Pym of Nantucket
MemberOvomorphOct-28-2017 4:32 AMHey guys, I'm new here and as a huge fan of the Alien franchise (and Sci-Fi in general), I really need to discuss about the next chapter of this prequel trilogy. Now on the topic and even though the future of this sequel seems uncertain at this point, I want to discuss the possible ideas and themes for the new story and I'm thinking of three possible scenarios.
Doomed Colony
While the Covenant is traveling through space with direction towards the planet Origae-6, David uses one of his frozen Facehugger to implant an embryo of Xenomorph in the body of Tennessee. Then, the Android begins to experiment with Daniels using the Xeno DNA to create a Queen. After that, the Covenant reaches its destination, and the two thousand colonists are awakened. They eventually build the colony which ends up becoming a huge and grotesque hive (courtesy of David), something like a combination between the infested installation Hadleys Hope and Giger Art. In the end, the Engineers reach the planet Origae-6 to take revenge. They learned about this place through Android Walter. David releases his swarm of Xenomorph against the Engineers. From here we have two outcomes:
a) Only one of the Engineer manages to escape the massacre, but ends up making an emergency landing on LV-426.
b) David is the Space Jockey and his story ends in LV-426.
Engineers Catacombs
Similar to the previous one, but with a difference. During his stay in "Paradise", David managed to discover the existence of a complex of huge underground installations that the Engineers built on LV-426. Then, the Covenant reaches Acheron instead of Origae-6.
Where do we come from?
Now on the other hand, If Ridley wants to explore topics about artificial intelligence, then I want this:
David's words in Covenant: "Allow me then, a moment to consider; You seek your creator. I am looking at mine. I will serve you, yet you are Human. You will die, I will not."
David is going to create the perfect organism, and the synthetic already feels like a God. But in the end, our antagonist ends up discovering that he is not reigning in hell really. He is serving in heaven, just like humans and even the Engineers.
And just as Engineers use holograms of planets and stars in their spacecraft, perhaps there is a superior form of hologram. Something so clear, solid and credible as reality itself.
Maybe the Engineers know something. Maybe they have already been visited by omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent beings in the distant past. Their art, technology and architecture could be inspired by them. These ancient beings adopted terrifying and fascinating forms to communicate with their creations. Their motivations are totally out of the comprehension of any consciousness of the universe.
These powerful Aliens were able to create a Matrioshka brain, employing the entire energy output of a star to drive computer systems, creating an entire simulated Universe inside.
So, what do you think guys? and please, feel free to share new and better ideas for the sake of this thread.

MemberNeomorphOct-28-2017 4:30 PMWelcome to the forum. Very good topic and ideas. It is likely a sequel to Covenant would be have a scenario akin to what you describe in your point # 1. Even though I find your second and third scenarios to be much more interesting, the need of connecting to the first Alien make it more difficult to go in that direction. However, those themes can still appear in the story, which would be awesome. I think many of the ideas members of the forum have been coming up with have the the potential of providing the basis for very good movies, not necessarily connected to the Alien universe. The idea of a higher intelligence communicating with its creation through a coded language (maybe through dna design?) would be fascinating.

MemberNeomorphOct-28-2017 4:52 PMThe only problem that I see with introducing new ideas is the wasted potential we have witnessed in previous installments. It is like you introduce a character or a storyline or a theme that didn't stick with the audience in a way that you have liked, and instead of trying to fix them or to develop them, you just kill them so you don't have to deal with them in the future. That is why we don't have Elizabeth Shaw, Engineers or a quest for "where we come from". I think the new movie needs a change of angle, a re-evaluation of the David character, and further exploration of themes introduced by "Prometheus".

I'm a little concerned they don't have access to the Giger art style. Might not be able to follow through on his work.
I wonder if Weyland-Yutani had to keep ash's android identity a secret because of the fallout from David? Can't have the Nostromo crew worried about our synth....just say he's human..have him hyper sleep...eat with them....gain their trust. So maybe the Nostromo had heard of David?
Who inside the Space Jockey would be the biggest shock for everyone?
Should they even try to bridge the Space Jockey? Or just leave it as is...a thousand year old pilot.
What would be satisfying conclusion to the final prequel.....?
The death of David?
Find out who was the Space Jockey?
Giger's Biomechanical(copyright issues) coming to life/death?
Star Wars prequels felt like they flowed really well into the next episode(s). Is it possible? A smooth transition from Alien prequels to A L I E N?

MemberNeomorphOct-28-2017 6:10 PMI don't think the identity of the Space Jockey need to be shocking. The important part of it is to reveal the "why, when and how". It just cannot be David.
A satisfying conclusion of the prequels would be to finally know what is at stake for humanity in their face off with the Engineers.
If Alien Covenant was the last installment or if you strictly follow what we have learnt in AC in the last prequel, then the post Aliens movies would have very few elements to work storywise. That is why the Engineers and their mythology need to remain in the game for the sequels. And it was a mistake to declare that the "beast is cooked"; that is the same as making Dracula movies convinced that the vampire is finished.
