I wonder if this is mentioned or indicated as an easter egg in Alien Romulus.
Perhaps the Alien Romulus ship or Weyland Yutani spacecraft lacked the space travel technology necessary to directly intercept Ripley's ship. However, they may have possessed deep space listening technology to take her signals and maybe "nudge" her ship's guidance systems towards the salvage point in orbit near the space station in Aliens.
It would be cool if Alien Romulus began with a pan-out across the cosmos similar to the opening scene of Contact, with the transmission bouncing and being relayed across a chain of deep space communications network satellites until it eventually bounces off a satellite close to whoever is sending the Alien Romulus ship.
