C'mon Disney, what are you waiting for?

MemberXenomorphMar-21-2018 1:27 AMWhile Disney shows no interest whatsoever for a new Alien film, the Chinese step in.
"Veteran director and producer Ridley Scott is in talks with China's Zhejiang Talent Television and Film Co. to produce Amman Mission, an action-thriller based on the evacuation of Chinese nationals in 1990 during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
Titled "Goodbye, Kuwait" in Chinese, the project is in development and represented by Hong Kong-based Media Quiz at Filmart. Budgeted at $35 million, the film will be shot in the Chinese autonomous regions of Ningxia and Xinjiang, as well as in Kuwait.
Media Quiz told The Hollywood Reporter that Scott has read the first draft of the script and is awaiting a revised version. His name is on the promotion poster of the project, which also detailed how 4,885 Chinese evacuated Kuwait within 48 hours. "One motherland," it also states, recalling the Chinese patriotism in recent mega blockbusters like Wolf Warriors 2 and Operation Red Sea, which are the top two films in China's box-office history and together grossed $1.42 billion. Both movies also featured an evacuation plot, from an unnamed African nation and Yemen, respectively." MemberNeomorphMar-21-2018 1:58 AMI was under the impression Disney are interested in RS completing the prequels but its just not high on list of priorities. RS has other projects in the pipeline as alien isn't everything to him which is understandable considering the backlash from the 2 films hes done. I think theyl get to it and im quite excited to see what they come up with.

MemberTrilobiteMar-21-2018 2:00 AMInteresting. It's tough to know what RS will do with Alien anymore. Alien has never really been a big money maker so Disney might do well to enlist Bloomkamp.

MemberNeomorphMar-21-2018 2:15 AMdk, I agree. unlike their purchase of lucas film, Disney's purchase of fox is for a much broader variety of films

MemberTrilobiteMar-21-2018 2:25 AMali81 Who knows? Alien is an old franchise but not nearly as old as Star Trek. The Star Trek reboot was excellent imo. Maybe it could go in that direction. Not that I want to see a remake of Alien, but maaybe it could start with either Bloomkamp's idea or even with Amanda Ripley from Alien Isolation. The stories and characters are there but the question seems what Disney would do- they likely want a hit with a decent profit margin.

MemberNeomorphMar-21-2018 2:40 AMagree completely about the star trek reboot. I enjoyed all the films minus the last one. they can certainly go in a different direction with different characters in a different timeline and explore the expanded universe in much more detail yet keeping alive the original feel of the franchise. there r pros and cons for using Amanda ripley in a movie. some will like the attachment to the originals and some will just say why couldn't they have just brought in fresh characters but I thoroughly enjoyed alien isolation. im just an alien fan who wants to see someone come up with a good way of bringing the novels/ comic content to the big screen without damaging anything. don't just limit the alien franchise to humans and engineers on planet 4. lets go farther but keep the essence on the franchise intact. id pay to watch those movies. hell I spend money on the novels and comics and im betting most alien fans would to. alien is a profitable franchise if not in the same league as star trek or star wars but there is def a fanbase large enough to cut a decent profit. hell, AVP and AVPR managed profits.

35 years for Sir Ridmeister to return to Sci-fi.
5 years for a sequel to Prometheus.
Now waiting....for any news at all!!

MemberNeomorphMar-21-2018 5:41 AMyea, my patience wears thin esp when I see posts suggesting kingsman is in the same universe as alien as there is the same song in kingsman as there is in an alien movie.hurry the F*** up RS or move over lol

MemberNeomorphMar-28-2018 8:22 AMBoth Alien Covenant and Prometheus are underwhelming so I would rather have them waiting until they get a good story. Having said this I am not very interested in a Blomkamp movie. You are correct Lone that there were many years between Prometheus and Covenant but I think that it is common if you look at the years between other Alien movies. What is important to me is that we get a good movie where they have learned from their mistakes, rushing it won't help.

MemberFacehuggerMar-28-2018 8:32 AMNot sure what to expect with Dismay taking over. I myself have boycotted all Dismay films and products from my life after I worked there and saw the "magic". Cut throat company that does not care for the employees. Are any of you excited to see what they may have in store for us die hard fans?

MemberXenomorphMar-29-2018 2:21 AMDavefried81 I am not excited at all to see what Dismay has in store for the future of alien franchise. I am afraid they can only produce a high tech weaponized silly PG13 blockbuster, put some children and pets in it. I am afraid that if this franchise stays with Dismay, it is the end of it as we knew and loved it.
I think a lot of fans think the same and soon all the good old merchandise, films and books belonging to the franchise will sell out.
Few fanboys however will ingest everything that has xenomorphs and guns and Marvel super heroes in it, so we cannot say the franchise has no future at all, but this franchise is brain dead with Dismay.

MemberNeomorphApr-05-2018 8:52 AMDaveFried81: I doubt that Disney is unique in that way. We would not be able to watch many movies if we would boycott every big movie company, that is what I am trying to say although I defiantly see your point.
