.
David replaces man.
David see himself as the God. He plans to usurp man. Like the Neanderthal over the ape.
Today I have been dedicated to post on as many topics as possible until I pass out from drinking too many beers.

splatterpunk
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 9:59 PM@dr conners keep watching those kids movies lmfao. Clappings lol. I'd rather just enjoy the movie and rewatch it. God man you sound really square lol. Let's everybody clap like they do at crapplebees when it's your birthday. Omg this is rich. Lmfao.
the fact that you watched transformers and thought it good let alone can even say you watched the other ones is laughable. Unless you are taking your kid to see it and have to sit through it. Lol.

MemberChestbursterMay-18-2017 10:11 PM@splatterpunk hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

Dr. Curt Connors
MemberChestbursterMay-18-2017 10:13 PMPlease dude, go watch severed heads in water and call it art. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

splatterpunk
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 10:14 PM@dr I guess you'll be in line to see transformers lmfao. Now that's funny.
Gore is a means of expression and honestly I don't think you should be the judge of what art is. You watch transformers. Ahahahahahahahahaha.

Dr. Curt Connors
MemberChestbursterMay-18-2017 10:24 PMI said I stopped watching them after the third one. I thought that was clear, haha. Read all words in comments.

splatterpunk
MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 10:27 PM@stopped after the third? How many are there lol? It's okay if you like them. I like comic book movies so that's my stupid popcorn stuff.

Dr. Curt Connors
MemberChestbursterMay-18-2017 10:31 PMI like comic book movies too, The Dark Knight Trilogy are my favorite movies of all time. This new one is the 5th one unfortunately, yes they need to stop making them and sorry for getting a little crazy. It's late/early where I am. I'm just disappointed and this is about the only place to unleash it.
