No Deleted Scenes, Says Ridley Scott

Ridley Scott has implied in an interview that the estimated extra 20 minutes of footage from the rough print are just leftovers from trimmed sequences already included in the film, rather than original content. This most likely means no director's cut.

That is BS. Even if there are 10 useable minutes of the 20 minutes that were chopped, do it anyway. He said he didn't like the egg morph scene because it ruined the pacing. I disagree. I enjoyed that scene and didn't think it messed with the pacing. I have read that he doesn't like doing director's cuts. Deleted scenes don't reaaly count for much since you have to toggle back and forth between menus for continuity. Whatever. I guess I will just get the blue ray and be done with it.

dk I disagree, I didn't care for the egg morphing. It's a cheesy moment in an otherwise elegant film.

We'll see what FOX says, they make the final call about such things, and if it means $$$ you can be assured there'll be a Director's Cut.

I wish to be include on blu-ray disk: Last Supper, The Crossing* as prologue for film, and other official trailers witch include non-film footage. Also be pretty and very nice as added before film, just watch "all within" thing some...

If it in just theatrical cut or extra stupid things (like Prometheus' Weyland shits etc.) will be so weird.

* maybe include in "Alien: Awakening"

With some careful edit work, the eggmorphing scene works very well between where Ripley discovers the fate of Parker and Lambert and where she sets the self-destruct.
Not Perfectly as we have only what we have to work with material-wise, but if it'd been done that way originally, it works.

I watched the Alien DC not long ago and RS basically said he liked the theatrical cut but did it anyway. That deleted scene may have screwed JC's queen idea if it was included. I suppose we will be at a stalemate on this issue.

I was surprised to hear the opening scene with Weyland and David was meant to be a web only promotional short, according to Ridley Scott.

@joylitt

Indeed; in the film, the sequence perfectly sets up the context and overall mood!

Sparkz Yes, I would expect all that stuff too.

Scott: I always come out at almost 2:23 first cut, look at it, and go “I’ve got to get to two hours”.

Ah- so it seems to be more about time than content. A lot can happen in twenty minutes, Sir RS. Just do it please!

Well maybe we will get to see this part after all

Very disappointing.  I loved AC but do feel like it was a mistake leaving out at least the last Prologue (Crossing) and allowing for some development of the characters as provided by the Last Supper and even little viral videos.

I don't understand why James Franco is in this film?! Is this just a 'always wanted to be in a Alien film' kinda thing? Did he do it for free, just as a cool weekend outing?

Was he filming something on the soundstage  next to AC and he stuck his head in the door?

?

The Franco thing doesn't bother me. I look at it as just a cameo. It's not really a big deal at this point. He was in a few scenes no biggie.

No deleted scenes, I'm not buying it. Ridley always covers himself with multiple cameras, giving a different viewpoint.

Some You Tubers have already uploaded scenes which are not in the final film.

The Protomorph speeding along the red lit corridor.

Daniels searching for the Protomorph, and MUTHUR tells her it's above her.

Daniels on the Covenant searching frantically for more bullets.

Remember that screenshot of Oram, looking terrified by the gate?

Surely there was more conversation amongst the crew about who the petrified beings were and what happened to them?

Plus Ridley will have shot many scenes which will have either been cut down or not used. I bet that the bombing scene was longer and showed more of the Engineers too. David's lab and specimens too, has to be more footage of that.

There's no way Noomi spent two weeks on set just for "The Crossing" as shown either!

The Blu-ray extras will prove me right...hopefully :)

@lone once again, you are the wise one here. There WILL be a directors release and there WILL be many deleted scenes on the dvds.

Lone Most of the scenes you mention are either from the promotional shorts we are already familiar with, or trimmings from already existing scenes. By deleted scenes justifying a director's cut the article means complete scenes like Vickers and Janek having a conversation in Prometheus for instance.

I believe most of the shorts like The last Supper and the crew's recorded messages were produced when they realized that the characters were so undeveloped in the movie. Most of them barely have a line or two.

@DC, Ridley said the DC of Alien slowed the movie down at the end when she sees Dallas and Kane cocooned.  He said he removed it because he did not want to change the pace of the ending.

colonialsoldier Correct although it didn't ruin the pacing for me. I am glad there are two versions though and hope for the same treatment this go around.
