I'm with Hammerhans but I think the higher power is in the trailer! Think of the big UFO as the Olympians leaving a gift of urns (Zeus-style) for Prometheus (the jockey) and you'll see where I'm going.

Just a little thought. If SJ's are meant to be the bad guys in Prometheus, why in Alien did the Derelict ship give off what Ripley's "Mother" programme deemed sounding more like a stay away signal then an SOS??

Speaking of the shape of the derelict, while it's fantastic looking, it flies in the face (no pun intended) of aerodynamics! Maybe they are so far advanced technologically they can easily overcome the laws of physics and just be very artistic with their designs.
ReplyJockey2016Prometheus ForumThe Derelict Compass?Jan 14, 2012
Aerodynamics only applies if they're in an atmosphere, and if the ship is designed to use its own shape to hold it up. This ship clearly relies solely on its own propulsion to keep it up when in an atmosphere. At that point, it could be a flying cube and it wouldn't make any difference. That, and it no doubt spends 99.99% of its time in a vacuum, where shape makes absolutely no difference whatsoever.
Our airplanes stay in the air because of the wings, not the engines. The engines merely allow the wings to do what they do by giving the plane speed. The aerodynamic shape makes the engines more efficient by reducing drag.
Bear in mind that the ship apparently uses some kind of gravity drive, since there's no external indications of primitive rocket propulsion like the humans are still using at the time.
That brings up the question I mentioned in another thread.. we don't even know which end of the ship is the front, much less how it flies! :)

I believe Giger addresses this, hold 1 second here...co-alting... Yes. the best we know is that he made it in the shape of and in the spirit of some other living Alien creature !!!

oh, and if you explore my link properly you will discover it is similar to his painting "Necronomicon #5" and the "creature" I refer to is an "Internecivus Raptus".
ReplyGehirnPrometheus ForumThe Derelict Compass?Jan 14, 2012
Even the design of the ship makes it look like you could spread its legs.
If you can't have sex with it, it ain't Gigers'! LOL

I hope I did not come across as being arrogant about it BIomechanic, I just wanted to display for everyone what I discovered when I asked myself that same question a long time ago...
Great thread man.

"Awesome",
& of course,
Spoken Like Eddy Murphy as "Bowfinger",
In The Film, "Bowfiinger".

Holy Crap, I never noticed that, Tx Biomechanic.
Replyattack1441Prometheus ForumThe Derelict Compass?Jan 14, 2012
The Derelict has many hidden connections in the old work of Giger. Besides the Illuminati connection, there are many other examples where the Derelict is portrayed in a sort of an unexpected/obscure way. For example, in Giger's painting "Vlad Tepes", the infamous character is portrayed to the right, almost "nailed" to the head from a certain figure to the left, which appears much more malignant than Tepes himself. The latter figure is controlled by a central phallus-woman, with a huge black cross which emanates from the mouth of a disfigured baby, which has the Derelict close to its mouth. It is really tiny and you need to find a high resolution print of "Vlad Tepes" to see it, but it's there. Makes me wonder who/what the heck is that figure to the left of Vlad. Go figure.

@Biomechanic Hi, your comparison is interesting. Is interesting also why so many Egyptian influence in the argument and the artwork of Alien in general. Probably exists a discussion about it.
ReplywalterhillerPrometheus ForumThe Derelict Compass?Jan 14, 2012
what relation does it have to the free mason compass in particular? all compasses have that shape. *facepalm*
another guy trying to be "insightful" sigh...
and there's no air in space so why would it need to be aerodynamic? sigh x2...

Sorry that looks like a blatant composite.
EDIT: But it does have authentic looking components.
ReplyRipley Clone 8Prometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
If you right click and then view image. It pulls up the larger image. It is then obvious its not a composite. The forums shrink the image.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
yes it look fake but i dont think the background is fake ...is the same photoshop composition/editing of the newspaper photos of some time ago . Are set photos heavily retouched ...
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
Yeah It's not the size or resolution it's the lighting difference that doesn't look authentic in my opinion.
ReplyGehirnPrometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
BAHAHA...look at the arm badge. WEYLAND MEGA----
Still can't see the rest but this will start another battle.

The suits look like the statues. As the suit covered engineer when he entered his chair, what is the use of such suits, or maybe it`s a kind of suits for critical situations to take them on fast...

No composite of any images I have seen yet. Which is still intriguing because it is an obvious Photoshop. I work in PS CS5 and yes this could be done easily. You can even see halos and noise that have been attempted to be covered up just above her head and all through the darker area above her left shoulder.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
however cannot be all fake ..is a photo of noomi we havent see yet and the background cant be fan made imo
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
What is really weird though is the detail of the suit.
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
Okay so it does look like a composite but it may not be. The Entertainment Weekly stuff looked fake also. I think the knee jerk reaction comes from the fact so much is revealed in this and that just seems wrong. Like Frantz said the image of Noomi does seem new and real but the background... I just don't know what is going on there.
Reply 1234567890Prometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
Her image is totally real. The Weyland Patch does not say Mega though, it looks more like it is a staff patch stating what their position is, like Mechanic, Cook, Pilot, Doctor (IE: The Dharma badges in "Lost") I'm just thrown off by the obvious PS work but it looks like both pieces can be from something real. Maybe it was PS'd by some hack who tried cleaning it up or enhancing sharpness or contrast.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
mega ...if is mega it match perfectly with the photo bio posted some time ago about the hat of Janek ...is Weyland Megacorp or something like that
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumNew Revealing Photo.Jan 14, 2012
Mindbender, Janek has something that starts with an M on his hat also though. I think it is the ships name but I don't think it is Magellan.

Ah I didn't look at that detail before, his shirt definitely says "Weyland Corp"

Hmm that's not a sun either that's a ringed planet they use in the logo.
She has pepper spray that means they knew of alien rapists and were prepared : )
