Sorry Ripley...

MemberFacehuggerMay 19, 2017Just back from my second viewing, but this time went to see it in IMAX... Holy sh*t, that was intense! I'm calling it: this is the best Alien-movie ever! Although I love Ripley and have fond memories of the original film, Covenant outdoes it in every single way! I'm so glad Ridley came to his senses and ditched the whole engineer-theme for now. Man, this movie totally kicks ass! It made me feel so humble and fragile as a human being...I'm lost for words to be honest. In all fairness, this movie deserves a lot better than what some us give it credit for. Can't wait for the sequel! Go for it Ridley! You ROCK!
lol @Dr Conners. Yes, they saw a different movie than we did. Hopefully, they can continue with their multiple viewings at the box office in IMAX and make Covenant a huge financial success lol.
Fool me once......actually Ridley has gotten me more than once lol. Good thing I never saw the movie Prometheus in the theater since I was in Afghanistan in 2012.
I think the viewers who are posting on IMDB saw the same movie as Dr and I did.
Also big Dave this takes place in the future. Alien is not 2001. It never claimed to be. I have come to the conclusion that many people do not have an imagination or people just need everything spoon fed to them. They can't grasp and remember it's a movie. They can't suspend their disbelief which is a sure sign of a closed mind.
Sigh, so many cinics...
@colonialsoldier Haha, yeah he's fooled me more than once too. He has made some great movies, I just don't know but for whatever reason he has gone cuckoo. I saw Poopmetheus in the theater with my brother, we were both like what the f#%k. I am curious what is it's IMDB score? And yeah keep going like they all did for Prometheus and give it good box office, good one. Afghanistan huh? I have heard most soldiers don't wanna be thanked for their service but I will tell you thanks man.
I don't think a serious conversation can be had with anybody who thinks AC is the best Alien movie, so I am not going to have one. Absolutely RIDICULOUS. It's not even the second best Alien movie.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched Androids blow and finger each other's flutes.
@Dr. Thank you. Yes, I am still in the Army. I actually served in the Marines a long time ago; but my screen name is based on being a soldier now. Also, that actor as my avatar was the original Hicks (James Remar from the movie The Warriors) before being replaced. There are actually some scenes in Aliens in which he is in but his back is shown.
Frankly, Ripley's time has been long over with. This universe isn't about Ripley, it's not even about the critters.
It's about Humanity reaching out, striding into the silent darkness between the stars and finding Big Things that challenge humanity's assumptions of it's place in the universe.
It's about darkness, terror, horrific new aspects of non-terrestrial biology and humanity learning that all of it's Big Qiestions might have answers that humanity doesn't like.
IN SPACE THERE IS NO WARNING
@colonialsoldier Cool man, you're welcome. And wow I didn't know James Remar was the original Hicks, sweet man good stuff.
@Stan Winston. Click on my IMDB link above and actually someone asked the same questions that you did.

@colionol, Dr, the guy name nobody likes good old roger eigbert gave covenant a great review. Four stars, dazzling, third best alien film, etc. could be higher after all the repeated views.
Last time I checked he has been reviewing films for a very long time. It's worth a read. Oh but that doesn't fit your negative agenda. Carry on...
@splatter Our negative agenda, good stuff. I love the carry on too. I don't know who Roger Eigbert is, I remember Roger Ebert but he passed away some time ago.
@Phallic jaw
Just to give you an idea of how much this franchise means to me: I was about 4 or 5 years old when I first saw Alien 3. My dad had rented the VHS and since I was a real dinosaur fan at the time (still am by the way) and there was a monster in it, I nagged his ears off so I could watch it...
I...will...never...forget that scene where the guy gets mauled by the fan. I still remember I was hiding behind the couch at the time and it's been 25 years ago. It's one of my first memories. When the alien walks up to Ripley and it's secondary jaw came out, I eventually had to stop watching. Result: I couldn't sleep for weeks.
I was the kid that looked away from any toys that were in the shops, and I didn't dare to see any of the movies untill I was at the age of 12. I have an awesome collection of Jurassic Park and although Alien means more to me, I haven't got too many collectibles and such because I'm still having difficulty looking at them. These movies sort of made me the man I am today.
Do you still think you shouldn't take my oppinion into account? What's your story by the way?
@Snake thanks for sharing.
My story? Hmmm....I first saw Aliens and I have no idea how old I was, but probably too young. Sometime soon after it's release on VHS I suspect (or maybe a few years later). Then years later I sought out Alien (maybe caught it on TV). Can't remember how I saw Alien 3. Saw Alien Resurrection at the theater, and maybe the first AvP too, not sure. Saw the second AvP on TV. Went to theater to see Prometheus (my favorite "Alien" movie besides Alien) which I absolutely love, saw AC at the theater yesterday which frustrated and disappointed me immensely. I enjoyed Alien 3 more than AC and can see myself watching it again before I would watch AC.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched Androids blow and finger each other's flutes.
lol @splatterpunk. Roger Ebert is dead. His website still lingers and that review was written by Matt Zoller Seitz I grew up watching up Ebert and Siskel when they had their review show At the Movies and Sneak Previews on PBS back in the 70s and 80s.
First of all, let me tell you guys this. I do not care if you are upset because I do not like the Covenant movie. I saw the movie Alien and the rest in the movies in the theater since I was a kid and now in my 50s. Trust me, I had the books, novelizations and all the VHS tapes and movies. I even use to watch the original Alien movie on stolen fuzzy HBO (before cable boomed) in the early 80s in New York City.
I am a fan but I am not going to lie on something that sucked in quality. I am the same when it came to the Star Wars prequels that sucked and gladly they have made a solid comeback. I foresee the same with the Alien franchise.
@phallic jaw, I saw Alien3-the Assembly cut last night; and its a vast improvement over the theatrical version and blows covenant and prometheus out the water.
