Now that Disney owns FOX
I.Raptus
MemberPraetorianDec-22-2017 9:32 PMIs it at all likely Disney might opt to merge/connect several of FOX franchises...and no I don't mean in an AVP type of way.
But in a more subtle and beneficial way to appeal to groups of fanbases.
For instance the Alien and Bladerunner franchises.. They need not directly overlap with each other but instead compliment each other by acknowledging they are in the same universe but focus on specific parts of the verse.
Say Bladerunner focuses on AI/Humanity/Replicant and political struggles in the 'core systems' while Alien focus on horror, exploration and xenomorph aspects out in the outer rims. Events that transpire in each film may directly or indirectly affect the other, but without the need for having have some type of Deckard and Ripley team-up cross-over.... that would be totally lame.
Or perhaps, Bladerunner and Firefly. Same deal.
Thoughts?

MemberNeomorphDec-22-2017 10:14 PMit all depends on who they keep incharge of the alien project but im hoping that they see maybe the direction the prequels are going isnt what they expected and wish to change its path and put different suits into the decision making chairs. from comments made by RS its all about David so a blade runner spin off is what wer getting. to me, the exploration of AI should be left to blade runner not alien. its hard to merge the 2 I think as theres far too many circumstances that just wouldn't add up if they were ever put in the same universe. I can see alien and predator being connected as theres no reason why WY cant know about both species.

MemberTrilobiteDec-22-2017 10:24 PMI think if those franchise share a universe it would be without the Xeno. That would be ok with me. If the Xeno story would continue, it could easily go with the Isolation story without shitting on canon.

MemberDeaconDec-23-2017 1:06 AMAs ed0guy pointed out Disney dont own Bladerunner Franchise i would like to see them not be connected but would be up for a spin off Alien Franchise movie that is similar to Bladerunner, think we need to get a Prequel to Alien and then allow Disney to assess how this has done and decide to
1) Leave the Franchise Alone
2) Do another Alien movie thats more Alieny
3) Do a movie to cover the Engineers
I think Disney wont be in no rush, and so this does mean a big problem for RS Prequel Plans, while they appeared to be on track... i would say they are now in limbo... i will add while Blomkamps Alien 5 seemed Dead in the Water i think there is a chance of its Resurrection.... i also think while 2 years ago another AVP sounded like a daft idea that wont happen... i think there is a chance a Disney AVP Reboot would be in the Cards.
Disney would look to cash in on those TWO iconic Monsters and Merchandise/Toys from both.
So going back to last year when AC Trailers had hit the screen... A sequel to AC seemed pretty much nailed on.... now, i think its in a bit of limbo.... back then a Alien 5 was dead in the water, i now think its possible we could see one down the line (5-10 years) and i think the back then a AVP seemed unlikely but i now think and especially if there is no movement on a Sequel to AC or Prequel to Alien in the next 3-4 years, then i think a AVP will be definitely on the cards... wait and see ;)

MemberDeaconDec-23-2017 1:07 AMAlso with Disney we cant rule out a COMPLETE Re-boot of the whole Franchise

MemberPraetorianDec-23-2017 1:24 AMred0guy ahh. Well that is a problem isn't it lol. I always just assumed they were from the same studio. There you go. Good catch

MemberNeomorphDec-23-2017 2:59 AMa good point BigDave made on another thread, going off topic a bit, is the age certification that will come with Disney. I doubt wel get anything rated over pg13. I feel Disney will come up with good ideas and wev seen them push the boat out with CGI and having huge expanded worlds and space scenes so Disney are willing to expand on a franchises universe. the issue is Alien is based on horror. will Disney manage to do the franchise justice with a PG13 rating? or will they push the certification for this franchise to allow RS or someone else to really go for it?

MemberDeaconDec-23-2017 6:53 AMI think looking at how they operate..... a AVP Reboot could be on the cards...
They can bring in Xenos, Predators and Engineers and also Merchandise and i think if it works they could make these more in line with the Action movies rather than any Horror at all.

Isolation has that in spades.

MemberPraetorianDec-23-2017 12:39 PMIf they did go for an AVP re-boot I would hope they steer away from the WWE style fanboy service films we got previously. There are suberb AVP scripts out there that they could use to do it justice and legitimately expand both franchises without being lame and cheesy.
1. Steve Perry's Machiko Noguchi story arc (The human Yautja).
2. Tim Lebbon's The Rage Wars trilogy.

MemberPraetorianDec-23-2017 7:50 PMred0guy agreed! I always liked the original Hunters Planet cover armour she wore.

MemberPraetorianDec-23-2017 7:55 PMHer story fits so well into both franchises. She is a flawed character weighed down by the dishonourable suicide of her father, she never really fit in with humans of the yautja young blood.
Always the outcast anti-hero

MemberTrilobiteDec-23-2017 10:03 PMSo many good stories. Hopefully they can find their way to streaming services. The so called silver screen doesn't have to be the end all and be all. Machiko could be really good with some support.

MemberChestbursterDec-24-2017 6:40 AMAgreed IRaptus. The Rage War would be epic, it also has the War of the Worlds vibe wich RS was babbling about.
Hmm, i only hope won't get more purple Paula ... ahem... Mary Sue movies... *cough*
Eine Theorie die nicht auf Etwas solidem basiert ist für gewöhnlich nur Geschwätz.

MemberPraetorianDec-24-2017 7:45 AMKnowing Disney, they would probably remove the flawed past of Machiko Noguchi and have her rebel for the sake of rebelling or be attund to being a yaut'ja without ever doing any yaut'ja training. **Cough** Rougue One **Cough** Force Awakens **Cough **

MemberFacehuggerDec-24-2017 2:45 PM@BigDave, ''I think looking at how they operate..... a AVP Reboot could be on the cards...''
exactly BigDave, i would not be surprised maybe AVP - the Musical lol!
With the backlash over the last jedi, as ali81 said above, not getting past PG13 rating looks like the norm, i hope not but.....
Anyway its christmas day here in oz, raining too, heatwave the last few days, would like to wish all staff and members at sci-fied and forums a ripper of a christmas and a happy new year!

MemberDeaconDec-25-2017 6:00 PMWell the AVP Movie Franchise had GREAT Potential as far as Fan Service and Cash Generating Cow.
There are various Games and Comics that Inspiration could have been taken from, and somewhere a decent Script could have been made, that while being a Pop-corn flick most likely, it could have worked if they stuck more to the AVP Games/Comics Universe.
Instead of the Plot/Story we got for AVP being set in the year 2004 and the whole Ancient Gods who use Mankind to Host Xenomorphs for Hunting BS Plot.
So i think there is a very good possibility of a AVP Re-boot being set in the similar Time-line of the Alien Franchise like the majority of Games/Comics

MemberPraetorianNov-21-2019 9:24 AMThe last time I checked, there were no Alien films in Disney+.
With both the Predator and Alien films going into the vault, we can only assume that...uh, well, more rumor-based updates and really neat Alien Day fluffamundo from Disney..
