Too beast like. I like my Aliens spindley and less muscular. The more animal or Dinosaur like the less creepy and weird. Thats my preference and to each his/her own though...

I see what you mean Herk... Would that however mean that the Jocky should be sitting at a different angle in the derelict? Also the egg chamber must then be on its side as well. Interesting. Im thinking that the derelict could fly in a similar stance to Bobo Fets ship in StarWars.....
Good pic up Herk.

Yeah but im just wondering towards the end of the trailer is the Derelict not falling to its resting position? I thought thats how it looked with one of the characters running from it as its settling into position? At about 50-54 seconds into the trailer..Granted thats if that ship is the Derelict

How much do I love the original 1979 ALIEN film? Ahhhhh…let me count the ways… I can’t say that I have a favorite film, because there are so many genres…and I have too many emotional and psychological appetites for any one picture too satisfy. As far as science fiction horror, ALIEN is number 1, with ALIENS and THE THING coming in at 2 & 3.
I saw ALIEN for the first time when I was 12 years old. My very “strict” mother was under the impression that my very “laid back” father was taking my 9-1/2 year old brother and I to see ROCKY II. Of course, my brother and I…had other plans…
1. Choose a theater that was playing ROCKY II and ALIEN.
2. Select a showing of ROCKY II that would undoubtedly be sold out.
3. Once we arrived at the theatre…play down ALIENS “R” rating to Dad.
4. Play up other family member reviews.
5. Insist that Mom won’t care (an outright lie).
Success! We saw the movie.
The fallout…
Dad got chewed out by Mom for takin’ us to a…and I quote: “R rated movie…with a naked space-girl, and a monster that looks like the Devil.”
My younger brother and I got our asses handed to us by Mom for conning our old man.
Final Analysis: It was all worth it! Even the nightmares…and night terrors that ensued for years after…were all worth it.
Two weeks later…after giving the next door neighbor kid a 4 hour blow by blow reenactment of ALIEN, the three of us went “back to the well”…and took a shot at askin’ my old man if would be willing to take us to see it again. We held our breaths…
“Sure!” he said, and I quote: “I loved it when that little devil came outta the guy’ s stomach.”
So he took us back for another dose of vitamin A. Of course, this time we got to see ALIEN and ROCKY II, so we didn’t have to completely BS Mom.
On the film itself…
I remember actually feeling cold for the whole two hours.
I remember watching the build up to Brett and Dallas’ fate with my hands over my eyes…peering through my spread fingers.
I also remember drawing crude pictures of the beast from memory, collecting ALIEN bubblegum cards…and building ALIEN jigsaw puzzles all summer long in ’79.
Goodtimes…
Still my favorite Sci-Fi Horror film of all. And…still in my dreams from time to time.

@ Neurion On Dreams...
There is definitely a psychological and an emotional devices that come with watching Alien at a young age, initiated in the way of the warrior; forced to playing your demons. I have dreamed of being chased by aliens quite often. I can certainly relate to the imagery of Alien and an obsession I had with it even though it terrified me. I never grew up in a religious family so I could say that the closest thing I got to knowing about the devil was from that movie. I drew it constantly... what they hell were those things on it's back? Every time, Alien came on TV I would get a better look at it and store the picture in my third eye. I remember those bubble gum horror cards in the late 80's! I used to us em as target practice with a pelt gun. (which was really a pulse rifle)
Possible negative effects of watching the movie...
Having an over active imagination
Spending countless hours on developing artistic skills
Being blessed by white magic wizards
Squeamish a bit to watching child births, looking into open large leathery object and getting enemas!
Good times indeed!
Never got to watch Aliens in the theater, so Prometheus I hope will make up for that!
It has been and is a joyously torturous wait to see this film. I wonder what kind of effect it will have on our futures.

On wet dreams...It makes me wonder a little about the devices in Alien upon our psychological and emotional responses. I have never had one, like androids with implants! Doctor androids would be the best to give enemas. I know I'm a little squeamish about child births and enemas? Being raised in a Non-religious home has led me to ponder a lot on the nature of things and immorality. Watching Alien at such a young age with such a vivid imagination has initiated me on the path of the space cadets. Or perhaps I have just been playing with alien demons and white wizards? I remember those horror bubble gum cards in the late 80's I used them as target practice with my pulse rifle. I never got to see Alien or Aliens in the theater so I hope Prometheus will make up for that; especially after this long joyously torturous journey. Wonder what it will inspire for the future? sorry about the embellishing

Which was scarier than the black and white versions of Alien on TV.

Spartacus what "Mass of body parts".... Parker is dead on the floor and Lambert is dead also with her leg dangling and swaying as though she is either hung up on something, or is in some strange possition where she was left after the Xeno killed her.
I think the sex thing was filmed so as to heighten the terror and make the mind fathom the true horror which is occuring.
As I said before, why on earth would the Alien even know what sex is, being an asexual being.... It would be like an animal from Earth trying to cocoon an Alien for the fun of it.
Think you guys are reading too much titilation into this.
There are a heap of deleted scenes here, one could argue that Bretts death scene also has some seeming sexual connatations.

I recently watched a documentary, I forget witch, and In that documentary, I think it was on the commentary "ON" wing of the Extended extended version, I actually saw a wider angle shot of that same scene.
In it, Lambert's Leg is CLEARLY dangling there in the after math of that encounter and she is DEAD DEAD NO HEAD !!!
I was flat out wrong !!!

I think what a lot of you are missing is rape is performed for a number of reasons besides the obvious. A lot of them has to do with control and dominance. It is done by psychopaths and maniacs and is the basis for a lot of horror and crime movies and TV shows. I think this scene is suppose to infer a rape to add another level of psychopathy to the alien.
You might say it's like a dog humping someones leg too. That is not natural and not something you would think an animal would do if you lived a sheltered life. It is basically Inter species rape. Like most normal people though we try to ignore it. It is not a polite or pleasant thing to discuss. It is embarrassing when it happens although just like other embarrassing things some people get a real laugh out of it.
Also I think it was mentioned that this alien was made from Cain and very well could have sexual desires.
It just is what it is.
Having said that I can't see why Prometheus would even try to answer this question.

ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumBiology Of The Alien/XenomorphDec 12, 2011
This is all very good Snork. The AVP movies dabbled in this with disasterous effects. Too complicated and no audience for it. The Alien is a thoroughbred creature with a very simple life cycle but with a massive problem when it comes to survival. It needs another creature to survive. So isolate it and it dies out which means it cannot live on it's own. So when compared with what we understand as evolution it does not fit in. Given that it must, using our logic and what we know of nature, be a by-product of something else.

Yeah not too original really, and they've fed us this view through the info they've released... There's more to the story for sure unless they really stress the David being a friendly Bishop-type android and possibly the surprise survivor/hero idea that's floated around.
ReplyEnderPrometheus ForumPrometheus and AndroidsDec 12, 2011
My theory involves Shaw being the secret android, i think it would be too obvious if it was Vickers, Scott has too much invested for that. There are screen shots of Shaw's flashbacks to when she was a kid. I think these are memory implants to make her think she's human. That whole theme worked well for Scott in Blade Runner and it hasn't really been revisited since. Just a thought!
P.s wasn't the trailer meant to be out today???
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumPrometheus and AndroidsDec 12, 2011
Which makes me think that Shaw isn't the android. Ridley will know that his fans may suspect that very link of implanted memories from Bladerunner, and thus will avoid such an obvious idea. Think about from a writers point of view - you want to keep your audience guessing and second guessing, not figuring out an important twist within the first five minutes.
regards the trailer, thats what I heard, but as of yet nothing. But the days not over yet.
ReplyMicro changes in air densityPrometheus ForumPrometheus and AndroidsDec 12, 2011
Good thought Enderwiggin. I cant help thinking that Scott is going to have to go radical on this to get away from the last couple of Alien failures. I reckon on earth the scientists get it wrong and go looking for something that isnt there. Instead they find a race bent on destruction but are blind to it (Being Scientists) and dont recognize this until the last minute. By then they have sent out a signal haling their wonderful discovery and the greedy company sends a ship with mercenaries and a driod to recover the specimen or whatever. i reckon this droid might be Ash or an earlier model Ash who then does the dirty but in fact survives being the only one to ID the xeno hence the tie in with Alien and his/the company knowledge of LV426 and the eggs.
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumPrometheus and AndroidsDec 12, 2011
Yeah Micro that sounds reasonable to me, so you're thinking Prometheus is heading to LV426 and thats the Engineer homeworld? Am I picking you up right?
Snorkel I dont think that idea is obvious at all, particularly since nobody had come up with it until now. Also it ties in with the Alphabet android Theory.
Replydb73Prometheus ForumWhat are you anticipating in PrometheusDec 12, 2011
'Alien' like atmosphere and tension.
Lots of gruesome Alien-esque deaths.
A deeper more epic plot/mythology than the original film - The Prometheus title & the idea of 'engineers of space' hint very strongly at this.
Freakish Gieger architecture & creatures (obviously)
