The official second, full-length trailer for Alien: Covenant was prematurely released earlier tonight by 20th Century Fox but was quickly removed. However after enough people managed to download the trailer and share it throughout various outlets, Fox decided to re-publish the trailer online for everyone to enjoy.

The new trailer clocks in at over 2:30 minutes and packs a ton of new footage; our first real look at the film's new XenomorphNeomorphs attacking the Covenant crew, as well as many new scenes of the Engineer city ruins and David. The trailer also features the Prometheus siren near the end - a nice callback. You can now watch the official trailer here:

Check back soon for our in-depth analysis and a plethora of new HD screenshots!

This was so intense! Inspite of the new aliens, I am most intrigued by all the dead bodies in the temple scenes...They can't all be Engineers, can they...Hard to imagine what could wipe so many big, strong, strapping, muscular, sweaty hunks (Sorry, had to catch myself...) like that...

It seems Walter is also caught up on the action to which appears is a neomorph attack.

Also what appears to be David firing off a flare. When the neo attacks.

This is choice. This should tie things in nicely. Hoping the CGI gets cleaned up a bit. This makes me warm and fuzzy like the summer of 2012. Loved elements of Prometheus with dashes of Alien. This might just be the prequel we've wanted.

I've got a bunch of screenshots ready for upload - along with a few articles prepped. Will be sharing them later tonight. Thanks to everyone who shared the trailer once it was up! Apologies for removing the other posts, I had this announcement prepared already but had to step out after speaking with Fox. Was not expecting them to release it early.

Very pleased to see the Neos look very much like the prop head. It's time for some #Belugamorphs people!!

O.G. Xeno

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2017 6:58 PM

The Xeno in the trailer is definitely a protomorph. I've spent enough time looking at the designs. His shoulders are way to spaced out, along with its behavior seems to indicate that it is quadripedal. That lines up with the statement that the protomorph looks similar to the runner alien in alien 3. Also, if the neomorphs in the trailer are full sized at that point, they are small than a full grown human, meaning a protomorph at around 8-9 feet could easily kill several of them.

It's ok Chris I think people including myself get so carried away in the excitement with the new stuff that it's easy to forget potential action taken by FOX.

I absolutely agree Dr. Connors that was some indication of damn fine acting. Also gotta give some credit to McBride who seems to do a fantastic job so far and I have no doubt in my mind that he will be amazing in Alien Covenant.

Do you guys think the reason why we haven't seen much of David is because there's a lot more to his motive/end game than we think? Is it possible that David is the real monster of this movie?

The CG needs some slight touch ups, and I'm still not sure how I feel about the Protomorph design. It's very broad but thin and the tubes curve outward which to me is a very awkward design

AdamPD

MemberFacehuggerFeb-28-2017 8:33 PM

First post here, so hi all!

Yea I'm starting to think David caused the extinction of the Engineer race

The ships in the film Prometheus all seemed to be almost military style "bomber" ships, capable of dropping hundreds/thousands of ampules onto a planet, like the one which the USC Prometheus rammed.

I'm guessing the engineer ships don't have FTL capability, so Shaw went into hibernation and David piloted the ship, perhaps the engineers shot the ship down, it crashed and released the cargo into the atmosphere/bio system, or David did that on purpose.

I can't tell if the corpses you see briefly are engineer or human, but they look burnt/dirty, and haven't decomposed, so perhaps this calamity took place recently.

Did anyone notice the chest burster scene to? Around 2:03 in the trailer.

Around 2:04, where you see all the internal doors shutting, the monitor shows what looks like David at the ships controls, I wonder if he purposely unleashes something on the main covenant ship?

AdamPD

MemberFacehuggerFeb-28-2017 10:31 PM

@Birdman

Yea, I always assumed that each pyramid on the Prometheus planet (Sorry I Forget the designation) was a storage facility for bio weapons, each pyramid having a bomber for delivering those weapons in the hanger near each pyramid, it stands to reason the other ship had a different cargo of black liquid or something similar to be dropped onto another planet.

I don't honestly know if David had orders to infect (holloway was it?), or if he did it because he enjoyed experimenting, in the same way he experimented by dyeing his hair

He probably came to Paradise and found it populated with humans or perhaps, human sized engineers? Perhaps the one we saw in Prometheus was enhanced size wise, a bit like a super soldier for off world bio warfare/research.

That might explain a why the dead corpses seem human sized, but SEEM to have shiny bald heads (some are reflecting light).

Given the fact there's no noise when the Covenant crew arrive, no animals/birds etc, despite having Wheat crops, it sounds to me like David unleashed something on a global scale, either by releasing it after crash landing, or from orbit (perhaps as a dig at Shaw, so she can't get her answers lol)

Easily, the most intriguing shot is David walking towards the temple with Engineer bodies everywhere.

This franchise could go deeper, if they kept Shaw alive. I love Alien and I love Prometheus in the level that normal moviegoers can't understand. It's time we had to evolve for movie industry. AC looks great but i wish to see a journey to find the meaning of Life.

Shaw is dead and gone for good.

Daniels is mother Mary now, get over it.

In the temple scene not everyone is dead, some are still alive kneeling, so it is a fresh holocaust.

MuzzleNZ

MemberFacehuggerFeb-28-2017 11:30 PM

I don't think any of the engineers we see are alive. I think they look to be 'dead where they stand'. Intriguing, as I suspect this may be where the 'fossilisation' will fit in to the picture. If David did that to the Engineers, it's  some time in the 10 year period since they left LV-223. The Engineers look petrified or baked on the spot (reminiscent of the Space Jockey).

The ship looks very much like the Derelict. I think things seem to be piecing together

The First Child

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2017 11:48 PM

Everything looks great except for the cgi. Hopefully they are still working on it. The alien cgi is almost identical to the one from alien isolation. The neomorph cgi looks similar to the cgi from splice years ago.

christjo

MemberOvomorphFeb-28-2017 11:53 PM

Like others have said about the lab pic it most likely is david's and it could be shaw on the table and if you look in the room you can see what looks like a facehugger dead (like how bishop and ash were examining the dead facehuggers) and images of engineers around the room

The First Child

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 12:00 AM

I don't believe all the engineers were killed off in this attack (whether by David or something else is unknown at the moment). The reason being that in the Prometheus comics there are numerous engineers that make an appearance. And these stories take place hundreds of years after the event of Covenant

Inquisitor Fifield

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 12:00 AM

no way in the entire frozen hell this is Shaw or any human (female) on the table :D

MemberFacehuggerMar-01-2017 12:34 AM

Hmm. I think the only character I'll be rooting for is Tennessee. The others are breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'm liking the neomorph. Funny how it moves like those from Aliens (Cameron will be flattered). I guess it's going to be the mindless, jumping-jack killer type as opposed to the elusive, cerebral, sadistic type. Nevermind, sit back, relax, and enjoy the feature.

Gizmo89

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 12:44 AM

After watching this trailer a couple of times, I wanna say there are gonna be two major Protomorph fights in the film, the one that comes out of Bill Crudup's Captain character and the second one that comes out of Walter fighting Daniels and Danny Mcbride's character.

Are you serious...CGI flying bug aliens...daytime jungle setting..a disgrace to Alien. First trailer was great, this was crap sorry. Bunch of fan boy AVP shyte. Rejoice simple minded fan boy geeks.'

I hear you but my feeling is we will see a compromise.  The first trailer set a dark mysterious tone and focused more on David.  This one ramped up the 'creature feature' element but I think manages to ask some good questions and pose some mystery.

Remember, this is Fox so they need the film to make $$$.  I think they are treading a line between pleasing fan boys and making an intriguing sci-fi piece.  Hopefully Ridley will pull it off . . .

What does intrigue me are the temple/bodies scene - it's on a scale I'd imagined (larger than the released photos) and it looks like a cityscape of sorts in the back ground?  Perhaps we will get more insights here?  And also the look at 'David's lair' - where is it (I'd guess in the large domed building we see?)

And who is that 'opened up' on the table?  It does make me think Shaw and her 'baby(s)' have been further experimented on to create some of what we see (eggs perhaps?)

lastly, the lack of life . . . I discussed this on a thread a while back and thought they would either have to go down a 'full life' or no life route.  Seems they have gone the latter.  Now, i may be 2+2=5 here but if all life has gone/doesn't exist planet wide then I'm gonna say David was not responsible for all the devastation we see.  I hope that is the case personally, so we get more of the engineer back story at some point.

Going off the two trailers: actors look good and roles well fleshed out;  I like the visuals/setting and  I'd say this will be a good thriller/horror but may not give me as much of the engineer/xeno back story as I'd have liked.  We shall see . . .

Eggs are black goo enhanced spore pods, Neomorphs are an indigenous species to the planet and so are the spore pods......this is my take on it.

I don't remember seeing any other advanced life in the trailer on the planet......maybe the spore pods killed everything they could infect?

Protomorph is missing the biomechanoid part which is the part that David adds in the final quarter of the film......

Giving birth to the Xenomorph at the end of the film......allowing for 1 more film after.

Neomorph

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 5:08 AM

The Neomorph is an adult backburster, but I'm still certain that David has a role in the creation of any biomechanoid creature, judging by his twisted horror lab with all the anatomy pictures.

Great stuff all...

Just a thought, i really don't think David was waiting for someone to arrive unload his "little friends" on. If david had wanted to infect some folks, he could have easily have have used the Alien technology he acquired to fix/rebuild a ship to take him wherever he wanted to go.

I think there is more to this than Dave just wanting to kill everything and set the table for his creations.

I agree with Inquisitor Fifield, cinema has evolved, the original Alien films are from a different era, you just arent gonna get films like that anymore, same with music, rock just doesnt sound the same as the old 80s stuff did, and it never will.

Alien: Covenant looks amazing and epic! Part of me wants to say something to the haters on here but what's the point, I probably shouldn't have even said this cause they will probably have something to say about it. I never said it was Shaw . . . ;)  More that snippet witnessed suggests to me that David has clearly 'birthed' something from whoever it is.

I do feel she is (or has been) a part in helping David do this 'creating'.

The dead engineers(?) is awesome!  It does look like a huge city in the distance so who knows what David has found there . . .

I also agree that whatever role Shaw plays will be pivotal and a big shock/plot element.

Could it be an engineer on the table?  Just asking . . . ;)

TeeDub

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 8:11 AM

Could it be Walter and David is starting the experiments with Alien and Android DNA?

Chris10an

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 9:03 AM

Android`s dont have dna

The cgi spores look terrible, seeking for people's cavity. It would be much more realistic if the character stumbled in a branch or something and fell nose first into the mushroom things and had some goo smeared in his face wich he wipes off and acts like nothing happened to the rest of the crew.

I just hope he makes it a bit more realistic and dont take as many shortcuts as in prometheus. From the look of trailer #2 it looks more promising, such as the crew more carefully  investigates the new planet with awe, instead of prometheus when they just drive of from the drop ship and straight into the first abnormal thing they see and the archeologists of the crew just jumps out of the wessel and runs into the first cave not caring at all what`s under their feet.

Oh, and i still think shaw is alive somewhere else.

Two points:

1)Show less and it would be better. I have a really good idea how the movie is going to go now. No anticipation... no suspense...

2) Ridley Scott should never have listened to Alien fan(****)boys.Where are the Engineers?I don't wanna see an other Alien movie!!

Chris10an

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 11:12 AM

"Spacejockey85"

1) still we have tons of questions, and very few answers

2)I agree, why introduce the engineers and intrigue us with a exiting story of them, i wanted to find out how they have interacted with the human race here on earth since the beginning of our existence, and how they lived on their home planet, how much of the universe they "controlled" and if the human race entered a new level with them, seing we had tecnologically advanced so much we could actually build space ship ourself and come visit them. Instead Ridley just kills them all because the fans were shouting for aliens, even when we have another upcoming alien movie in the making.

Don`t get me wrong, the movie looks awesome and i can`t wait to see it, but it was just not the story i hoped for after everything that happened in Prometheus.

Spacejockey85

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 11:20 AM

We are on the same page, Chris10an. I have nothing else to add to your answer.I have a bad feeling about this.

Dr. Curt Connors

MemberChestbursterMar-01-2017 11:38 AM

Not shooting down any of your theories and I can only speak for myself and try to evaluate from a studio's point of view. A lot of people didn't like Prometheus, myself included, it was pretty boring in my opinion and they wanted to change things up. They want this movie to make a lot of money, I know Prometheus did well, but that movie was so divisive. They want the general public, not just the hardcore fans, to see this movie in droves and that means making it more of an action movie. But don't think for one second that this movie isn't going to be just as intellectually stimulating as the action and horror throughout. It's going to have everything.

Pete Mac

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 11:41 AM

I'm of the same mind the whole concept of Prometheus was about the big guy in the chair not aliens, yes it leads to alien but not for three or four movies later now we have huggers & xenos in part two? This is sadly due to fan pressure if that upsets people then tough going back on the whole base idea of the movie because someone wants another alien movie now, I think Ridley should of stuck to his guns and said it's my movie and we'll get to Alien later. That being said I am intrigued by Covenant and want to see where it goes I just would of prefered where Prometheus was going with the Engineers.

There are plenty of articles saying they did as many practical effects as possible. I thought the CGI looked great, actually hard to tell when certain things were CGI sometimes. I think the movie looks amazing! Sorry to the people who aren't excited, no I'm actually not, who cares.

MemberOvomorphMar-01-2017 6:44 PM

1. That body on the table could possibly be an engineer head clamped to the table. Either looks like the setting is some kind of research, purpose to analyse and dissect. Pictures drawn of different facial stages of infection perhaps.

2. It is a confusing chicken or the egg situation. Did the engineers die before David and Shaw's arrival or after? Those bodies look so fresh. And is that Xeno product of face hugger on engineer as. It looks different than the ones from humans?

I too am more interested in finding out more about the engineer race. We have waited 27 years and I hope it is not another goose chase like Prometheus leaving more questions than answers. Ridley Scott is notorious for refusing to make it easy on the audience, but for the love of god I hope we at least get some answers.

Maybe the spores aren't all over the planet as I initially thought, but where the Juggernaut landed as in this picture (on the left, where the flashlight is being shone).

Also, I lightened this scene up to see the "temple" a little more clearly.  The statues are not like the giant heads we saw at the installation of LV-223 and their shape doesn't look like an Engineer (these statues seem more slender).  As another person pointed out though, the figures on the ground seem to be taller than the person walking among them.

@Membrane   That temple shot is Ridley Scott at his best! Bringing the epic scale of Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator, Exodus: Gods and Kings to an Alien movie! ****ing awesome!

GODDAMN TROPICS:    Sure man, but I thought they were releasing the greenband and the redband at the same time online.  I guess not.  Even if they do release it in the next day or two I imagine it will basically be the same as the greenband but with a few added F-Bombs.

Here are some random thoughts after I watched the trailer.

It is interesting about the spores, it could be that the black goo mutated it. This could be a result of David experimenting on the vegetation. The goo acted as a mutagen in Prometheus so it probably has been used on the whole planet or at least a part of it (we don’t know how much it can spread, it could be like you poured a bucket of water that is spreads but that isn’t obvious from the trailers at least).

Crudup’s character and how he reacts to the opening egg is interesting. It seems to be a reaction of interest and fear.

Is that Walter or David at 1:55-1:56? That sequence happened so fast so I never could figure that out. It seems like he is holding a gun or something similar.

The Xeno at 2:10 is interesting. Is it a Xeno or a neo-morph?

I am looking forward to see how Daniel McBride’s character will be.

Did anyone else captured this motion from the trailer?
