They didn't know Ripley's story until she started blabbing it all over the station....basically calling out the company for killing her crew mates.....it would have been obvious who killed her. Much easier to MIA her. Burkes backstory is unknown.......He could have been plotting a company coup or something. W-Y must have know how dangerous this mission was going to be....Why send such and important employee?
As far as I'm concerned, there are 2 entities; Synths and Weyland-Yutani. I'd say the Synthetic AI is always ahead.

First trailer for ‘ALIEN: ROMULUS’ is reportedly set to release this month. (Via: @DanielRPK)
We are ready.
Ummm I was under the impression that Burke was operating alone. Burke seemed more like a rogue operative, the Company just wanted to discredit Ripley, not kill her since they could have easily done that prior to reviving her at Gateway Station. So the test bed idea doesn't make sense.
Hadley's Hope did seem like a test bed. They sent the only witness (Ripley) and a 'green' company commander (Gorman)..It was bound to fail. If they wanted it to succeed...they'd have sent a massive fleet and taken everything alive.
Get Ripley killed and some company moron(Burke). Test out the 'product' and clear out the deadwood. Win-Win.
not to be that guy, but I have a feeling this is going to be a stand-alone story that might reference the first movie or not. Disney seems dead set not to bring up Ripley or her storyline, so I think the movie is going to on the other side of colonized space dealing with a bunch of new people.
I will have to say no, knowing Hollywood they'll probably reveal it sometime in the fall
We will have to wait and see
The images are not from the trailer or movie as far as I'm aware, I suspect those are just placeholders / fan art.
I'm getting System Shock vibes seeing it may take place on a saucer-shaped Space Station
I think Romulus will avoid much of what was established in Prometheus and Covenant. I more so believe it'll be connected to Alien: Isolation, so I suspect there will be links to that. However, I have a big suspicion that WY knew about the Xenomorph and the Derelict well before we think they did and the events of Alien, Isolation and Aliens are all connected and orchestrated with purpose behind the scenes by the corporation. Something much more sinister is at play, I bet.
The question is, does the film take place before or after the events of Alien: Isolation?
In Alien isolation, it was revealed that years after the events of Alien, the crew of Anesidora picked up the beacon, landed on LV-426 to investigate, found the derelict, and shut off the beacon to prevent anyone from finding the ship. The derelict remained untouched for some time until the events of Aliens when Ripley told the WY about it and Burke informed the colonists which led to the downfall.
I’ve seen some people already theorizing based on these “leaks” that the company might have gotten the Ovomorph eggs from either Covenant or Planet 4, if not from Derelict or anywhere else.
Very much so. I'm working on digging up more details, but it's true the links do connect somewhat to what we heard months ago.
From the sounds of it, the young group of scavengers are poverty stricken and planning to pillage a decommissioned Weyland-Yutani station that they caught wind of. So they embark on a mission hoping to strike it rich only to accidentally unleash the cargo that lay dormant.
Given that this film takes place between Alien and Aliens, I wonder if the station is pre-Hadley's Hope but ends up being the reason for the settlement on LV-426. Weyland-Yutani were already aware of the Derelict, sent the Nostromo in to investigate first, Alien happens, they set up an observation station nearby and set up a research outpost - under the guise of a Terraforming settlement on the planet.
Hmmmm the hamster wheel is turning again haha.
"Leaks" from months ago did say the film would start on a planet and then switch to a space station.
Just an hour ago, V Scooper added that the film has some surprises and a big premise in the franchise's lore. I wonder.
If these claims are true, I wonder what surprises the film has in store for us. The plot is giving me "Pandorum (2009)" and "Trench 11 (2017)" vibes.
Indeed you’re right, the Super/Royal Facehugger from Alien 3 did sport barbs but only on the first two appendages. It also featured webbed tissue between each of the fingers as well.
This appears to indicate the regular Facehuggers have barbs and on all fingers, not just the first two. It also doesn’t appear to have any webbing so I assume this isn’t a Super/Royal Facehugger - although if it is, that suggests we might see a Praetorian or Queen in the new movie…
Weren't the barbs on the Super Facehugger?
Revisiting these old topics brings back so much nostalgia.
As long as it's not woke pandering and has a coherent plot, I'll be happy.
it's going to be romantic comedy
Me too. I wonder how and where are the characters going to find Ovomorph eggs, will they find a Derelict ship, another biomechanical outpost, or something else?
I'm actually really looking forward to this movie.
i love how its based on Giger's version of the Space Jockey!
Grotesque and amazing! Thanks for sharing these updates!
Well I hope Romulus is a good movie, hopefully they don't interject real world politics into the setting because well... Disney
I'm okay with any PR stunt....Need to get some interviewers asking question to these actors. Generate 'some' content! We've had nothing.
If they overplay it: The majority are probably going to be disappointed....Reviewers have field days on overhyped movies. "The trailer Showed too MUCH!!","The trailer was better than the movie!!"
If they underplay it: Many won't put it on their summer watch list...or forget about it entirely.
Luckily, August look pretty tame for big releases. Romulus stands a good chance.
This sounds like a PR stunt
I sure hope Bob Iger used the wrong word because I see no reason to start a whole new continuity.
I wished ALIEN and PREDATOR were owned by Universal or Paramount
I hope this movie will be better than the in-name only TV series
Good, I hope Hawley's "alien" is a separate continuity from the ALIEN films and that its a one season series.
Good. It's nice that Iger knows something about it. ( unless he's completely wrong )
And It's separate...so there's no timeline destruction.
( They should be a hundred years apart anyway!! )
Considering it hits theaters this summer I suspect a trailer and official website are on the horizon! I miss the days when Prometheus was announced and we had like 2 years of chatter, marketing material and slow-feed details. It built hype so much for that film, now it seems films get announced with barely a year before release and the marketing only ramps up 3 months prior to release. I get attention spans are shorter for online presence, but this franchise is a treasure trove of debatable ideas and theories which can propel the hype train much further than conventional marketing tactics, imo.
Either way, it's exciting to see some movement on Romulus! Eager to see more.
guess we will have a teaser trailer very soon. =)
Looks good. Hopefully a website soon?
I wonder if Iger has watched it, or does only Marvel, Star Wars and Disney stuff gets his attention.
I'm still astonished that nothing has leaked....doesn't anyone care about ALIEN?
I'm good with whatever they do...except if they ruin the soundtrack.
Indeed it is supposed to take place between Alien and Aliens - Perhaps Bob Iger used the wrong word? Or Romulus is a reboot and the year in which it takes place happens to fall between the events of Alien and Aliens - but with no significant ties to either film besides the Weyland-Yutani Corporation. That's my guess.
Wait, wait, wait, I thought Alien Romulus is supposed to take place between ALIEN and ALIENS, how will that be possible if its a reboot?
A reboot? I find that difficult to believe. Probably a misquote.
Romulus: Ship name? Base name? Plot description?
paulpettit
It means "Alien/Strange Form", its the official name for the aliens in the ALIEN series
