Collider says no more David in future Alien movies

MemberNeomorphJul-24-2017 7:39 PMSteve Weintraub from Collider stated in a youtube video that was reposted by AVP Galaxy, that the plans at Fox provided Covenant was a success, were to make one last prequel tying into the original Alien and then do a sort of a soft reboot with new characters where we won't have to worry about David and other themes explored in the prequels. Do you think dropping David's would be a good thing for the Alien franchise?

MemberChestbursterJul-25-2017 10:45 AMHip Hip Hooray, good riddance David. If only this were true.

AdminPraetorianJul-25-2017 11:34 AMStrange decision given David is the only redeeming part of the prequels...

MemberChestbursterJul-25-2017 12:57 PMNot sure how I feel about this. I don't like the story revolving around "David" completely, as I think there are way too many other fascinating and interesting topics that need to be explored in this vast "A L I E N" universe, but I don't necessarily want him to "go away" either. Now, I currently do NOT believe that he is the absolute Xeno creator, only a curator/experimenter, so therefore I think they absolutely could easily do stories without him.
I think when Prometheus didn't hit the audience approval marks they wanted, and when they saw the magic that Fassbender created on the big screen, they pretty much forced RS and the team to revolve the next installment around him, and that's why we got THIS version of A:C, instead of a better, more expository film. Hopefully relaxing the David story a bit will allow that to happen next go round.

MemberChestbursterJul-25-2017 1:06 PMI really hope they don't change course, again, and say David didn't breed the Xenomorph into existence. That would ruin the narrative set forth by Prometheus and now Covenant. David, he's an excellent character and antagonist and I find his story relatable. I want to watch more films in which he terrorizes people in space. I understand some found the mystery surrounding the Xeno an allure but I like this origin. The Xeno is the epitome of death and the fact he was manufactured by hate, malice, and lunacy is intriguing imo. I also want to learn more about the Engineers and I also agree that the Alien universe is so vast that focusing on one individual story can be a waste but David has so much potential and that would truly be waste.

MemberChestbursterJul-25-2017 1:26 PM@Lawrence I certainly understand your point of view on this.

MemberPraetorianJul-25-2017 2:40 PMI hope the Engineers are going to return with a vengeance in Awakening. They are surely going to be upset about the annihilation of their people, and the bastardisation of their tech

MemberChestbursterJul-25-2017 3:05 PMIRaptus I hope this as well. I want to know more about them, Ridley keeps teasing us! Though, I want to see them fall prey to David's machinations as well.

MemberPraetorianJul-25-2017 3:13 PMHopefully Covenant is setting the pieces for a climatic third film. Something huge and epic. Perhaps the engineers follow the Covenant to Origae-6 in pursuit of David. big conflict between engineers and humans + david. Total chaos and destruction of the planet.

MemberOvomorphJul-26-2017 12:23 PMI think having Ripley in the Alien series was a bad idea. Instead of making the alien itself the star it was about her, which really limited the series. Kind of like Underworld but that is a whole other topic. In the prequels David is learning and creating which makes this story line so much better.

MemberChestbursterJul-26-2017 12:41 PMTechnically you were out of the franchise after Aliens Jonesy.
dk
MemberTrilobiteJul-26-2017 3:30 PMJonesy Maybe it is for the best. David may have seen Jonesy as just another organism for experimentation.
Jonesy
MemberFacehuggerJul-26-2017 9:33 PMhaha, but it maybe a good thing that I actually turns out to me David's creation to monitor the Nostromo's crew. I am the one who wakes them up out of hypersleep.

MemberNeomorphJul-26-2017 11:43 PMit may not be a bad idea to take a break from david. I agree that fassbender has been the biggest success so far in the series but if we see too much of him it could spoil things. this may even be the reason the engineers have been held back. if we see less of david in awakening then wel want to see him even more in the following instalment.

MemberOvomorphJul-27-2017 4:38 AMI hope that David will be back for at least one more movie. In fact i would like to have him been wiped out by either engineers or more likely by its own precious Xenomorph in a very humiliating way.

MemberNeomorphJul-27-2017 5:01 AMIm just guessing but I think david will be there till the end. I still think he will make an attempt towards redemption and that will lead to his death. for me id like to see him survive the whole series and we last see him blasting off into the dark.

MemberNeomorphJul-27-2017 11:56 AMThey could keep David but give him less of a role, I would like that. Their focus on AI is too much and not as interesting as Ridley seems to think that it should be.
Keep the focus on humans and build relatable human characters. They need to be different from one another and they must have distinct human characters and not be archetypes (that is they must have more than two traits).

Precisely this.
