Space Jockey's on Space Jockey Segways

I don't get it - why would there be statues of space jockeys in the movie? They do look like statues, on those pedestals.

pjr - Would you say there suites? well if they do go to a temple in the movie then they might be there, I mean there is the room with the huge head, why not have some statue's?

I wonder if this is the same tunnel/hall because it appears that Rapace is on a ramp in the older pic and it's hard to tell if she is on a ramp in the new one. Or, is the picture just taken at different points in the tunnel/hall? @Membrane I think this is the same opening. The older picture has the SJ's cropped out, and the shadow behind her is so dark that we can't make out any detail. She also looks further into the room on the old picture. The camera view has also shifted down and left some. I'm guessing the is the entrance to the starmap/SJ pilot room.

This discussion got me thinking. If these are statues...why would a species (I acknowledge the fact that it may be difficult to understand the thinking processes of an alien species) make statues of their bio-mech suits and not themselves?

that sj above her head is just a trick of light and shadow IMO....don't stone me tho...I might be wrong.....i just don't see what is the point of a hidden sj head lurking in the shadows...seriously!

Its not intentionally hidden, its just not the focus of the photograph. The obscured SJ (probably one of a pair) matches those on the opposite wall, so other than them being present, you aren't really missing anything by not being able to see them clearly.

I can´t help myself other than find this somewhat lame. Why would a technically motivated race put statues in such installation? Or, worse yet, a spaceship? We´re not in Paris. Or Washington DC. Looks like a b-movie plot trick to convey to the audience the feeling that they know something that the characters don´t know (there are SJ´s here!). Of course it could be some clever explanation to this, but I despair.

They look like the same place to me only in the second picture the focal length is longer compressing the distance. Shaw is standing on something tall very close in the foreground but that seems unlikely because she should still be small compared to the archway. The Spacejockeys are closer to human sized but that doesn't quite make sense because the large hall is probably the same size as the caves we see in the trailer and the humans are pretty small in comparison to those. 3. The filmmakers were doing some camera tricks with miniature sets and they allowed her to stand in front of one for the publicity shot. 4. The two shots were combined together to make for a more interesting picture.

BM it could possibly be that Shaw is shot from a high angle whilst on a raised platform. So the suits or statues are still much larger than her but is perspective based on the angle of the shot?......

I kind of lean toward 3. The photographer pulled her aside and got her and the set for these pictures not thinking about what it all meant.

If she was shot from a high angle I would expect the archway to be very large in the background.

I don't like that the jockeys are wearing boots....weather those are suits or statues....those boots....I dunno.....?......it just seems bizarre and so very wrong!

i suspect that the space jockey's as we know them are actually bio-mechanical space suits... the humanoid seen on the trailer; wears them...

those are definatly space suits..why would they have statues? that doesnt even make sense...those aren't suits of armor in a chateau/ definitely space suits that are not being used

but those boots.....dammit...they seem so man made!....all those jockeys need now is a fucking scarf and a cowboy hat!.....no no no!.....i am hoping this is fox throwing a red herring our way!.....

lol juxtapose absolutely right that is one of the first reactions i had..they look like my fuckin snowboarding boots or those rubber hunting boots duck hunters wear......lol a scarf..one of them has a wrist watch..i thought hollywood had more believable props these days

meh maybe the jockeys are humans..those are boots are very human...and again with the giant face being that of a humans....the annunaki are depicted as human..just larger than us..

I'll say it again. STATUES...why? Because Rapace isn't even interested in them. She's a scientist, a suit built by an alien civilization would reveal untold information about them. She'd open it up look inside examine the material they were fabricated from, also the size and everyone is flickering back and forth, "Oh maybe there are small and large space jockey's." Rubbish. Stop thinking that an alien civilization that is able to create life from nothingness is going to THINK like you. What's important to you may not be important to them. Do you really think that something that looks like a human is going to don a suit that's so heavy, and cumbersome. and totally obscures their vision? What if the entire SJ is a fetishistic image. Like the fertility figures of ancient cultures. It represents something to the engineers race, has some sort of value to them. Frankly it doesn't really matter, in a few months everyone here will know exactly what they are.

Ridley Scott has said that they are suits, and I'm betting, when not worn, the suits stand on those pedestals just outside the chair/map room, as they seem to be needed to sit in that chair and would logically need to be close to it. This image still looks fake to me but who knows. If it is real it was probably never meant to be cleared up to the point that illustrates a VERY lazy suit design on a blank platform. epwhere is the organic "grown" feel. It would be more bio mechanical to have the suits almost look integrated into the wall,"grown" into the wall. I guess I'm just nit picking. But again in the film perhaps the darkness and haze of the scene doesn't seem as "lazy".

A speculation based on a speculation ...every day more difficult ... :D ..i hope the movie and expecially the ending will not be a fight between noomi and charlize ... not dressed anyway ...

...or Shaw and Vickers become best friends for life.....that sounds lame....i dunno what i am even hoping for anymore...lol Actually i would like for both of them to survive....but somehow i doubt that's gonna be the case....sadly i think Vickers is gonna bite the dust....seeing as Noomi is rumored to be the main protagonist....I am actually surprised that Ridley let that detail slip....in Alien no one knew who was gonna be the protagonist? Back in the day i don't think that movie was very heavily anticipated....so no one cared until they actually saw the movie...

How can you want characters to survive when you do not even know their character in the film? Seriously.......once more, this forum is just adding speculation on top of speculations (from Frantz)

For the crew to take 5 years getting there, only to have their sole support structure destroyed, I can't see it as anything but deliberate! Shaw has to return to the alien ship "one last time" after it has finished rolling around in the dirt. Don't know about Vickers, she'll probably get crushed or something... I am dead-set convinced that David was on the alien ship when it crashed as well. Maybe he becomes a surprise asset to the next film? He might be the only one who actually knew where the jockeys came from (discovered in the star map), or at least the only one whose remnants could be deemed useful after five years when the next crew lands and tries to figure out what happened.

@ Mindbender Forums are made for people to speculate. Ridley has already stated that Noomi is the main Protagonist....Vickers is supposed to be the bad girl...but something happens to her in the third act....no one can say for sure what this change is gonna entail....does she become better or worse....we will have to wait and see. I just find it really odd that so much of the plot details of this movie is kept secret....yet they have already told us that Shaw is the protagonist....therefor she is the most likely candidate to survive the ordeal....that to me is a major spoiler....tho maybe the protagonist is not necessarily the sole survivor....assuming their is even a sole survivor?

that bring another discussion ....arent they focusing the attention a bit too much on Rapace ??? Every photo , every interview , everything ( almost ) is based on her .... she have even flashbacks ....with a father too!!!!! Are really Elba , Fassbender and Pearce secondary characters ???? we really want a Ripley 2 ???

I watched as Elba won a Golden Globe Award last night and I got my first "look and listen" of him. He seems like a "way cool" and down to earth guy to me, and I for one am very much looking forward to his role in Prometheus!!!

i really need to stop opening these threads. how do you know only 2 females survived. maybe the other crew jettisoned before. maybe the ship doesn't even crash. numerous possibilities if you use your imagination.
