The Engineer could simply be an 'Asshole' who when we meet them they feel they are so superior that they can torment us. It's easy to judge the way the crew will be greated in a human way.

""I just flashed on wizard of oz. What if the crew go to this planet expecting to meet God and what we find is disappointing. We find this engineer who is a selfish and fallible humanoid who played around with genetics and accidentally created us. He doesn't have any answers and makes lots of mistakes and wants us to worship him."" that suit pretty well

There's so much assumed in those articles without many quotes and I always hate taking the quotes literally. Just have to try and guess what they mean like when Scott "ruled out" the Xenomorph. Doesn't mean it won't be implied or the process isn't there. See now I don't know what to make of this "discovery" business in the Kate Dickie article. I hate that word because it assumes they found something on Earth. I don't see Earth anywhere in the film trailer. What's to say they didn't get a strange call from far away? And maybe the call wasn't even meant for them? Maybe the evil urns of chaos were for jockey-boy instead? Much like a gift from Zeus except we opened it.

I think the nearest plot to what maybe could be the correct one is something along the lines of. . . The Prometheus crew are sent to a set of co-ordinates light years away, with orders (but I suspect at least one of them has a hidden agenda/orders) to investigate a planet. They come across that ampule room and other similar structures, but they start tampering with things in there such as the urns and what's inside them. This in turn alerts Space Jockey's/Engineers to their presence, and they somehow mutate or infect the crew with a genetic type "thing" which maybe leads to a member mutating to a proto-xenomorph. This creature is then the first of a new species, and the SJ's aren't able to control or stop it. . . That maybe a crap idea but what ya'll think??

Frantz, all other B.S. aside, that idea of yours is quite good and I like it. I thought of that film {"The Wizard Of Oz"} recently as well in regard to Prometheus!

@Snorkelbottom I wrote this post to be thought provoking, not didactic, preachy or insulting. I hope you take it that way, and you pick up the spirit in which I intended it. Cool ideas Snorkelbottom. Although, folks on this forum often use the word “evil” when describing the behavior of the Alien or what might be the tendencies of the Space Jockey(s) in PROMETHEUS…why do y’all do that? Many or most of the active members on this site have expressed atheistic beliefs…or at least leanings. The fact is that, “evil” is at heart, a religious…spiritual concept, not a tangible scientific one. Personally, I do believe in evil, but I am at the very least a agnostic…and at the most a believer. As the ol’ axiom goes’ “One cannot have his cake, and eat it too.” One cannot NOT believe in an all powerful Creator…or God, and still believe in evil. If there is no God, then there is no known objective truth…therefore no good…and therefore no EVIL. This notion is a general tenant of Anton LaVey ‘s Church of Satan. This church does not believe in God or the devil…they simply use the name and image of Satan, whom they believe to be a fictional figure/character…as they believe Christ to be. In religious texts, the character of Satan does as he wills, when he wills it. And, in the absence of an Almighty God, with the ability to judge, reward or punish…why not do as one wills? ...except for a fear of temporal effects…i.e. legal problems, or physical danger, etc. It’s either one way or the other: A God…and there’s right and wrong…good and evil OR No God…and there’s only the “law of the jungle,” and natural selection. If there is no omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient God, then Man is not a creation, and has no soul. And is therefore, not an agent of morals or morality. He is neither innocent or guilty in his behavior. He simply exists and attempts to survive, as is his instinct…Just like the fictional Alien or Space Jockey. From what I have observed, many Science fiction fans tend to fancy themselves as scientists themselves, even if they have no formal training in the subject(s). All ya gotta do is read a few Sagan, Asimov, Clark or Heinlein books…and bippity boppity boo…a newborn scientist is born. We can’t have both ways…it’s all or nothin’! ~N

The Kate Dickie interview is very suspect. I don't think she would spill so much of the plot. The Daily Star looks like some sort of tabloid to me and are just making up stuff to fill out an article.

A creature as advanced and higher then us probably doesn't or wouldn't have a concept of good or evil as they'd assume they're so far along the technological scale, it simply wouldn't matter.

@ BM, wasn't dissing you bud, just talking in general terms. And I agree frame by frame analysing is fun, especially when some are sure they saw something that isn't even there or twist things round because they don't like what it suggests. But we've all analysed the trailer to death now, and its less than a minute of footage from, at a guess, a 2 hour film - there is so much more we haven't seen, oh so much more. But most of the threads and ideas here and on other forums seem to talk about mutants and proto-xeno's and humanoid Space Jockey's. All from what little we saw in the trailer. In a nut shell people seem to be expecting Prometheus to be - Big man in elephant man suit turns people into mutants and creates the alien. I don't want to see that, and I seriously doubt Ridley wants to make that. Ridley has used words like "Gods and Engineers", "Epic", "Its about Everything", "Vast in scale". We need to up our game, we are thinking too small, think BIG guys. What is the truly most epic plot that can think off.

If we cloned 'Dolly the Sheep' and her ancestors found us drinking beer in a bar 50 years later looking for answers what are you going to do? Flick peanuts at the sheep or buy the sheep a beer? It's all relative and depends on what worth or annoyance our journey to the Engineers temple means to their race.... Annoyance, thievery, disrespect, parental protectiveness or misunderstanding.

Just going to throw this out here... i think the space jockey's are the figures you see in space suits with masks, and ships etc on ancient Sumerian hyroglyphs, maybe Scott has done some research and thought of this. Reason being, well the hyroglyphs and the fact that they are the oldest civiliasation on earth and their language is still being translated. Just a thought.

@Spartacus - Thanks! Just seems like that'd be the attitude of a species that Ridley Scott would consider Gods or Engineers of planets. If we're thinking along the lines of the xeno-morph being created or born of mutation with the Prometheus crew, then surely that'd be bad. As it'd be very predictable "Advanced civilization creates deadly new species to destroy the humans and possibly search out humanity's homeworld, but then loses control of them and get destroyed themselves". . . I'd be pissed if that IS the storyline!

i dont think we can even exist without the concepts of good and bad ...and more we become civilized more those 2 concepts become more clear and important ... Btw there can be something EPIC like lord of the rings ....there can be something EPIC like Braveheart .... there can be something EPIC like Avatar .... there can be something EPIC like 2001 .... I doubt that we will get out of the theatre with new philosophical ideas ... i hope we will get out with the impression to have just saw a great SCI-FI journey .

@Snorkelbottom: What is bigger than a Satanic God who unleashes an army of demons on human? There is a thread here which is kinda hard to locate that discusses how ancient religions speak of a Heavenly God who creates human to be his worker slaves, and the humans are increasingly difficult to control being intelligent and all, God abandons His Creation. Don't we see the remnants of ancient civilization around the world seemingly abandoned in a hurry? Who wiped out the dinos? Why did the Mayan/Aztec civilization seem to vanish in an inhumanly short time? And if you ask the Egyptians today who built the pyramids, some of them would answer: "Not us." Maybe the Gods do not love us as his children anymore. He/They didn't expect us to be smart enough to go on an interstellar quest to find them. He is more annoyed than ecstatic when we reaches his/their home planet. When one of the crew messes with the DNA recipes, the Gods punishes us with the Xenos.

@Snorklebottom, Quote "Why would the crew go so far?" There has to be something remarkable that makes the trip happen. I'm thinking that a small amount of the bioform liquid is found in an artefact on Earth. This may contain the genetic code for humans and possibly a hidden coordinates of the creators homeworld. I'm thinking either: 1. Star chart is on Earth or a world that is close by where the artefact is discovered 2. Someone is infected with a small amount of 'Bioform liquid' which gives them knowledge; probably the wheelchair guy, who I think becomes the guy behind the 'S'

@Lyle Your Quote: A creature as advanced and higher then us probably doesn't or wouldn't have a concept of good or evil as they'd assume they're so far along the technological scale, it simply wouldn't matter. My Response: Why? Why would advanced technology make one life form “higher” or superior to another? This is the same kind of hubris that is currently plaguing the current scientific community. The prevailing concept seems to be “anything but God.” In my opinion, science should not be pitted against the possibility of the existence of a God /Creator. Science is in part the research and study of the physical universe. In your post you refer to “A creature,” by definition a creature must have a “creator”…yes? In the scientific community, the belief in a God has been twisted into a merely archaic, outmoded, tribal, and or ignorant point of view. They have “outsmarted” even God…because of intellectual growth. This could be the just the hubris or arrogance I have referred to. In the film FORBIDDON PLANET…something similar occurred with the Krell. As Star Trek’s “DATA” once said, “Believing oneself to be perfect…is often the sign of a delusional mind.” In my opinion, Atheism itself…is quite UNSCIENTIFIC. At the heart of all good science, you’ll find imagination…and an open mind. ~N

@Snorklebottom, I would love the movie to go towards darker territories of evolution & genetic mixing. What if we humans are product of God's little orgies? With various humanoids, alien-hybrids, and -gulp, animals? Upon hearing this, some of the crew go ballistic, and start a war with the Gods: Interstellar Battle Royale! If there is a sequel to this plot, there could be an Alien Invasion style plot evolving. I know it sounds like something James Cameron would do (except the orgies part). The original Robin Hood script that became the Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe had Robin Hood as the villain (!). When I heard Ridley Scott is doing a revisionist Robin Hood, I was excited. But alas, Universal turned it back into a rather conventional Braveheart-style movie. It could happen with PROMETHEUS.

@Spartacus, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS is a fantastic movie. But it stops short of any further discussion about contact with higher intelligence being. One thing interesting to note though that one of the Aliens look a lot like the Kid #1 they abduct. Maybe they absorb some of his DNA essence through a very rude series of experiments.

Take these three ideas... 1. Shaw pregnant with proto-xeno facehugger, facehugs SJ, Queen lays all the eggs. 2. Human mutates, becomes an SJ and decides to attack earth. 3. Urns become eggs (???) and the Alien is born, to be used against the humans. I find these ideas small. one ship, one cargo of eggs, thats not very epic. Instead try this... 1. Humans go to temple and steal stuff. 2. SJ's (yes plural) are woken from a very, very deep sleep. 3. 100's, thousands maybe millions of Derelicts awaken throughout the universe, each loaded with eggs. 4. The xeno is revealed to ancient, old than man. Now thats epic. BTW bioformer, or as I call it magic snot, thats not very Epic really.

@Snorklebottom, Your Epic Plot does sound like the original ALIEN only with a bigger budget. The original ALIEN has a very popular plot template for an adventure movie and it kinda resembles the plot of RAIDERS OF LOST ARK. Don't mess with God's stuff.

Any idea could be epic dependent on the treatment of the subject matter. I think the center of any epic is the ability to touch the core of human existance in each. The movie will only be as epic as its ability to emontionaly connect to a person regardless of if it focuses on orgins of human life or Shaw and Halloway's reenactment of Twilight. Point is, I think we can all point to movies that dealt with epic topics that failed to be epic and on the other end, movies that dealth with mundane topics that felt epic.

@Neurion - I wasn't stating that it IS the case, I just think that a civilization that is so stupidly advanced technologically just wouldn't have any care of what actions/intentions are decided to be good or evil. Also if a society is more technologically advanced, they tend to have that attitude. I.e humans assume they're more important in the universe then say cattle. That's the type of analogy I'm getting at :) Also. . . How about this turn on the story - What if the proto-xeno's were created by the Engineers to be the ultimate and their best ever creation, but humanity or the Prometheus crew somehow tainted their creations by doing whatever they do in the film. . .??

I don't think Ridley was trying to hide anything in that quote of his. It's a movie about god in a manner of speaking, if you're looking for something bigger than that you won't find anything. I translated "It's about everything" into "it's about us", not literally everything.
