Did you catch that short cut-scene involving a Neomorph in the Alien: Covenant trailer? It was only visible for a split-second and if you merely blinked, you probably missed it. In this first segment of Alien: Covenant Trailer Analysis, we break down this one scene in particular - focusing on our first official look at a baby Neomorph!

Our First Look at a Neomorph

Our first look at the new Neomorphs in Alien: Covenant takes place between the 1:33 and 1:35 mark in the trailer. During what's obviously an attack inside the Covenant landing shuttle, one of the crew open fire on an adolescent Neomorph. This attack leads to a massive explosion - the one which likely destroys the landing craft a few of the Covenant crew used to land on the planet's surface. Here's the sequence I'm referring to:

Notice during the second flash, a body of a small, pale-skinned Alien is partially visible on the floor? That's a baby Neomorph. Here's a close-up:

As you can see the Alien has small spikes located on its back. It also has a shorter cranium compared to the Xenomorph and Protomorph. It also seems to be perched on its back legs (could be feeding on its host's corpse in this scene).

The overall design, from what we can see looks to have been inspired greatly by this unused Prometheus Alien concept:

The adult version, might look something similar to this:

Of course, as new trailers and movie stills release, we may get a better look at this new Alien breed. But until then, this short glimpse is all we have to work with.

Neomorph birthing methods

Recent Alien: Covenant footage descriptions (which featured footage not shown in the trailer) mentioned two Neomorph birthing scenes. One involved a Neomorph bursting from the back of a male crew member (which was teased in the trailer) while another involved a Neomorph crawling its way up the throat of its host - exploding their head to break free. It's unlikely that scene will be featured in any future trailers and will remain an exclusive sneak peek for those who attended Fox's 2017 film showcase event - as it was extremely graphic and gruesome.

As new details concerning the new Aliens of Alien: Covenant are released, we'll be sure to keep you updated!

What do you think of the Neomorphs so far? Do you think their backbursting and throatbursting birth scenes will trump that of the Xenomorph's iconic chestburst scene? Sound off below and be sure to check back often for the next article in our Alien: Covenant Trailer Analysis series!

These Neomorphs are probably what comes out if you "mix" a traditional facehugger and a black-goo-spore.
As we saw in the trailer, the captain got infected twice.

Its nice to see they used the unused Carlos Huante's babyhead concept for the neomorph design. And we might actually see it grow rather than see it run somewhere and many minutes later see it fully grown.

To be honest, the neomorphs kinda reminded me a bit of white bald humanoids from the horror film Pandorum (2009).

The one getting infected through the ear isn't the captain. It looks like it. And I think maybe the latest Alien is a neomorph as well. Because if the protomorph is coming later, I find it´s kinda strange taking a shower like that. AND, most importantly, and I took me 5 viewings seeing it, even if its right there. The hand and fingers of that alien in the shower is crazy long and strange.

The one who gets infected through the ear is Benjamin Rigby.

Way before the trailer or anything was released there was some leak from someone who have seen some scenes from the film, about some virus entering some guy's ear and then later some alien bursting from his back.

I suppose thats it from the trailer.

Seriously?

MemberOvomorphDec-25-2016 7:57 AM

The throatbursting birth scenes WILL trump that of the Xenomorph's iconic chestburst scenes! There is practically going to be heads bursting!

It would appear from the reports of those who saw the footage, these 2 Neomorphs escape into the woods that the crew is trapped on.

StaffXenomorphDec-25-2016 11:50 AM

My guess is that neomorphs can actually burst from any part of the human body.Back and throat are just few examples that are shown.According to THIS (spoilers alert) ,one neomorph actually bursted through some guy's chest.

It appears though the Alien in the shower scene appears to be somewhat bigger than normal.

@clovenberg2 - I noticed the long fingers on the Alien in the shower scene, also...

I love that we only get to see a quick, unclear glimpse of the Neo-Morph...can't wait to see what an adult lurking around looks like.

My *only* concerns are:

1) I'm afraid of seeing too much in the trailers. As awesome as it was, I almost feel like the back burster scene should have been left out altogether, or at least edited in such a way that we only see the interaction with the two female characters, while hearing the sounds of what's going on with Rigby so you are left still in suspense but still wondering, "What the hell is going on in that room!?" I want to go into this movie knowing the basic premise, but the scenes that carry the most shock-value should be thrown at the audience during the viewing of the film. Of course, I understand that there are still 2 hours of unseen footage, but I just don't want to feel like I know when the other, more suspenseful moments are coming and what they entail. That's what made the original chestburster in Alien so iconic and original. It's difficult, if not close-to impossible, to meet or exceed that type of scene, but I feel that if I know too much about the film before it's released, the less impact it will have on me on the big screen.

2) The shower scene...it's not that it looks terrible, but I feel like we've been exposed to so many different renditions of people getting murdered in showers throughout the course of film history that is seems to have lost its impact. I get that colonization is a main theme in Covenant, but if you're looking for shock value, I think another route could have a stronger reaction.

Homage will be paid to all the traits of the MORB that we've seen dozens of times before. The artistry will be in how this is done. Our expectations can be used against us, and I expect that to be done here. The tension will come as much from what we know as from what we don't.

I have to imagine too that other lessons were learned from Prometheus, and that these trailers will divulge less as a result. Remember too that it's been said that  Covenant has similar scope to Prometheus, which means the Engineer mythos will be writ large.

I've wondered what David will look like this time out, and never did it occur to me that he'd be wearing an Engineer style robe. Really nice touch. Fassbender looks amazing.

Neomorphs equal engineers+black goo. David exposes them to it to protect or avenge Shaw, or maybe he just wants to watch the world burn...

facehugger79,

I always asked that same question.  Seems ASH figured it was better to take the big chap back than the facehugger.  But my question was how did the crew not know the facehugger planted an embryo in Kane.  Of course Ash knew (he turns off the monitor when Ripley walks in) , and the crew observed him monitoring the process using the med bay equipment.  Seems like a simple X-ray would have shown the chestburster in Kane. I would have immediately asked Ash, "Why the hell did you not see it in his chest.

Yeah, right before Ash rolls up a wad of magazines and shoves them down your throat.

Looked at the Neomorph in detail...

To me its different to the Baby-Head AKA Belugamorphs

It looks more like the Deacon only more pale grey, its mouth especially from that shot...

However its body looks like one of the concept props we saw, its actually a combination of 3 of those from what i can see.

I cant post photo as it was one of the requested ones to be taken down... but if you remember well enough..

Looks similar to body of the Large one and one next to it, with tail like one next to it, with the head and spikes of the other one that has no baby appearance.

The head looks a bit more like this.

I don't think think it's a me neomorph incthe shower, BigDave. I think that's the protomorph from the poster.

MemberFacehuggerDec-27-2016 8:15 AM

@JakeHanson44, I don't think we've seen everything yet.  And even if we "know" how these 2 deaths occur, we weren't shown everything.  For example, I believe there is a description of the back burster and they say that certain internal parts of the victims body burst out along with the neomorph... and they show it in detail.

And I don't know this for sure, but this is a colonizing ship.  Maybe some woman is pregnant and that plays into some of the disturbing images and deaths too?  (as much as that would be terrible, I suppose they may "go there")

Do we think it is possible for one of the neomorphs and the protomorph to ever cross paths in the film? And whether it can/does happen, what would come of it?

@A L I E N 4 2 6

I know sometimes with how much i write its hard to read word for word so i think a misunderstanding has happened ;)

I was on about the Monster in the Trailer in the Drop Ship...

The one on the Covenant will no doubt come from the Billy Crudup Facehugger....

I've been studying that short glimpse of the neomorph from the trailer, and I did a little sketch of it.Im not really some professional artist.

My sketch

Added effect to enhance the sketch

Looks like a mix between deacon and Carlos Huante's baby head.Deacon was originally supposed to be white but for some reason they changed its color to blue.

Chris

AdminEngineerJan-03-2017 8:12 AM

Nice sketch Nebula, it does look a bit like the Deacon. Although it seems to have a more bulbous face than the Deacon - who's was more narrow. Definitely curious.

As for why they made the Deacon blue, I'm not sure. Maybe (going out there again) the color of the Alien's skin at least in Prometheus and Covenant represent the "state" of its host? If the host is "pure" and without "sin" it births a white, "pure" looking Alien. While the Engineer on LV-223 had clearly been caught up in some dirty deeds, it's possible the blue/black coloring represented a "tainted" soul? Likely not the actual reasoning behind it, but could make for a subtle metaphor.

The other speculation could be that the Deacon was gestating inside the Engineer for longer than we thought (due to the pressure suit) and the skin had more time to harden and turn that color, instead of the Neomorphs who can birth easily through Human flesh while they're very young.

Who knows!

Dark Nebula

StaffXenomorphJan-04-2017 9:43 AM

Thank you very much Chris.

I heard something about the deacon's color that some guy ****ed up and instead of white painted it in blue, but people like it,or it was his choice to choose the color for it idk.

According to the leaked description of the Neomorphs,if I remember correctly (WARNING SPOILERS BELOW):

-they can burst out of any part of the body, back and throat are just few examples.Just like how the released spores enter through different parts of human body (ear and nose).

-Unlike the classic xeno, when after bursting out of its host, the chestburster escapes somewhere away from humans and few hours later its fully grown, with neomorphs we might actually see them slowly growing.

-they seem extremely agressive and strong (even at birth).According to the description from one scene that was shown to the journalists, after bursting through back of someone the baby neomorph attacks and overpowers the woman that was contained in the room with it.It then breaks through the glass of the door and starts chasing other woman. That woman while running starts shooting at it but is unable to shoot it because the crazy neomorph is jumping and climbing all over the place while chasing her.

-this sounds crazy, but if its true, they can actually shoot the spikes that they have on their back.

Soo If you see a neomorph, even if its a baby...

Just

Damn, if the adult neomorph is exactly look like this then I think it's far more scarier but less artistic than giger's design.

Beluga, xenomorph

MemberOvomorphApr-07-2017 10:14 PM

That's a beluga xenomorph not a adult neomorph the beluga xenomorph is the original form of the xenomorph adult and the xenomorphs you see in the first four movies are weaponized versions of the beluga xenomorph modified by the engineers and the original facehuggers were called octo facehuggers and the beluga xenomorph was supposed to appear in alien engineers the original title of Prometheus but they were scrapped, the beluga xenomorphs were white and boneless and could change the shape and form to slip under or into right places like under doors ulike the black xenomorphs which were covered in exoskeletons
