AdminEngineerMar-12-2024 9:35 PMWe'll use this topic to chronicle spoilers and rumors for Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus.
I'll start, the film will apparently reference a very iconic member of the first Alien movie.

AdminEngineerMar-13-2024 11:53 AMScoop / Spoiler: The original Xenomorph from Alien will be discovered by Weyland-Yutani and brought to the ROMULUS research station at the start of the film: Source [Confirmed]

AdminEngineerMar-13-2024 11:57 AMScoop / Spoiler:
The name ROMULUS is the name of the Weyland-Yutani research station in the movie. The station is said to have been abandoned for some time by the time the film takes place. The station will be investigated by a crew of six scavengers, of which Rain (played by Cailee Spaeny) is the lead. Andy (David Jonsson) is Rain’s android brother. The Romulus station is described as circular / funnel shaped and was once a bustling research facility before something happened, leaving it abandoned for years.
Alien: Romulus will introduce new forms of, more ferocious Xenomorphs / Chestbursters and Facehuggers. This coincides with our previous report where it was acknowledged that the Facehuggers in Alien: Romulus have spiked barbs on their fingers - making the act of face-hugging way more graphic and gruesome.
The society Rain and Andy come from do not like Synthetic Androids vey much and there's more to this dynamic explored in the film's plot. Aesthetically speaking, the planet they come from is described as being "industrial grit". This will be a dramatic contrast to the more pristine aesthetic of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant's ships and environments.

StaffNeomorphMar-13-2024 2:35 PMA plot based on the “leaks” so far:
-The film will start on a new planet showcasing a gritty, industrial colony where the main characters live.
-One of the characters is an android.
-The characters leave the planet and find an abandoned WY space station “Romulus”. Judging by the official photo, the design aesthetic of the space station is inspired by Alien: Isolation.
-They board the station in hopes of stealing some equipment, which turns out to be a bad idea.
-The station is swarming with Xenomorphs lurking in the dark, Facehuggers are also said to play an important role. Lots of suspense and action.
-Characters find out that WY recovered the Big Chap from Alien (1979) floating through space and brought it to the research station where they reverse-engineered its DNA, extracted the black-goo material, and used it to create their own Xenomorphs. Something happened and the station was swarmed with Xenomorphs.
Speculations:
-Characters might find some WY scientists/staff who survived.
-They might discover a hive in one part of the space station, with cocooned scientists.
-I’d be surprised if they also found the queen.

AdminEngineerMar-13-2024 3:19 PMGreat breakdown Nebula! I've got more to add when I have more time. As for the speculation - I'm not sure anyone will have survived on the ROMULUS station by the time the crew of 6 arrive - besides a slaughtered Android (maybe...)
From the sounds of it - the station has been abandoned for some time so it's unlikely any Humans survived.
The big question I haven't figured out yet - HOW do the scavengers of this gritty / poverty-stricken colony learn of this station's whereabouts? This leads me to think WY are busy planting moles and tips to eager / unsuspecting people to go investigate their lost property they're too scared to check in on themselves hahaha.

StaffNeomorphMar-15-2024 2:23 PMAccording to the audition leaks from February 2023, one of the characters named Bjorn discovers the WY station and talks to the two other characters Rain and android Andy about the discovery. Did he find it by accident, a distress signal, or is the WY company pulling strings?
Chris
AdminEngineerMar-17-2024 10:05 AMI'm willing to bet WY plant some information or encourage Bjorn to share the details with the rest of their crew. WY wouldn't house a station in easily discover-able space, they're dealing with highly classified information and resources. The only way someone is finding out about is if they want to be found, or if there's a WY whistle-blower who leaks the whereabouts of the station. But I lean more towards the former.

MemberXenomorphMar-17-2024 12:40 PMWithout knowing the date Alien:Romulus takes place...it's kind of hard to speculate.
2122-23 for recovering the BigChap? You would think they'd have sent a investigation mission after the Nostromo's demise? If not, why take so long.
Why not recover Ripley and the Narcissus? if the date is early?
"We found a specimen....what about the escape shuttle? We should at least interrogate the survivors? Or eliminate them?"
I really hope the writers did their research and at least thought about the timeline issues.

AdminEngineerMar-18-2024 12:25 PMAlien: Romulus will have a red-orange-yellow color pallet unlike the blue-green color pallet of Alien and Aliens - more so like Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, I'm told.
Dark Nebula
StaffNeomorphMar-18-2024 1:42 PMOrange-yellow color palette, like Alien 3 and Resurrection. Seems fine to me considering the film will start on a gritty industrial planet.
Humans: Let’s investigate that seemingly abandoned space station.
Xenomorphs inside:
Chris
AdminEngineerMar-18-2024 2:02 PMExactly, it will be fitting, although I was not a huge fan of the yellow-pallet used in Resurrection, so I'm hoping it's more rust-like / red and orange like in Alien 3.

StaffNeomorphMar-18-2024 2:29 PMThere will be a Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2 synthetic model featuring the likeness of the late Ian Holm.

AdminEngineerMar-19-2024 12:43 PMYep, we will see his likeness reimagined with CGI. Will be a wonderful callback to the original.
Dark Nebula
StaffNeomorphMar-19-2024 1:02 PMIf not CGI, then deepfake.
Hopefully, the VFX/CGI artists have enough time and room to breathe so that they can finish their work and not get pixel f-ed. But this doesn't seem to be the case with a lot of recent Marvel and Disney movies/TV shows.

"It's the name of their colony, just like "Hadley's Hope", JACKSON would be part of the name in this one from ALIEN: ROMULUS A heavy militarized and gritty city with a inherent hate to the synths, we'll see a lot of their lifestyle."
Poor synths.

AdminEngineerMay-03-2024 1:51 PMAlways remarkable the capacity for Human empathy towards machines throughout films but especially Alien, the fact we can have compassion for artificial life. It's like feeling bad for a toaster for being used on bagels every day lol. Foreshadowing a bizarre future where man and machine coexist and the lines become blurred even further.

MemberOvomorphMay-08-2024 5:01 PMLove all this info, keep bringing more.
Xenotaris
MemberPraetorianMay-15-2024 6:14 PMthe hatred of Synths feels a little out of place considering the timeline.
In Prometheus it was okay since Human-like Synths were relatively new, although the viral site indicated that most people where fine with the Synthetics in general.
Alien Covenant, we see a lack of Synth prejudice with Walter
Alien, the crew were more surprised that Ash was a robot then genuine hate
Aliens, everyone was fine with Bishop except for Ripley (until they became friends)
Alien 3, no Synth hatred
Alien Resurrection, I think this is the only time were we saw people genuine hated synths for well uprising against mankind (a hallmark of Joss Weadon lore, everything he writes about Robots always includes this)
PS. I hate the toaster analogy when describing a fully sapient robot. A toaster was never given intelligence nor a will to survive. The biological equivalent to the toaster analogy is someone getting upset for killing a weed. You can't compare humans to a weed just like you can't compare a thinking/feeling robot with a simple kitchen appliance.
