dk - That's a natural thing, I think.

BigDave - We shouldn't forget that Scott gave us the brilliant dark fantasy Legend (1985).

BigDave

Almost all Alien movies had happy ending:

1. Alien - Ripley survives

2. Aliens - Ripley+ Hicks + Newt + Bishop survive

3. Alien 3 - Ripley dies a saviour at the end, Newt and Hicks die in their sleep, Bishop ask to be euthanized, was the most  least favorite movie and should have closed the series.

4. Alien Resurrection - Ripley clone survives, Call survives, and at least Ron Pearlman's character survives.

5 AVP the protagonist survives.

6 AVPR - don't know, never seen, never will

7. Prometheus - Shaw (the protagonist them, as Rapace is credited first not Fassbender) and David survive.

8. comix - don't as i didn't have any.

For me it is pretty clear that most of them have something of a happy ending, but what you think the Franchise should is up to you, but no one in their right mind would think that the way to earn more money from a film is to crank up nihilism.

As for Rapace, do you realize her last movie in Hollywood was in 2015 in Child 44 (and for 2 years she disappeared, and came back in that crap Rupture) and I don't think she will be back soon, unfortunately. You might say that she is too good an actress to play a certain role, but that I think is better than to play none. Oh, well, I hope Stockholm will arrive at my $hitty cinema later this year.

Yea if they did not force the Xenomorph we could have gotten a great movie of the actual process of creating the Xeno with maybe just a shot of the Xeno lurking in a dark doorway as a last shot like the Deacon at the end of Prometheus.

I think you are right Bigdave. Too bad I don't think we are going to get a sequel. I think if a year or two passes Ridley may literally pass and these prequels will be forgotten by Disney.

Indeed.... i think the Problem is the movie would be given a limited run time where exploring Davids Creations would eat into this, hence the Extra Content to cover it.

The Flute Scene was just RS trying to show that David has Free-Will and can Create, and showed in a Artistic Matter, where as Walter has no Free-will as such and he is not intended to Create, he can only Copy, so he cant Creatively Paint his own Painting, or Create his own Music but he can replicate/copy a Musical and Painting.

Where as David has creative free-will and the Flute Scene was David showing to Walter that indeed he can Create, and so showing Walter that he can be Free of Will.  The idea was wonderful i think the application of it and execution was very flawed, very corny and camp.

No Problem, have you seen my Grammatical Errors ;)

The whole AI and Soul thing i wonder if it would be explored, because RS has said he wishes to explore AI more in the next movie, and if the company is ran by AI with Mankind not being aware (much like in the Matrix) then the motives behind some in the company become less problematic, if AI is running the show, then AI/Synthetics would have no Moral Compass when it comes down to insignificant and in-superior Humans.

As far as the Cave System, indeed my idea would be that it would become like the Greek/Roman Underworld, accessed via a River.  And so in a way a place of Hell, where anyone who stumbles past the first layer would discover  Guard Dogs of Hell, and Discover Daniels or what became of her and how she would be representative of Satans Daughter Sin in the Paradise Lost Poem.

The Engineers Bio-Mechanical Technology/Aesthetic has something in common with the Xenomorph, but i think what is interesting is some of the Experiments in Davids work-shop share some similar Aesthetics to the Engineers Suits.

There has to be a connection, and so at some point these Engineers obtained/created a Bio-Technology that they had applied to themselves and one time by going to far maybe created something else... like the Fresco Creature (which has similar posture/proportions to the Lab Experiment above) or they came across something that lead to similar as in the Fresco and began Engineering/Experiments on this that leads to their Bio-Mechanical Atheistic of their Suits.

This is where RS can sometimes appear confusing....

I know RS had inferred to LV-223 as a Military Outpost but there are a number of flaws with this, it appears the clues with Prometheus and AC do paint a picture for us, i wonder if this picture is whats different to what RS has in his mind?

Jon Spaights Alien Engineers started all of this... his idea seems to show is the Pursuit of Perfection and attempting to Evolve Creation, which lead to the Ancient Engineers Evolving themselves to the point they lost the ability to Procreate.  These beings are Engineers and as RS had mentioned Space Gardeners, Genetic Gardeners and so indeed for any Race who wish to Genetically Create and Experiment we can see the aim would be to Perfect what ever creation it is.  Be it a Gardener attending to his Crop, where they may try to Hybridize Crop, make better Crop.

If we put this down to Humanoid Genetic Experiments, then we can see with Human Science, we could be pushing the boundaries of Genetic Manipulation, which has some Moral Compass Boundaries but indeed its possible if Science is Allowed to do what ever it wishes that in Hundreds of Years we could Genetically Engineer the Perfect Human. If not in the not to distant future.

And so if WE Genetically Engineered ourselves so our Organs do not die or wear out, well at a much slower rate, and we Genetically are Engineered to be immune to 99.9% of any diseases or viruses and any Genetic Flaws, so that we could live say Thousands of Years, then losing the ability to Procreate could be a possible outcome...

So when we look at the Planet 4 Engineers which Ridley Scott claimed are the ORIGINAL Engineers and also they live for 150 years, where as Jon Spaights Alien Engineers lived for Thousands, we can certainly be led to conclude that some ENGINEERS had taken Genetic Manipulation to the Extreme and became the LV-223 Engineers.

The route that Alien Covenant had taken with our more Human looking Engineers and Females, puts into Question the notion that the Species Lost the Ability to Procreate.... especially of those Planet 4 Engineers are the ORIGINALS we have to then ask WHY do they Seed Worlds?  HOW/WHY did Mankind come to be.

Surely these Engineers just needed to go to other Worlds and Drop off a Colony of their Species, say a Hundred and then over thousands of years we have a Civilization.

A few interesting points Ridley Scott had made....

When talking about the Engineers, he did mention just how Humans have different races/creeds and so different versions of Humanity, why cant the Engineers have the same.  He also had mentioned that the Engineers ARE-NOT a Race but a CIVILIZATION

There has to be something to all of this then, because indeed those LV-223 and Planet 4 Engineers are different, and we still have to ask what Purpose was LV-223 and our Creation, because those Planet 4 Engineers were not afraid of the returning Juggernaught.... was this a welcoming of their Military Heros back from Battle?

Then we need to look at LV-223 the Star Maps span Thousands of years, if this place was a Military Outpost from its inception then why did they leave us a Map to it as early as 35'000 years ago, and come back over and over to interact with Mankind for thousands of years, before 2000 years ago setting off to Destroy us?

Why show many Ancient Civilizations a Map to a Weapons Facility, why Produce Bio-Weapons for over 35'000 years and show this place to Mankind and then after 33'000 years  plan to use this Bio-Weapon and happen to then loose control of it 2000 years ago?  How did they contain it for 33'000 years?

None of it makes sense..... apart from this place LV-223 was a Outpost a Gardeners Nursery/Greenhouse where they watched over us, came down and took back samples to Test and Evolve and then place the Results they was pleased with back on Earth...  This would explain why the LV-223 Outpost was Tera-formed, and because those LV-223 Engineers could survive outside.

The Star Maps were to tell us WHERE WE CAME FROM

But something happened that caused them to become infected with something that lead to the Deacon and these Engineers then saw this as Perfect, maybe more so if these LV-223 Engineers could not Procreate, then the Xenomorph Parasite Life-Cycle would allow them to Give Birth to Life.  They then saw this DNA as Perfect and chosen to use its (Mural) DNA in those Urns to Evolve Mankind.

The Planet 4 Engineers are maybe not aware of LV-223, if the Juggernaughts are a Evolution of the Tear Drop Seeding Ships, where instead of Sacrificing a Engineer with a Bowl/Cup of Sacrificial Goo, they could instead expose them to the same Process but collect the broken down Engineer DNA and store them in Urns.

This is a Evolution of the Seeding Process, taking a Number of Engineers and Sacrifcing them in some Chamber or similar where there Broken Down DNA is then collected into those Urns or Ampoules instead of being allowed to enter the Water-Fall and Fly into the Wind...  would make Seeding Worlds more simple... They just drop those Urns instead.

THIS... would explain those Engineers welcoming a Juggernaught, if the Purpose is that a few Chosen Engineers would be used to be Sacrificed on those Ships to become the SEED for New Worlds, a Great Honor for their Kind, and then they are Immortalized not only in their DNA, but by having a Statue Erected in their image and honor in the Plaza

The Statues around the Hanger which those Engineers were flocking to in  Thousands, look like Buddha Offering Statues, they appear to be holding a Ceremonial Bowl like the Sacrificial Scene, and hence indeed to me this indicates a Great Sacrificial Purpose to the Hanger.

All of this is similar to my theories prior to AC, and after AC i think these things add up more to those theories, but its a case of IS ANY OF THIS actually what RS had going through his mind?

One of the Last Things the Source had told me was the Plot was very Dark Crystal and Matrix more than anything, having this week looked into those Mythos i surely can see the connections.

Such a waste. How could would it have been instead of the ridiculous flute scene, to instead get a scene which delved through his various experiments and failures etc.?!

i really like the idea of weyland somehow managing to transfer his soul to his company computer systems, very intruiging and totally fits with how delusional, and extremely ambitous weyland was. it also fits perfectly in with the cold, calculated mentality of the faceless "company" of weyland-yutani.

i do like the idea of bringing a.i into the alien saga, as long as it can be balanced with the xenomorph and it's relevance to everything going forward. also your ideas of the cave and even further below a cavernous structure is, with a tree of fruit is a nice reference to the garden of eden and adam & eve. ever noticed how the strand of dna kind of symbolizes the serpent/snake in it's coil? i saw some really cool artwork, depicting the small cup out of which the sacrificial engineer drank from, and black goo seeping from the urn to the cup in a dna coil.

i would very much like to see a sequel that shows a place with deep underground caves and cavern system, for which david has sole entry to, where he houses his facehugger eggs, and the film plays out in a similar style to that all-female horror called the descent. taking it back to pure suspense and horror, with cramped, dark dank environment, and the group of colonists, descending further and further down into this cavern, slowly being picked off by the xenomorphs.

the alien franchise is in a worrying place at the moment, what with disney acquiring part-ownership of twenieth-century fox, and the risk of the fox company considering rebooting the alien franchise. i feel a collaboration between ridley scott and neil blomkamp would have been the best idea. ridley has some amazing ideas, but maybe he needs to accept some real outside input and maybe blomkamp would have been a great choice for that.

i like alien covenant, but i do feel ridley withheld too much from the audience, like the deleted scenes where david reveals what he has learned from the black goo and engineer civilization, really should have been in the movie, also shaw being granted a audience, or meeting with the engineer elders, and recieving her answers, i personally feel was crucial to the movie itself and would have led to it being better recieved. i do feel ridley dropped the ball there, especially as we had followed elizabeth shaw through her whole ordeal in prometheus.

p.s sorry about the spelling and lack of capital letters in my reply, im using my chromebook which is hopeless because there doesnt seem to be no caps lock button (knew i should have bought a laptop for xmas).

The one thing i will mention regarding this Organism, the OT more so than the Pterodactyl one (although some Aesthetic can be seen) is that the Organisms Skin appears to be very close to the LV-223 Engineers Pressure Suits.

Its as if their Suits and the Black Goo have some kind of Link...

"Rich pickings indeed and based on the new brief from Ridders  John Logan comes up with, Shaw is the first one face hugged. Yawn."

Indeed i feel this has disappointed some, but others never liked her anyway and the biggest disappointment is that now a Crazy Robot Created the Xenomorph..   I dont think the Alien Franchise has Happy Endings and it should not.... and so i can only assume Dr Shaw would eventually not have a good ending, i would expect the route taken would be more fitting that these GODS, the Agenda behind Creation is FAR FAR away from her interpretations of her Faith would be, in that a Divine Being Created Mankind and Loves and Cherishes Mankind.

There was so many ways this could have been explored.....  people said Dr Shaw was a Bland, Boring and Naive Character, and Noomi Rappace is capable of much more...  But can you imagine the effect on a Woman who only has her FAITH left, and who wishes to discover these Would Be Gods for Answers... but what she discovers is Far from what he Faith Teaches, and Proves Mankind are insignificant in the grand scheme and her FAITH is a SHAM!  There is No Benevolent Place for us, No Paradise.

If people thought David had become unstable and crazy in those 10 years, can you imagine what REVELATIONS like the above would do to DR SHAW?

I put this in another Topic but it applies here also.

It appears FOX and RS had discussed near Back-to-Back Sequels, the draft was almost done if not just needing some final tinkering and putting to a Shooting Script,  Ridley Scott had announced plans to shoot the Movie about July 2018, with a release in about April 2019.

Then we had the Box Office Results and Criticism and surely FOX would want to take a Time-Out and Reflect on what happened with the Box Office and look at the  Criticism , because FOX simply at this point (July 2017) would not be willing to Bank-Roll Blindly a Sequel and ignore the Criticism and Box Office Numbers, because they would not want to end up with another Box Office Flop so to speak, which would leave them Dead in the Water, because Logically any sequel would Set-up the FINAL movie that connects to ALIEN which would leave them the Choice to abandon Ship, leaving those Answers to Alien a Mystery of sorts, and leaving us on a bit of a Unanswered Cliff Hanger setting up a 3rd Alien Prequel that would never happen...   Or do they Proceed with the 3rd Movie at the risk of it also not being a Success.

So FOX was put in a difficult situation..

I think this Topic is Irrelevant as of now with the Disney Take Over...  I think Disney would be in NO RUSH to make a ALIEN movie,  i think also the Actions of Blomkamp by releasing more Concepts for his Alien 3 Re-boot and then saying he is abandoning the Project are simply a clever piece of Marketing by him to engage Fanboys to make Videos and Topics on Social Media wishing that Blomkamps Project can get the go ahead.

If Disney see on Social Media etc that Blomkamps ideas are gaining a lot of steam as far as Fans disappointed that the Project may never happen, Disney could see the potential to make a Blomkamp style Alien Movie.

Ridley Scott's chances of doing his Project are diminished but it may not be too late, while Blomkamps seemingly Dead in the Water Project could have a slight chance of Resurrection, Ridley Scott's Prequels are by no means Abandoned, he has stated that with the ground work/set up down for a sequel to AC and then another to bridge the gap to Alien it would be Crazy to abandon this now.  I think RS best chance of getting his Project Green Lit by Disney could be to work on a few Disney Projects and let Disney see first hands what RS as a Director has to offer, then this could get RS very much in Disney's Good Books  which could allow RS to Plug his Alien Prequels.

daliens Yes, I am a big fan. And as a fan, I would have tried to just ignore those statements. But Ati decided to post them even though they don't have anything to do with Alien. I just had to comment on that. And the story about Villeneuve kicking Ridley Scott from the set tells a lot about Ridley's reasons to criticize the lenght of the movie and such: he wanted to have control. But he gave Villeneuve space, which is totally awesome, and it was the right choice: the movie is a critical darling, got 8 Baftas and most likely will get many Oscar nods. He should be campaigning for "Blade Runner: 2049": so it gets the additional box office push from the Awards season. Instead, he is bitching about how the movie is so f*cking long and so f*cking slow (his own words); and it is all right for him to say that because of course he wrote the script. Give me a break

@red0guy

I agree whole heartedly with what you say. Prometheus left open a wide range of thematic developments and they invested in a very powerful back story for Shaw which could have been exploited.

The child who suffers early bereavement, sets off with a faith based belief in the Gods unable to have children.

David the robot who suffered apartheid and was in  passive aggressive relationship with his maker.

Elizabeth heals David showing genuine compassion and yet is carrying the after affects of the pathogen insemination.

The platform to explore creationism whether mechanical or spiritual creative was huge. David and Elizabeth represented the two sides of the equation the perfect set up for both of them to journey.

The Engineers with their Paradise Lost narrative on LV 223 hubristic who themselves are only a part of the story.

Rich pickings indeed and based on the new brief from Ridders  John Logan comes up with, Shaw is the first one face hugged. Yawn.

Really????? Come on... Totally unrelated topic intended to provoke the many people here who are more critical of Ridley Scott's actions and all over the place talking. There are so many objectionable points in those statements and many news outlets reacted in the same way. And just try to tell any Blade Runner fan that the original film was about 2 replicants having a baby: good luck with that...

Also, if would like to continue to to post unrelated topics, I recommend that you tell us the story about the time when Villeneuve had to kick out Ridley from the set.

'You started this. You posted Ridley Scott's damaging, expletive-filled remarks about "Blade Runner" 2049".'

I did not and could not post 'damaging, expletive-filled remarks about Blade Runner 2049' because Ridley Scott did not make any damaging and expletive-filled remarks about the movie. Your misleading comment tries to make the readers believe this but the truth is that you are lying again.

'criticize someone who chooses to be...'

Ridley Scott did not criticize Villeneuve, that is claimed only by you. The truth is that Scott criticized himself, so you are lying again.

'your post about Ridley Scott's unfortunate statements did not belong in the Alien forum'

Next time you should read more carefully since the statements you call 'unfortunate' can be found in the comment section, not in the body of the article. In other words, you are trying to manipulate the reader, you are lying again.

To sum it up, your misleading actions can’t hide the fact that your comments are full of false statements.

7.5 billion Earthlings are very different. There is over 6,000 languages on planet Earth....can't even fathom what'll happen when we seed the stars.

Engineers probably have millions of languages and body types....In fact Humans are probably Engineers....just a different strain.

"these were simply the civilians of the Engineer race while the ones in Prometheus were the militant type."

Just as I thought. I know we were all expecting them to look like the sacrificial engineer at the beginning of Prometheus.

The ones from LV-223 looked more genetically engineered.

This reminds me of an old cartoon called exo-squad where humans have created larger and stronger beings via genetic manipulation and cloning. They called them neo-sapiens and used them as slaves on colonized planets. They were mass produced and this turned out to be a huge mistake when neo-sapiens rebelled against their masters.

Same thing in blade runner with replicants.

The look of the Engineers on Paradise will always bother me. I even asked Ridley about this when i met him and he explained that these were simply the civilians of the Engineer race while the ones in Prometheus were the militant type.

Still though, the black eyes and "aesthetic perfection" they went for in Prometheus did a whole lot better than whatever these Paradise dwellers looked like. I just found them very de-mystifying.
