I really do hope Disney pick up the Franchise, i think they are in for a hard time though, as the Fanbase has a very varied set of interests, where a Blomkamp Style Aliens kinda flick, wont please everyone and offer NOT much NEW, but then a RS Androids and AI Alien Covenant sequel, while offering something interesting would NOT please most fans.
So its going to take a Balancing Act, or some Brave Decisions that wont appease every fan... but i am sure we can all agree, they have to continue the Franchise ;)

MemberXenomorphJan-30-2018 10:58 PMYou're welcome, BigDave.
I hope Disney will take as soon as possible the brave decision of not following a Blomkamp style alien yet. The fanboys have plenty new shooting movies to watch each year. They can wait a little longer, Blomkamp as well.
Ridley Scott seemed eager to film the next Alien and they should allow him this one more before he starts with Merlin.

MemberDeaconJan-31-2018 1:28 AMFingers Crossed.....
It would appear they had a finished or near finished draft, if they was intending to shoot the next movie this Summer. It would appear they even had gone quite far with where they are going next as of the time of Covenants Release, i think the disappointing box office and criticism would have made them put plans on hold and rethink what went so wrong last summer.
Unfortunately with the Disney Take Over it appears the Project is on hold, indefinitely.

'Disney please give us some good news!'
I think they won't announce anything relevant until May.
At the moment they are facing the disaster caused by Ryan Johnson's The Last Jedi. The have to solve that problem first.

MemberDeaconJan-31-2018 6:39 PMI would not say The Last Jedi is a Disaster, while it was a disappointment it was a Financial Success, it did have a bit of a steep drop off though, but not as steep as the decline with Alien Covenant... i feel if Alien Covenant had made $400M+ i think FOX would have seen the movie as a Success regardless of any criticism it got.
I do however agree that Disney must be looking at the Back-Lash that The Last Jedi got, and will be trying to make sure the Last Movie in this new Trilogy learns from the things that upset so many fans with the Last Jedi.
We can only hope they also do the same when they take on a ALIEN movie.

MemberDeaconJan-31-2018 6:47 PMI think Ridley Scott will be more vocal regarding a Alien Covenant Sequel maybe when we get a interview where he covers either the Sci-Fi movie Zoe (2018) or The Terror TV Series. Maybe also if he does land the Director Role with Disneys Merlin Movie Saga.
If we have interviews from him regarding these Projects and the Alien Franchise is not mentioned then i would assume that signals a indefinite state of limbo. As time goes on i feel a Alien Day 2019 Release Date looks unlikely, but i think this was the Planned Release date.... but the movie is on Hold.
Maybe Alien Day next year we could get a Trailer if they do start a Alien movie latter this year, if not maybe Disney would use Alien Day 2019 to make a Big Announcement about another ALIEN movie?
If April 26th 2019 comes and goes with no News on another Alien movie, or any going into production by then,... and nothing is announced on Alien Day, then i think we should all get VERY concerned with the Future of the Franchise.

MemberNeomorphFeb-02-2018 12:19 PMAn android movie would be boring as hell, to be honest. I am not interested in a Blomkamp kind of movie because that would most likely be like an Aliens version two. Unfortunately AC was an android movie disguised as an Alien movie but it was mostly about David and Walter, a lot of it was boring so I do not want to support anything like that again.
"Ridley Scott seemed eager to film the next Alien and they should allow him this one more before he starts with Merlin."
Not if that means another android movie with flutery. If Scott wants to do android movies then let him do so but keep that away from the Alien franchise.
Thanks for the link to the pictures.

I think Scott Wanted to do AI on the basis that AI is a Creation, AI does not Create Itself so to speak, for the most part... meaning there has to be some non AI Element that is involved in the Creation of AI, even if this AI Evolves to create its own AI etc, Ridley Scott was touching on the Themes of Creation in General
In a Futuristic World where Evolution Can take any Shape or Form, the Results could be Dangerous, but not as Dangerous as if a INTELLIGENT Species Directly Influences and Manipulates Evolution and Genetics, as we see the Engineers can and have been... But what could be more Dangerous is if True AI, Evolves so that AI then goes about replacing every Organic Creature with Synthetic Versions that can be Manipulated and Programmed, rather than use Natural Instincts.
These are themes RS wanted to explore which he started with PROMETHEUS and hoped to carry on with Sequels and allow these Movies to STEER AWAY from the ALIEN Franchise. He was never really intending to give us a ALIEN Franchise, but something else, but Sadly PROMETHEUS did not Provide enough of a ALIEN Fix, if Prometheus had done so, so it pleased the Alien Fans more, but then SHUT the Door on that Franchise, then RS could have carried on with his plans.
But bowing down to Pressure, RS and FOX decided actually Fans need a Alien Franchise and a more Alieny Movie, but RS still wanted to explore his themes and so ALIEN COVENANT was born that just did not do enough on both parts...
Right Now, they have U-Turned to please Alien Fans..... they need to make the Xenomorph a part of the Prequels but you have to be careful if the Plans require TWO movies because another TWO Xenomorph Flicks will just not be interesting, but they also need to not overdo the Android Elements either, so thats why they are in a PICKLE at the moment.
The Engineers are interesting... but i think they need to bring in a Sinister Agenda for them, or introduce another Race Connected with a Sinister Agenda and something much more Alien than how the Ancient Engineers came off.

If you reread my comment, you can see that I wrote 'the disaster caused by Ryan Johnson's The Last Jedi.' :)
It refers to the disastrous situation the movie has created. :)
However, I think The Last Jedi is a catastrophe. 8)

MemberDeaconFeb-04-2018 7:56 AMTotally agree..... my reply was in one way to agree the movie has been a disappointment, but Financially is was not, which when this happens sometimes the Production Company will not take on board any criticism and just go by how the movie Financially did.
The same would be said if Alien Covenant made 50% more opening week and USA and then overall made 50% more so say if it Grossed over $370M then FOX would have seen that as a sign they GOT IT RIGHT
I think the Last Jedi was similar to Alien Covenant for me, there was so much potential to continue and improve upon the previous movie, but what we ended up with was most of the stuff that it set up simply being brushed under the carpet or handled in a poor way.
I saw AC the other day, 4th time now and its grown a little bit on me, i saw TLJ again (2nd viewing) and i just Face Palmed even more than the first viewing lol
I will add that i think it was RS who mentioned the other month? no sorry i think it was Mark Hamill, thats it yes.. He said it does not matter how GOOD a movie, all that matters to the companies is if it makes MONEY
Which i guess is why we can have some Good movies like BR2049 not do Financially well, yet the same Comic Book Action movies do well, such as TMNT, GOTG etc

Alright but he gave David and Walter too much time in the movie at the expense of the human characters. I still do not like that it seems like David created the Xeno. Maybe it is an interesting idea but the result this far is very bad. I do not care about the themes if I can not feel something for the characters.
"But what could be more Dangerous is if True artificial intelligence, Evolves so that AI then goes about replacing every Organic Creature with Synthetic Versions that can be Manipulated and Programmed, rather than use Natural Instincts."
I understand that idea but do not use the Alien franchise for that since it has never been about that.
Steer away from the Alien franchise, no way. One of the reasons why I watch this is because it is connected to the Alien not despite of it.
”… then RS could have carried on with his plans.”
Let him do so if that is what he wants but I would not care a bit. If that was the intent then why connect it to alien at all? Either connect it to alien or don’t but don’t be ambiguous about it.
Yes they need to have the Xeno as a part of the prequels since they have started on that track, I agree. Sure they do not need to overdo the Xenos but I do not want an android in every scene either. I would rather have many Xeno scenes in it and well done human characters than androids for 60-70 % of the movie if I would be forced to choose. My main interest is the human characters, if they get them right then I would not care if we get many Xenos or some more David scenes. Human characters first, then the rest after that – that is my list of priorities. The Engineers are more interesting than AI, that is at least the way I look at it. Give the Engineers more space and less David. To me the android thing is what I find the less interesting when I think about it, mainly became they overdid it in Alien Covenant.

But that's true, The Last Jedi is a catastrophe. 8D
I'm a little bit happier now since I've seen the two Solo trailers and I think the Star Wars - Solo movie will be awesome. Beyond doubt, Ron Howard knows how a Star Wars movie should look like.
