Yeah it's safe to say the eggs were definitly PUT there by someone. . . As for the SJ, I'd say that the Queen we saw in Aliens, is possibly the chestburster that came outta the SJ all those years ago in my opinion. That would explain it's super intelligence at the end of Aliens!

That would totally fill in with what I was thinking that Ridley is using some of the aspects of the first Alien script that were later written out in Prometheus. I'm not talking about reusing the story which would be completely STUPID, but instead they're using some elements + ideas. In the trailer you can obviously see jars, or urns, in this giant monolithic temple-thing. Well if you look in the original Alien script I was talking about, look what happens: Script Excerpt Broussard is standing on a dusty stone floor, with a feeble column of sunlight shining down around him from the tunnel above. Around is solid darkness. He flashes his datastick around. The beam reveals that he is in a stone room. STRANGE HEIROGLYPHICS are carved into the walls. They have a primitive, religious appearance. Row after row of pictograms stretch from floor to ceiling, some epic history in an unknown language. Huge religious symbols dominate one wall. Spaced at intervals are stylized stone statues, depicting grotesque monsters, half anthropoid, half octopus. BROUSSARD It’s unbelievable! It’s like some kind of tomb… some primitive religion! Hey, is anybody there? Do you read me? Standard! Annoyed, Broussard yanks off his breathing goggles, and leaves them hanging around his neck. He takes a deep breath of the wet air. EXTERIOR - BASE OF PYRAMID - LATE AFTERNOON Standard and Melkonis are standing around nervously. STANDARD If we don’t hear from him soon, I think we better go in after him. MELKONIS Sun will be down in a minute. INTERIOR - TOMB - LATE AFTERNOON Face bare, Broussard approaches the center of the room, which is dominated by a large, broad pedestal. On the pedestal are ROWS OF LEATHERY URNS OR JARS, EXACTLY LIKE THE ONE BROUSSARD STUMBLED ACROSS IN THE ALIEN SHIP — EXCEPT THESE ARE ALL SEALED. He walks around the urns, studying them. They all have sealed lids. He shines his light on one of them; then he lays his gloved hand on it. He lifts his mask radio to his lips. BROUSSARD I don’t know if you can hear me, but the place is full of large bottles or jars, just like the one we found on the other ship — except these are all sealed. Also they’re soft to the touch. He peers more closely at the leathery object. BROUSSARD (CONT’D) Another funny thing — I just put my hand on it, and now there are these raised areas appearing where my fingertips were. EXTERIOR - BASE OF PYRAMID - DAY THE SUN DROPS BELOW THE HORIZON, throwing the landscape into gloom. Standard and Melkonis switch on their lights. STANDARD Let’s go. He attaches his chest unit to the wire and starts up. INTERIOR - TOMB - NIGHT Broussard is moving his light along the rows of heiroglyphs on the wall. They depict stylized drawings of strange monsters. He pauses to quickly change the film clip in his datastick; then he turns back to the “urn” he was examining — BUT NOW THERE IS A HOLE IN THE TOP OF IT. He shines his light on the floor at the base of the “urn.” There lies the “lid” — the stopper that had filled the hole. He picks it up and studies it. It appears more organic than artificial; the inside surface is spongy and irregular. Then he turns the light to the now-open “urn.” He bends over the mouth of the “urn” shining the light in, AND WITH SHOCKING VIOLENCE, A SMALL, OCTOPUS-LIKE THING LEAPS OUT AND ATTACHES ITSELF TO HIS FACE, WRAPPING ITS TENTACLES AROUND HIS HEAD. With a MUFFLED SCREAM, he launches himself backward, tearing at the thing with his hands. That would totally fit in!

@BellaisanAlien, Cool stuff! Thanks! But I'm not sure what you are trying to say with the lighting. I separated all of the images in the gif and have analyzed them. I also recreated the gif and slowed it wayyyy down. So there is a lot to say about this. First off, the very first image is a humaniod with its mouth open. You can clearly see the humanoids eye. Would you concur? Or anyone else concur?

I have faith it will be a good film. I also, sadly, think it is going to be a flop...only hardcore scifi fans seem interested. Very few people outside of those realms even know it is being made. Or care.

What? Does it mean that this movie is going to be a flop just because batman fans, who think every movie except The Dark Knight Rises is shit, don't find it interesting? I don't care about this, popularity doesn't make movies good. And yes, Batman hardcore fans are really like that. I like Nolan and Batman too, but, oh god, just look at them.

ShanePrometheus ForumUltimately a Disappointment ?
I don't think it flopping has anything to do with Batman[what does this thread even have to do with Batman?], I think it is going to flop because we are 4 months out and the hype train doesn't seem to be leaving the station. I think it will flop because from the sound of thing the budget is very high and it is a niche market film. Also, it is a tough summer market this year. I think the March release date may have been a better idea. I just can't see this being a summer Blockbuster even though I would love for it to be one [that is if it is any good, it might be complete shit for all we know]. Is there still a market for intelligent scifi films in the mainstream movie going world? Ridley Scott has had a lot of bombs in his career. Good films for sure but just box office disappointments, I can see this being another. Popularity has nothing to do with it till you are looking at sequels or funding for another film. This bombs I think they will not want to dump a ton more into another Ridley Scott Scifi flick. Which would be a shame.

RuthPrometheus ForumUltimately a Disappointment ?
I mentioned Batman because almost everyone expects this to be one of the best movies of 2012 (and the best of summer movies) because Nolan is genius for them. So fans (trolls too) are trashing almost every movie that's comming this summer. I agree about March release but I think there's enough time to promote this movie for general audiences (if it's PG13). Also, being a flop in box office could avoid the movie from making a sequel and that's good, because I wouldn't enjoy a sequel of Prometheus (but that's OT).

craigamorePrometheus ForumUltimately a Disappointment ?
First off.....while I am really excited about 'The Dark Knight Rises', I'm a huge Batman fan, my level of interest in it doesn't even lick the shoes of the Titan of obsession I have brewing in anticipation for a prequel to my all time favorite film, 'Alien'.....and besides, while I want it to do well, ultimately, I'm only concerned about its quality. Is the damn thing good or not.....? And to all of those Batman fans who feel like they have to prop 'The Dark Knight Rises' up as though its public standing versus other summer flicks affects their own meeger existences......who the hell bloody cares...........I hope they're both amazing..... Second....I posted the following on that chestbuster thread you mentioned and I think it's relevant to your concerns......... "......that scene is known, not just for its immediate shock on the audience, but its affect on the filmic landscape. There hadn't been anything like it before; it was unique and that simple fact, made it that much more disturbing and profoundly so. It's one of those scenes that stands alone, untouchable and untoppable.....you can bloody up these actors all you want, but it's almost impossible these days to bring something that different, with that kind of immediate, visceral and cultural impact. And that's not to say Ridley won't have something amazing waiting for us, but even he will have a hard time delivering something new like that, because you can't predict these things. You can't predict the impact of something like 'Alien' and, specifically, the chestburster scene. When it was written, when it was designed, shot and edited, people expected a reaction.....no one could have predicted the tidalwave it generated. I do hope 'Prometheus' is as successful; heck....I can only pray it's as good. It's always nice to see something as original and visceral with that kind of impact.....but I'm not expecting it, I'm not hanging on every scene..waiting for it, I'm not even hoping for it, because I don't want to place impossible expectations on something that looks as promising as 'Prometheus'. If it does possess anything that impressive, I'll be eternally impressed and smitten with it......but if I expect and anticipate greatness, then I darn well better be ready for dissappointment as well, at least the possibility....and I'm not ready for that. 'Prometheus' looks amazing, everything about it screams the fantastic and the intelligent so often lacking in contemporary sci-fi that we always hope for and rarely receive.........the chestburster scene IS legendary......don't anticipate legendary....sit back, enjoy it for what it is and maybe, just maybe we'll all pleasantly be surprised and have something to talk about 33 years from now we can all call legendary and in the same company as the chestburster and, ultimately, 'Alien'. Just don't go shooting yourselves in the foot looking for it........"

want-to-see-prometheusNOW!Prometheus ForumQuestion about the name Prometheus and other things.
i think the ancient earth idea is interesting. what if they went back in time, but we don't know that they travelled into the past until the end of the film like in planet of the apes. That would be a surprise.

L u )\/( a R u SPrometheus ForumQuestion about the name Prometheus and other things.
^^^ THAT! actually makes sense to me. Traveling back in time. They went looking for out begining! What they found could be our end! The movie Aliens VS Predator is set at modern day time. Weyland corp finds the frozen piramid. and determins that its been there for thousands of years. and that predator had been hunting aliens for thousands of years. If the 1979 film is set in the future, and prometheus is its prequal, then its possiable that prometheus sumhow by accident or on purpose gets sent into the past to find our begining but insted tampers with unknown things and creates the alien species or something to that effect. therefore creating a new species actually BORN on earth. ridley has talked about a part 2 already. Something tells me that prometheus isnt the prequal that leads up to Alien. but the part 2 will lead up to alien on the LV426 moon. just thoughts....

And some of us would love to see him totally ignore it. I'm in that group. I hate the insect/queen idea. Aliens is an ok action flick but it lacks all the creative vision and charm of the original alien.
Reply

Well there is a story that makes the queen an aberration that came about actually from the space jockey and wasn't part of the reproductive cycle until that happened.

While I can admit 'Aliens' is an action classic from the golden age of action in the 80's...it never should have been.......It is not the proper sequel 'Alien' should have had because of the genre change Cameron forced on his audience......Cameron believed you couldn't do another sci-fi/horror because Ridley had done it already......'Prometheus' proves already that Cameron short changed himself, his audience and his product by making that assumption.....'Prometheus' is sci-fi/horror, obviously and takes the story in an amazingly new and unique direction, especially when you consider where the franchise did go... As for the queen....looking cool, and I admit she looks very cool, does not justify a concept that conforms to earth biology and makes the Alien less alien, more familiar and thus, less frightening and disturbing......

the only reason that aliens was an action movie was because Cameron wanted to do something different, he did not want his movie to be the same as Ridleys and it was not his, or the movies, fault that the rest of the series followed in its direction. each movie should have really been in its own style but they decided to follow aliens stupidly. oh and i was always under the impression that aliens was the fan favorite sooooo why all of this hate all of a sudden?

Actually i think the genre change By james cameron was good because The story was different. alien was about a 7 space truckers having "first" contact with the alien species while in aliens it was a Recon and rescue mission with The marines though they got their ass kicked like the us troops In the vietnam war. Cameron himself, that the theme/concept For his aliens was vietnam where a far more advanced force gets Is butts kicked by a technological lower force, also because of Underestimating the enemy. The character pvt hudson is The display character of that attitude.

I understand where you guys are coming from about the films not being consistent throughout the franchise but the fact is its not LotR or Harry Potter where the movies follow the same pattern. Each of the Aliens films after Alien were all written/directed by different people so nothing was consistent. I would love to see Ridley do a whole other parallel story line for Alien(s) so there can be a consistent story line and direction.
Reply
craigamorePrometheus Forumscott really should acknowledge aliens
Exactly @Rick........I'm hoping for the same thing, at least for 'Prometheus' to be a new direction that hopefully lives up to 'Alien'. I know I can be harsh about 'Aliens'.......I'm not saying I hate it; the movie just isn't what it should have been in my opinion. If it had been it's own thing from the start, I looked at it through a completely different lens, but it wasn't original, it was a sequel and therefor beholden to what came before it it. It really is a strange state of affairs for this film to be in, because it isn't bad. I can easily call it an action classic, but where my issue comes in is the fact that a proper sequel should have been in the horror vein. To say he had to change things is a cheap excuse. No one twisted his arm on that point..... And I'm not sure why so many fans dislike 'Alien 3' either...given the situation behind the scenes, it wasn't a total cluster #*@*, but it also returned, somewhat to the horror genre and told a bleak tale that fits the 'Alien' milieu more accurately than Cameron's film. Now, that said, while I prefer 'Alien 3' to 'Aliens' for these reasons, I wouldn't call it a superior film to 'Aliens' either. I feel as though, had the studio and principal parties involved not so totally mucked things up in pre-production, filming and post-production, it had the potential to be so much more. It's that rare case where, as a film obsessive, I'm willing to look past some of it's faults and except that what we're left with is far greater a product than could have reasonably been expected given those horrid production issues.

uh - no! more like "Cameron should really apologize to Scott" i watched "Aliens" last night on BBC America, i watched it for nostalgia sake, and STILL could see what a commercial piece of crap Cameron produced. it was like watching a knockoff of ALIEN the thing with Scott and O'Bannon, (i feel) they attempted to make a slick looking b-movie, when in fact, they ended up creating a truly profound work of cinematic science fiction / horror art. detailed to a fault. whilst Cameron attempted to make a great film in his own right, he ended up making a b-movie knock-off of ALIEN, only in his case, he used weapons to suspend the story, rather than well written dialog or an original solid story structure and the "hive / insect" theory...what a load of bullshit, rather then keep the aliens - - well alien, Cameron had to dumb it down it's odd to me that most folks who "loved Aliens" tend to hate Alien3 i get that "Alien3" has it faults, but my god... at least they attempted to tell an original story with that they did like / love "Aliens" all you like, it's a good popcorn action flick, but suggesting Ridley Scott needs to "acknowledge Aliens" is like asking a master painter to acknowledge a xerox machine just sayin'.....

Not only because of 3 and 4. 90% of the video games currently made rip off Aliens to the degree that the entire space marine thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. 99% of the extended Universe stuff really sucks. AvP redemption just killed everything left. It is the worst film I have ever seen. And I have watched some horrible movies. I'd rather endure a stream of alien ripoff from the early 80's [Galaxy of Terror, Mutant, Creature, Star Crystal [which is amazing in it's own right] etc] then watch AvP:R again. Plus, Alien 4? Way way way worse then Alien 3 imo. I hate the mutant alien thing, I hate the crappy swimming aliens, I hate them spitting acid. Just god awful. It was like a failed comic script turned into a shitfest.
