Alien: Covenant was amazing

MemberFacehuggerMay-18-2017 6:51 PMJust saw Alien: Covenant tonight and loved it. Aside from two people talking next to me who eventually were quiet still the movie was a great sequel to Prometheus. The acting was great and the story was great too. I really loved Michael Fassbender's roles. He did a great job. He's a wonderful actor. I thought they paid enough homage to Prometheus too. I'm really looking forward to the next film in the series and hoping Ridley Scott makes it soon after so hopefully big box office numbers for this film. The score was superb too. Katherine Waterston was really good as was Danny McBride. The whole movie felt real and believable. It was definitely a step up from Prometheus which is one of my all time favorites. I'm probably going to see it again at some point soon. Thought I'd just share my two cents. For anyone who hasn't seen it yet prepare to be blown away. Ridley Scott never fails to really bring these movies to really high levels of perfection..

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 11:29 AM@nofacewilly - You are going to have your proponents and opponents of the film. I am going to be very honest about my disappointment on the film and why the series has not gotten better since Aliens. Even though you have fans that love Prometheus on this board; I think that movie was trash as well. It was lucky to make the money that it did.

MemberChestbursterMay-19-2017 11:54 AMThank you @colonialsoldier and perfectly said. @nofacewilly I am expressing my disgust for something that I am passionate about and feel that I wasted all this time expecting this movie too be good and time I put in caring about it was all for nothing and don't get me started about Poopmetheus. This site is about people's opinions, this is mine.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 1:05 PM@japes, agree on the fight scene. Androids fighting would know to damage the eyes emediately.
And what was so damn flammable it that cryo chamber? Were they pumping pure oxygen into it??? Great design. Silly nonsense.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 2:03 PMPrometheus was better. Sorry not sorry. Better more memorable individualistic characters who you actually gave a crap about unlike the James Franco we never got to know. Who cares if he burned. Not gonna rehash again why I love Prometheus so much more, but I did. Alien Covenant shouldn't have had that many crew members? 15???!!! How many did Alien have? Like 7? These AC crew members were just food for the aliens, I forgot about half of them within 5 seconds.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched Androids blow and finger each other's flutes.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 2:07 PMMaybe it should have been called Alien: Convenient, as in ultra convenient that a colonization ship arrived and convenient that David's little embryos where ready and the perfect size for the deep freezer. LOL. I did like Daniels and T as characters though.

MemberChestbursterMay-19-2017 2:16 PMYeah it's just bad writing, directing, everything

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 2:27 PMThe more I think about it the more I think I hated Alien Covenant. I know I said earlier I didn't. Lol

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 2:33 PM@spear it's called a movie. Don't be ridiculous. Have you even noticed in super great movies if something wouldn't have happened there would be no movie. In alien if they didn't go to the beacon there is no movie.
Dont be ridiculous. In starwars if Luke wouldn't have chased r2 he would of been dead. You are being ridiculous along with many other closed minded people. Hip to be edgy right?

MemberChestbursterMay-19-2017 2:35 PMYeah it's not total shit like Prometheus is in my opinion, take that oneeyedwilly, I know that's not his name. Covenant is just very poopy. Like you didn't totally shit your pants but had a really bad shart.

MemberPraetorianMay-19-2017 2:43 PMI loved it,..it gives us plenty to chew on. it was intellectual, horrifying and nostalgic to both alien and prometheus. Ridley did his thing and will hit us again with another strong shot. I Literally just got back home from my 2nd watching today.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 2:46 PM@Splatterpunk - That was actually an attempt at humor. But obviously it was lost on you. Maybe my humor is rediculous? :-). Either way, add 20-30 minutes to the movie and do away with the cheap shortcuts. That's my opinion, and you know what they say about those.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 2:49 PM@spear sometimes humor doesn't come across in print especially if it's not funny, haha. Anyway, how long was the movie anyway. When I watched it time flew by. I'm hoping there is a directors cut with more content. Can always hope.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 3:00 PMMy observation is that Prometheus was teed up as a deep (intellectual) movie that could have been executed better. Whereas Covenant is a slasher film. I didn't find it very deep other than why David killed (presumably) Shaw if he loved her? Watched it at 2pm today, so it was better than being at work, but I would rather see the movie this forum would derive.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 3:58 PMScott needs to take his skirt off as well. If the fx crew boasts in an interview the movie is so gory than carry through because it wasn't. It was okay in that area. Missed opportunity and they could of done the gore stylistically. Wimps.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 4:06 PMI don't think we need gore. We need answers and a complex story line. This is a movie that would be a terrible book. I want a book transformed into a movie.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 4:10 PM@spear the only reason I even bring it up is because of the interview the fx crew gave. They boasted and bragged but fell short. That's why I bring it up. If you are going to tease and it was a tease then follow through. I've never expected the franchise to be a heavy gore genre but if you go about boasting and exaggerating in an interview then you get people like me who are like okay, show me. I was going to the movie regardless but because of that interview I was expecting more. They said a woman was totally covered in blood and they used so much. They exaggerated a bit:)

MemberPraetorianMay-19-2017 4:17 PMThe flute scene was dope... enguiniety, philosophy, and androids one on one discussing thru a simple wooden instrument. It had subtle cerebral symbolism demonstrating David's high intelligence, Like a "Symphony composer", but with living things. The puns were great, (the kissing scene) to me was clever...echoing back to Batty kissing his maker Tyrell. (kiss of death), The notion of loving/hating one's self.
I loved the balance of gore and wit!
Theres more films coming...
we are just looking at the end handle of a big umbrella!
but hey, thats JMO

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 4:36 PMNot sure. This has been a downward spiral since 1979, much like myself LOL. I personally like movies that make me question my preconceived notions, like Ex Machina. Blow me up for that, but that film left many disturbing questions about her intentions (her?) and if the guy lived. Things I thought about for months after seeing the film. It was smart. I don't have these lingering questions with convent - other than those carried over from Prometheus.

MemberDeaconMay-19-2017 5:57 PMI was 50/50 with the movie.... disappointed with some parts but i understand why they did it, just shame some of it was inconsistent and not done as well as could have been... talking everything related to Shaw, Engineers, Paradise etc etc...
We have the ADF Novel to give us some insight and hopefully we can see some history of the Engineers and their Bio-weapons and Agenda in future.
There are other flaws and Plot Holes, but its each to their own.
I gave it a 6/10 but in reality some of it is a Good Movie, some Disappointing and odd Poor parts but most of the rest average.
From the Start to when David came along it was Good... after that it was a bit of a disappointment for some things but they had to be done that way due to the running time of the movie... now if it was a 2hr 45min movie then no doubt some parts could have been given more justice... also a Budget Increase...
Considering the Budget i dont think its bad, but then its a shame to ask what another say 30 min worth of Screen time for extra/expanded Plot..... plus add the obviously cut down scenes.
And maybe extra 3-4 Months Production and $50M Budget would have gave us.

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 6:16 PMI just finished watching Alien3 - The Assembly Cut and its way better than the theatrical version and way better than Prometheus and Covenant.
