Could the Cocooned Man still be Shaw's Dad??

I'm thinking he discovered something about the aliens when Shaw was young; (thus the flashback) then takes a mission to the Engineers temple. Shaw follows similar career and unlocks some of her Fathers secrets when she's older, Weyland are already aware, but needed Shaw to unlock it. The second mission then goes ahead with Shaw, Vickers, Holloway, etc .......... Shaw find her Father cocconed by the Engineers in some sort of stasis?? Maybe they need a woman to help them to propogate their species so just put the Dad on ice?; there only seems to be the two ladies alive at the end???

her father was a precher according to some infos she gave ...
we have three things that dont go well togheter
1-Shaw had a father , a precher , and we will see shaw very young.
2-Wilson character is played only in flashbacks
3-wilson is the cocooned man
1 go very well with 2 ...but not with 3 :p

@Biomechanic: Interesting plot. Damon Lindelof wrote something similar sounding in some of the episodes of LOST. Parents involving their children in generational experiments, secluded secret compound where ungodly experiments are conducted ala Island of Dr Moreau. It could happen.

Wilson said his role is mainly in flashbacks -- or could it be a nightmare type flash back of shaw's?
But how would it play into the concept of first encounter with life forms?
This role deffinitely is a quirky conundrum.
He was right when he said early on that his role was a important one.

@ BM: Nice idea. But doesnt fit with "its about everything". There must be a higher plan. We have to think BIG. Ahm, but still a wonderful idea :)

If he comes into contact with Alien DNA or becomes infected that could cause some nightmare flashbacks? Perhaps the company take him away or he leaves because of the discovery..............

I agree BM but perhaps the spacejockey is that white worm rather than liquid nanite, a parasite. Takes on characteristics of the hoste or morphe the hoste dependent on level of threat, etc. i.e. no threat big blue guy, threat mohawk guy jumping from top of vehicle....

Makes a lot of sense with the burrowing into Holloways skin. Then his crew members taking him back for emergency medical treatment; not following contamination protocols like in the original Alien, but being a lot less suspicious of doing so as there is no obvious parasite :) until it's too late........

well almost now it fit well the "only in flashbacks " and the "small but important role"
so Bio we can say hes not the bald guy of the trailer ..but then who hes ?

What is the alternative that Elizabeth has flashbacks of her father playing hopscotch with her and that relates to the movie because Elizabeth uses her skills in hopscotch that he taught her to entangle the aliens and save the day.

yeah if this film was titled lost. so take your "it could happen" and please be gentle as you shove it back up your reared where it emerged in the first place.
why is it so hard for people to think when making up theories? is it that fucking hard to be thoughtful these days?

Good ideas BM, I'm with the idea of 'The Company' knowing about the potetial of the liquid but I can't see them having any great quantities of it. My thoughts are that Shaw's Father finds something which the company get hold of and there is a small amount of the liquid; not enough to do much with, but enough to understand how powerful and remarkable it is. Thus the need for the Prometheus mission, which was probably proceeded by the mission involving Shaw's Dad (now we know, thanks Frantz :)). Thinking he was coming back or not being of right mind he leaves his daughter behind parentless. Mum either goes with or died when Shaw was born; out of the movie as no need for her character.

We are not far behind the Sci Fi my friend, sometimes Truth can be as unreal as Fiction.
Look at the money our Goverments spend on chassing Oil, Minning for it and also on Wars etc etc.
That money infesting into Robotics and by now we would not be all that far of Real Terminators by that i dont think as real as in the Movie i,e as far as Skin that Bleeds, and Sweats etc. But the making a actual Humaniod Robot that looks Human and moves about like one is not so far away.
As far as creating life, again if we spent as much as we do on Finding Oil and Wars, i am sure by now or soon we could engineer many new creatures only Morale High Ground Stops us. Technically we are not far away from being able to modify genes to Create a Person and create every detail about them, change skin colour even Blue or Green, make them Taller.
Its not behind Science to create hybrid animals, take a Hedgehog i am sure if Science wanted to we could find the genes that create the Spines and change them to Fur, and thus Change Hedgehogs from spikey but cute criters to love new cudley pets.
Free Fuel again Science is not far of created renewable fuels from Water, why are we not well because they would make Oil worthless and if Oil is Worthless well the Worlds Economy and the Power that certain nations hold due to it would collapse.

Umm, perhaps Shaw's preacher of a father is shown in flashbacks to build the foundations of her character's beliefs? You know, those very same beliefs that will be shaken to the core during the events of the movie.
Come on guys, this is a Ridley Scott movie not a Michael Bay movie. There will be actual character development and thematic elements as well as 'splosions and crazy plot twists.
