Q: As a fan, what did you enjoy about this particular film?
MF: I think that what is engaging about Alien: Covenant is that it has these philosophical themes that were introduced in Prometheus.
This idea of creation and where we come from, is there a heaven for us afterwards, this idea that some people are religious and some people are scientists. Where’s the truth? Then you’ve got all of the elements of the original Alien film, which are the scare elements, the horror elements and the thriller elements. They are all very much alive in this film and they may not have been there quite so much in Prometheus. We have a return to that world and we return to that creature.
Sci-fi is a popular genre. What’s out in space? What is the final frontier? Are there other life forms out there or other planets that we can exist in as we burn this one out? Then the idea of an alien being parasitical and the fact that it incubates inside us, I think that’s a terrifying concept that really hits a nerve with people.
Q: There’s a prototype to the main alien in this film and your character gets to stand face-to-face with it at some point. What was that like?
MF: What we get to see in this film is that there was the birth of the alien that we all know and love from the film, where it came from and where it was hybridized from.
