Anyone ever been to the H.R. Giger Museum Bar?

MemberChestbursterJune 14, 2017Just discovered this was a thing yesterday. Anyone ever been?
QUEENELIZABETHSHAW - That is an incredibly fantastic establishment! I have never had the pleasure of visiting it - but I would very much like to do so! The overall appearance speaks quite clearly to the owner's love for Giger's work. It is quite elegant - and eerie! Thank you so very much for taking the time to share this with us! :)
Yes! We went there (my wife and my two kids) in Gruyere in 2005. At that time, I wasn't really thinking much about Alien anymore, and I really didn't realize Giger was there when our Dutch tour guide dropped us off to see the the glorious church there, and that our kids my be alarmed by the "freaky bar" along the street during our trip up to it.
Well, Mr. Giger was in the street, and we got to meet him and also get some very fuzzy pics (which I will try to post when I locate them!) and we got to enter the bar and see everything. Just an AMAZING place. Would recommend both the museum and the bar to any Giger fan, for sure! There's nothing like it.
I have, went with my father while in Switzerland almost 10 years ago. It was amazing, something i'll never forget. Those Harkonnen chairs are huge!
Wat
@Something Real; It's actually not that big once you get inside. Where the bar is the ceiling seems high up, but it's strange, it feels like it almost closes in on you, it's very cozy honestly but well-lit by high windows. There is a nice private cove you can sit in that's near a window and the walls have those Giger babies all over it. The decor is a nice mix of wood, metal and stone. When I went there was a statue of the Xeno on one of the exterior walls, it was really beautiful. Inside there was a torso sculpture on the wall of what looks like S.I.L. I think they switch these pieces around though because I have seen images showing that torso sculpture outside too.

LILLY - Oh! It sounds quite fantastic! Thank you ever so much for humoring my question! :)
Yeah, the pics make it look much larger (and more well lit!) than it is. BUT, those chairs are VERY large...almost like Engineer sized chairs!
Video of inside and outside the bar. Sorry its a link, wouldn't embed the video properly..

Never been... would love to though.... before it gets Refurbed into a Less Bio-Mechanical Place lol

Yes! I mean, "no". LOL
There was also one in Tokyo, Japan, but it's closed now. Apparently, some of the booths worked like elevators. If you have some bucks, you can buy some artwork/ sculptures/ fixtures from it. But, watch for fakes.
I was in this bar 5 years ago. That feeling when you sit in his chair is something. You feel like you're a space jockey. The interior is so detailed. And the atmosphere is unforgettable
I was very fortunate to live in Bern, Switzerland, almost four years up to last summer. So I visited Giger Bar and Giger Museum in Gruyeres at least ten times. Atmosphere is beautiful in both places, which are actually right opposite next to other.
All those... moments... will be lost, in time, like tears... in... rain.
This is me in the front of Giger Museum last July. Giger Bar is right behind me. :-)

laperouse dude, that's awesome thanks for the share. Must be a surreal feeling inside.
@IRaptus with pleasure. I have many pics with me and my wife seating in those magnificent Harkonnen Capo Chairs inside of the bar. It's surreal pretty much. :-) Gruyeres was close where I lived and this whole surrounding with old castle (Château St. Germain) really fits into general presentation. On the other hand I never visited other bar in Chur, at opposite side of Switzerland, where H.R. Giger was born. Still, I think this one in Gruyeres has more to offer.
