Sorry Ripley...

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 2:45 PMJust back from my second viewing, but this time went to see it in IMAX... Holy sh*t, that was intense! I'm calling it: this is the best Alien-movie ever! Although I love Ripley and have fond memories of the original film, Covenant outdoes it in every single way! I'm so glad Ridley came to his senses and ditched the whole engineer-theme for now. Man, this movie totally kicks ass! It made me feel so humble and fragile as a human being...I'm lost for words to be honest. In all fairness, this movie deserves a lot better than what some us give it credit for. Can't wait for the sequel! Go for it Ridley! You ROCK!

MemberChestbursterMay-19-2017 6:47 PM@colonialsoldier Awesome, thanks, I will give it a read

MemberFacehuggerMay-19-2017 8:47 PM@colionol, Dr, the guy name nobody likes good old roger eigbert gave covenant a great review. Four stars, dazzling, third best alien film, etc. could be higher after all the repeated views.
Last time I checked he has been reviewing films for a very long time. It's worth a read. Oh but that doesn't fit your negative agenda. Carry on...

MemberChestbursterMay-19-2017 9:08 PM@splatter Our negative agenda, good stuff. I love the carry on too. I don't know who Roger Eigbert is, I remember Roger Ebert but he passed away some time ago.

Just to give you an idea of how much this franchise means to me: I was about 4 or 5 years old when I first saw Alien 3. My dad had rented the VHS and since I was a real dinosaur fan at the time (still am by the way) and there was a monster in it, I nagged his ears off so I could watch it...
I...will...never...forget that scene where the guy gets mauled by the fan. I still remember I was hiding behind the couch at the time and it's been 25 years ago. It's one of my first memories. When the alien walks up to Ripley and it's secondary jaw came out, I eventually had to stop watching. Result: I couldn't sleep for weeks.
I was the kid that looked away from any toys that were in the shops, and I didn't dare to see any of the movies untill I was at the age of 12. I have an awesome collection of Jurassic Park and although Alien means more to me, I haven't got too many collectibles and such because I'm still having difficulty looking at them. These movies sort of made me the man I am today.
Do you still think you shouldn't take my oppinion into account? What's your story by the way?

MemberFacehuggerMay-20-2017 7:12 AM@Snake thanks for sharing.
My story? Hmmm....I first saw Aliens and I have no idea how old I was, but probably too young. Sometime soon after it's release on VHS I suspect (or maybe a few years later). Then years later I sought out Alien (maybe caught it on TV). Can't remember how I saw Alien 3. Saw Alien Resurrection at the theater, and maybe the first AvP too, not sure. Saw the second AvP on TV. Went to theater to see Prometheus (my favorite "Alien" movie besides Alien) which I absolutely love, saw AC at the theater yesterday which frustrated and disappointed me immensely. I enjoyed Alien 3 more than AC and can see myself watching it again before I would watch AC.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched Androids blow and finger each other's flutes.

MemberFacehuggerMay-20-2017 8:59 AMlol @splatterpunk. Roger Ebert is dead. His website still lingers and that review was written by Matt Zoller Seitz I grew up watching up Ebert and Siskel when they had their review show At the Movies and Sneak Previews on PBS back in the 70s and 80s.
First of all, let me tell you guys this. I do not care if you are upset because I do not like the Covenant movie. I saw the movie Alien and the rest in the movies in the theater since I was a kid and now in my 50s. Trust me, I had the books, novelizations and all the VHS tapes and movies. I even use to watch the original Alien movie on stolen fuzzy HBO (before cable boomed) in the early 80s in New York City.
I am a fan but I am not going to lie on something that sucked in quality. I am the same when it came to the Star Wars prequels that sucked and gladly they have made a solid comeback. I foresee the same with the Alien franchise.

MemberFacehuggerMay-20-2017 9:01 AM@phallic jaw, I saw Alien3-the Assembly cut last night; and its a vast improvement over the theatrical version and blows covenant and prometheus out the water.

MemberChestbursterMay-20-2017 9:04 AM@colonialsoldier Yeah man, definitely. The Wars is back and strong

MemberChestbursterMay-20-2017 9:23 AM@ColonialSoldier Where can get/watch the Assembly Cut, assuming it's free?

Thanks to all of you "POSITIVE" thinkers for keeping us excited until we can see the movie for ourselves. Heck, you'd think some film school reject tried to make an "Alien" movie with a $200 USD budget if you read half the reviews on here. Ridiculous.

MemberFacehuggerMay-20-2017 6:24 PMLol. My mommy and daddy gave me my name, platterspunk. I can't imagine how you got yours. A piece of advice: try to play the ball, not the man. It's considered good sportsmanship. For the record, I hated (and still hate) Prometheus. I don't deny this film was much better than that, but it ain't the bestest, nicest film that your heart has regrettably grown fond of.

MemberFacehuggerMay-20-2017 6:28 PM@colonialsoldier, @Dr Curt Connors,
Yeah we'll keep trying to ask questions to the "converted", and you never know, an intelligent debate might just break out.
Snake
MemberFacehuggerMay-20-2017 6:29 PMYeah I know, I'm sorry if I come across as arrogant or all-knowing, I'm not like that at all in real life...but when it comes to debating these films...
Dr. Curt Connors
MemberChestbursterMay-20-2017 6:57 PM@Stan Winston Yeah man that would be something. Just to let you know and you might read this on another thread, I told some people I have got to know on here the last couple days that I am out of here for awhile. Things look like they might get messy and I don't want to get banned. Met some cool people on here. And if I don't comment back it's just cause I'm not on and taking a break. Peace Out, keep up the good work.

MemberFacehuggerMay-21-2017 10:15 AMI'm with you, Snake. If you fancy a bit of amusement, check the comments on IMDB. Some fool has posted a list of 36 'flaws'. He's entirely wrong about every single point. You really don't have to think very hard to rubbish each and every one of his complaints. For this reason, it's baffling to me that his posting got so many votes.

MemberFacehuggerMay-21-2017 10:21 AM@Tiwaz, I downloaded the Assembly Cut from a torrent site.
@Dr Connors, do not leave man. I respect other opinions on the movie, regardless it conflicts with mine. I do not think this board was created for only a-kissing the covenant movie but to talk about its flaws as well.
Phallic Jaw
MemberFacehuggerMay-21-2017 10:27 AMyeah, let's definitely not "kiss the covenant movie", I think we all had enough of kissing in that movie (yeah, I realize that sounds homophobic, but it's not).
