Mekja-Tek It's my opinion that the derelict style ships are going to turn out as living organisms. I say derelict style because I don't think the one in Prometheus is the same as the one in the original film. We've also heard rumours of a giant head piloting a ship. I don't believe this is tha same giant head that we've seen in the trailer, but it will be something more gigeresque.

I like the concept. I also doubt we will see the "Engineers" and the space jockey is entirely another species. If the Engineers left clues on Earth for us to find with coordinates then it had to be with a purpose. The planet they land on in this film could very well be a test. We end up failing due to the corporations mentality and it triggers the aliens to be "depolyed" in some manner to kill the human visiters. (NOTE: if time travel is not part of the movie then the Aliens already exist based on AVP and Predator films.) The ship is then to head back to earth to wipe out our race. If we had passed then perhaps another evolutionary jump would occur evolving and enabling us to use the ship and Engineers tech to continue to meet the engineers OR perhaps to become Engineers which would complete our evolutionary path by arriving at it's pinnacle... meaning the engineers died out but put everything in place for them to be reborn thru us or another species they had created. HOWEVER, maybe David(The Android) does pass or evolves into the Space Jockey or into an "Engineer" and takes control of the ship carrying the eggs then crashes it to save Humanity. Thoughts?

One more thing to mention... David(Androids) are synthetic and already in a way bio-mechanical. One would think they'd be the perfect candidate or what the engineers had hoped for.

Nothing in the AvP films is alien canon - i don't think we have any constraints based on the appearance of aliens on earth earlier from those films. r.e. the OP, i like the 2001 style 'testing your creation by making a trip'. my own theory (or my own idea for a scifi :) ) is a bit different - that the K2/K3 level civ has evolved to seed and HARVEST planets, like the way we grow crops. (you use time-dilation to speed up the evolution.. you seed many planets, return after the round trip and harvest the new biomass..) the alien DNA is something to do with the ability to rapidly assimilate the biomass and turn it into more of yourself + helpful new adaptations. I also picked up the SJ/Engineers as separate comments - i've read official comments that we will see (unrecognizable Alien), SJ,and "something else"...

I think everything that has been officially released has dropped hints along the way on purpose. All the ones you mention and stuff I don't think they thought people would pick up on. I personally think the xeno will make an appearence at the end of the movie, but it won't be the star of the show. This is a great wallpaper btw. ...great thread....except Giger will hardly be involved....but his vision for alien will be rehashed and he will actually do some murals on a wall (whoopy!!)...i have a lot of faith in this new guy who is creating a lot of the concepts ( don't ask me his name?)....u know Giger is not the only artist out their ......but his original concept is still gonna act as a starting point for all the new stuff we might see in Prometheus!

I agree with that completely and thank you for the Groovy desk art Theusprom. I think whenever it may happen it'll only be for a few short seconds, but oooooooh my lord, what glorious seconds they may be.

Ridley might have even been teaching some apprentice while they filmed it...he made reference to how incredibly impressed he was with 3D technology as well, and even said he would never work without it again, that it "opens up things" he can no longer not have in his films, and I mean, they ALL must have been learning new tricks as they went along and passing them on to others in their respective circles.

the only thing that terrify me is the view of some cliches that will suck up time ... -the couple ...she get pregnant of a monster ..he will mutate ... -the company suit ..she have an agenda ...she is the villain -the android with philosophycal problems ... I KNOW that Scott Cinematography will be the best I KNOW that Special effects and artstyle will be the best I KNOW that acting will be the best (fassbender , pearce, elba , theron , rapace is enough) i fear that Lindelof guy ....

@ Spartucus oh cool!...i though u where not gonna be pleased with my response at first....but u seem to have an open mind!.. Anyway.. as an artist myself...i work mainly with concepts...i personally am not great at creating new concepts...i have been in the position where i have to recreate a concept into a 3d format....but a lot can change in the process... I work with the conceptual artist during the whole process...so if u change certain minor things due to technicalities...they usually don't mind...This new guy is a huge fan of Gigers work..he literally worships him...so give him a chance....he did say that it was the most ambitious project he was ever involved in and that Ridley loved it! In the end of the day...even if Giger himself did not lift a finger to do any work on Prometheus.....every artist whom did any kinda work on Prometheus has to follow his concept to the T....he is still the grand master behind all this....so involving some new artist to add to it...i think that is fabulous...so it is a exciting combination of Gigers original work and whatever this new guy can bring to the table....from what i have read so far...Giger is not objecting...Ridley is keeping him in the loop!

Juxtapose I have a great respect for what you do. It takes a special ability, and an ability to get along with everyone no matter how annoying that might be. It also takes great patience and attention to detail as well as and most important of all IMO a creative heart and mind. "Creative" That's a hard word to pin down and define isn't it? One person's creativity is another person's shit. Sometimes these people can even be "in charge of you" when it comes to work. I pride myself on having an open mind "Jux", Just as I believe a lot of the other guys I have gotten to know on this forum have as well. You're in good company.

thanks...bear in mind that i do not create CGI monsters for movies....I create art for games...lately mostly i-pad/i-phone games...often it borders on graphic design...interfaces and buttons and logo's....but I can do a cool character or monster in 3ds max...lol I can relate to people who are involved in that industry tho....but they are way more challenged than i currently am ...i work with a programming partner...so it's a 2 man team...a cgi character is usually created by a team of artists....i bet Prometheus will have like a hundred artists assigned to it...make-up, sculpting, animatronics...cgi...u name it! And yes.....it is often very difficult to please my boss/partner...we often clash...and what one views as shit can be seen as a masterpiece by another....u don't have free reign...if u wanne get paid u do as u told and follow the ideas....Luckily I have personal projects...at least with those I can go ape shit!...;)

You surely know I did not mean it that way. I have always maintained "from the get go" that I have enormous faith in Ridley Scott at this point in his career and especially given this particular subject matter. I will accept if we don't see one. As I have said I am in no position to complain, and I consider this project a GIFT to us all from a man who has dedicated his life to the process of entertaining others, and "THE TOTAL RUSH" that must give him that he has stayed with it all so very long. This is his vision, not mine. and that would be my ego talking to assume I could righteously complain if there were NO "Internecivus Raptus" type creature in "Prometheus".

Lindelof was responsible for the star trek remake and there were some enormous holes in that script. The whole business of Spock throwing kirk of the ship and him landing on an ice planet where low and behold he just happens to bump into a Spock and Scotty in the same planets geographical area let alone the same planet in the whole of the cosmos was just to hard a leap of probability to swallow. I know that you have to sacrifice some plausibility for story's sake but this was just daft. I guess star trek first and foremost is entertaining sc fi for a general audience but I hope Lindelof has raised his game for this and raised his game substantially.

Sorry but plausibility and Star Trek do not ever go hand in hand. If you enjoy those kinds of sci fi stories then you have a lot of belief suspension going on to begin with. As a non trekkie, this was the first piece of Trekdom that I wholeheartedly enjoyed. Therefore, I will not downplay his writing in that movie.

I have a shed load of Gnomon dvds and constantly compare the artist at the cutting edge of 3d graphics and concept design and neville page is good . He can look a bit samey at times and his work can be easily identified once you get used to the artists style he like a lot of concept artists use Z brush, and Photoshop, maybe 3D Max amongst others and creating in these deep programmes is relatively easy once you understand the basics . A good quick feature for realising an idea is the mirror tool in z brush and its basically a sculpting tool that mirrors exactly what you do creatively at bit like a butterfly effect with traditional paints but in real time so you draw an eye and the mirror function allows you to see the opposite side of a face with exact proportions without the need to draw the other side, a great time saving device for sketches and of course there's a multitude of manipulating effects in edition to the above mentioned . In these extensive dvds by gnomon you can see the creative process in great detail from a huge variety of top graphics company designers many of which are linked to Hollywood and the film effects process. And if you can afford it its well worth purchasing a programme like Mud box, or Z brush and get those creative juices flowing as there is plenty of online tuition and specialist dvd's dedicated to providing the established artist or budding beginner for using pro spec design and manipulation tools.

In any event, it's entirely possible that the story was pretty much nailed down when he came on board, and most of his work was in tweaking the dialog. He has secondary writing credits, after all.

Well yes agreed but even so the fact remains that this universe ie the alien universe has a much more discerning fan base and you cant afford to make those kind of blunders or whoa betide you will be ripped to shreds from the fan base community. I did enjoy star trek but from a script point of view it was a bit shit.

Having thought about this Lindelof-factor, I start to trust him; he said himself, that Ridley told him what he wants to do and his job is to realize that vision as accurately as possible, so that should sound pretty good for us fans. Remember that the projects Lindelof worked on ended up being weird and too vague only when he worked woth JJ ABRAMS. We are lucky he is not involved in Prommy, then we would really not get any answers.

I have a large collection of Gnomon dvds and several on Neville page. He's not a bad artist and he uses Z brush, Photoshop, Mudbox, etc although he's stuff..( like a lot of artists) is easily recognizable once you get used to his style. The techniques he employs are good especially the mirror function in z brush where you can draw an image and have a butterfly effect like face design/ sculpting... one half of a face and using the mirror function to get a perfect symmetrical image with the ability to manipulate from that point onwards... very useful for sketch work and quick ideas. I urge any budding artists from beginners, to pro spec artists,.. who may or may not be experienced of these tools to check them out and check out the gnomon range of cutting edge graphic artists tips and Tutorials,... ( there are plenty online) to get their creative juices flowing. These programmes are very deep and of a pro spec nature, therefore are expensive but the creativity they allow is limitless, and the only limits are your imagination. You can even have a 3d model made from the images you create if you so desired. For those interested in the graphic/ creature design world check out Gnomon artists DVD'S, and Z brush.

What would be the reason to create us? I guess we can look at is the same way a scientist would create bacteria to study. Or the reason why humans are trying to make A.I.. which ultimately would be to serve us.

There could be tonnes of possibilities, I'm thinking that humans are created in order to help the Engineers exhist. Some schools of thought say that humans will eventually be either extinct or A-sexual as naturally more females are born then males. My thinking is that the Engineers created humans so that they can have a cattle to hoste themselves ..................

>>"Some schools of thought say that humans will eventually be either extinct or A-sexual as naturally more >>females are born then males. My thinking is that the Engineers created humans so that they can have a >>cattle to hoste themselves " sounds like my seeding/harvesting idea.. (see my thread 'interstellar travel & evolution') the jockeys seed planets like we plant crops, (time dilation speeds up growth when they return from their POV), then harvest the biomass, but not just eating it as food, but 'breeding into it' hence the Alien style "take-over"/"absorb" DNA.. so they don't just copy themselves, they adapt and evolve absorbing fresh adaptations on their seeded planets. A-sexual - faster or more optimized eugenics perhaps. the extreme scifi 'takeover DNA' is like becoming a 'super-male' (impregnate anything). these ideas fit with the official comments "what we must ultimately become"

JeffomorphPrometheus ForumWhy is there a room with a big head to begin with?
Good question that I hope we find out. Was it built to pay homage to the creator? If so, who was it built by? There have been script rumours such as : The head is a representation of the Engineer, some sort of leader for his civilization, a great scientist who has a cult following by his people. Probably because he masters the biomechnical technology that helps his race prevails over the universe Is it a piece of technology, or a simple statue? Is it an informational placard to identify the room and ampules as belonging to a certain being. Will there be other ampule rooms with different giant heads?

What I find pretty interesting is that the guy who wrote about the head representing the Engineer and him having a cult following by his people also wrote : Anonymous said... A guy I know who's seen stills of the film has described to me what the Engineers actually look like. Huge, muscular, blue. Think Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen, but really tall. Just in case you guys were interested. I don't know how well that will turn out, but it's good news that they don't have elephant trunks. 30 September 2011 07:34 Dated Sept 30th so way ahead of the trailer.
