Just popping by while taking a break from writing. There's been a lot of ALIEN films on tv lately, ALIENS being one of them of course.
I like ALIENS, but to me it just doesn't have the proper 'feel' of the ALIENverse. I guess it's in how the creatures are treated as kamikaze attackers and it's a matter of record how much I hate the entire mediocre idea of a 'queen' alien.
The saying goes "Unless you can do better, shut-up."
Well, I've started MY version of 'ALIENS' (with a different title of course) and as it's a short story, it'll be coming up to completion fairly soon.
So, yeah, I'll put my work up against Cameron's and let you, the Audience' decide.
But anyone expecting Ripley, Newt, etc. are in for absolute disappointment.
This isn't a revision of Cameron's work, it's an Original Work set about 5 years after the events of ALIEN: Manticore but doesn't involve that ship or crew in any way.
CHRISTIE: You in for another game?
It is pretty funny. Doesn't change my liking the movie.
cuponator3000 - It's available on ebay.
You are welcome and I'm glad you like them.
Cerulean Blue - Great topic! And great question as well because it includes another question: Is/Was David able to control this 'defensive mechanism'?
Ingeniero - Profound and thought-provoking work again!
Ok, let's do it! :D

JOHNER - Just for colouring.
*Smash cut to Ripley's Chamber:
As she suddenly awakes, eyes wide, breathing hard.
She has been sleeping in the same position she was before: Squatting in the middle of the room. She still weara her collar and cuffs, but in her cell the cables have been removed from them. She looks about her room, recovering from the nightmare. With a somewhat fatlistic look, she settles back to sleep.
*In the Mess Hall:
Christie, Call, and Johner are still at their all night pool marathon. Crhistie makes a couple of impressive bank shots. Johner grumbles, throws some money on the table as the last ball clicks in the pocket. Call takes a big swig -- not her first -- from Johner's thermos, makes a face. She tries to stand up, takes a spill over her chair. Others laugh.
Call - Jesus, Johner, what do you put in that shit, battery acid?
When I look at that image of the unrecognised pharaoh I instantly think of Guile from Street Fighter lol

Maybe its the attitude stance, and Guiles tall hair that looks like similar to a Pharaoh Headdress Crown
Great topic Starlogger. I left out that I agree with your quote I cited below.
"He isn't necessarily being "evil"...only dead set on a task at hand, the way all synthetics are supposed to be."
David 8 knows the difference in between right and wrong in the same way he understands two different types of tools or two different sizes of screws. I don't think he is evil but can perform that way if directed or if he goes insane (synthetically). No feelings nor mercy ("Nostalgia is the enemy of science").
daliens, I read the story in the link you posted above. Very tough.
Ingeniero that's an interesting understanding of Hell.
I'm not sure if you read "Other people" by Neil Gaiman. There's another frightful description of Hell.

I'm going to skip this one too.
"...the ultimate maturation of the engineers' direction if not their literal fate. Through the virus / Xenomorph as glorious synthesis and poetic culmination of the species. And an amusing biblical one at that. Though not quite linear due to my own inheritance..."
What does that mean?
Thanks for another great post Ingeniero
I always thought the Derelict Engineer in Alien was the first pure birth of the bio mechanical Xeno. It all adds up since the Xeno takes on its hosts characteristics. When an Engineer is all suited up in the flight suit, it is biomechanical.
The first biomechanical Xeno we see is the son of Kane. Unless a "queen" was born from the Space Jockey and laid all those eggs from the derelict ship...
On the other hand the Deacon emerged from a suited up engineer and it does not look at all like the suit of its host. Is there any chance the Deacon is actually a "queen"? There must be some important point in showing the Deacon at the end of Prometheus.
I agree regarding a book of David 8's drawings Davefried81. Thank you for the kind words.
Fantastic example Dark Nebula. Thank you so much for the image above.
To me, it looks closer to one of Giger's early xenomorph designs.

"He isn't necessarily being "evil"...only dead set on a task at hand, the way all synthetics are supposed to be."

Hell, in my understanding, is the total removal of mercy. Walter confirmed in Phobos that he does not feel anything in regards to emotion..."a human insecurity" is what he said.
David 8 was designed to project emotion.

David 8 is an emotion advertising sign telling you of something he doesn't own.
I believe David 8 is emotionally sterile underneath the emotional facade he projects to navigate the humans around him towards task completion.
In the fact that David 8 has no mercy...he is Hell walking toward you but a great asset if it is your task he is working on.
Sorry, friggin quadruple post!
ngeniero Dang that is a good catch! When are we going to get a published book on David's notes. We need it..NOW
David 8's notes regarding forearms' development:

See notes above; C.2.) “show a transition from curiously unmodified forearm skeletal structure to a more fortified one where mass is transferred to reinforcing lateral ridges.”

You are most welcome Cerulean Blue.

I agree Lawrence of Arabia and hope we see the military Engineers (LV-223) again...and I do believe we will.
I assume the Engineer suit is biomechanical due to the adhesion to Engineer skin and the ability to delivery needed nutrition for thousands of years in hypersleep.

I can't help but notice the similarities in between the Engineer suit and aspects of the biomechanical xenomorph.

Was David 8 able to harness the technology the Engineer's use to grow/develop their suits and incorporate it into his organism?
Glad you posted this! I have done a pretty fair amount of studying and research on the Engineer suit. I swear I am not crazy if I see the Engineer suit resembling the Big Chap Xeno markings? Between the rib cage, the forearm pictures posted it is almost a perfect fit. I always thought the Derelict Engineer in Alien was the first pure birth of the bio mechanical Xeno. It all adds up since the Xeno takes on its hosts characteristics. When an Engineer is all suited up in the flight suit, it is biomechanical. Now I am ranting! But yes...the Engineer suit really does look like it has Big Chap characteristics.
TYVM!!! I love the suit!!
Oh my goodness, I hope the spammer advertisement is not coming from me? Damn Engineers & their meddling!! HAHA!! Thank you all for your thoughts on this topics, as I hoped I was not the only one who thought about this, way too much!!
No I don’t think so, like every human being engineers are also mortal like everybody and like everybody they also commit mistakes because humans are prone to mistakes. Academic Writing Services UK
thanks for taking the time out to do this !! (again)
i love all these details it is what makes the universe so special to me
thanks
that second gif of the lurking Neomorph reminds me of those cannibal psycho monsters from The Descent films. Awesome films

Aww, so adorable
Hox: I agree with your explanation of how a body acts blah blah but dude looked like a cartoon. I don't like my horror movies to look like cartoons. I don't like "animation."
Gotta love the Neomorph dance move and the Xeno "Don't touch me" stance.
I just popped in while taking a break from ALIEN: Manticore, and where the story is at right now, tech plays a major role, yet doesn't overshadow the Human aspect, actually right now it's used in ways that complement and demonstrate the Human aspect.
I love tech as it lends a nice 'zing' to things, allows possibilities for stories to occur, and can also very nicely present a snapshot-overview of the character of a given story universe...in a manner akin to a 'fingerprint'.
Double-edged blade though as if you let tech get out of hand, it can overwhelm a story and make itself the centerpoint.
When it comes to tech in my works, I'm pretty knowledgeable, and always look things up. But if/when I get stuck, I have hubby to turn to and as he makes his career in technology across multiple branches of it, he's a wealth of information, and able to help me work out hypotheses/theories regarding purely fictional tech toys and stuff. :D
Smart weapons/ammo is in development today, and while it's still early-stage, it's performance is very impressive.
Cost remains an issue, so for now it's likely to remain special-application ammunition (Sniper).
IFF Personal Safe-Beacons and combat-weapon modifications relating to such is something that the US and Canadian Militaries are working on developing. The idea is good, but it requires a lot of refinement as yet, and also exhaustive testing to ensure it doesn't negatively impact weapon reliability.
The problem with the rifling article, is physics, as that bit was written by someone who plainly has never fired a gun in their life.
If you triple the bullet velocity, you triple the recoil effects on the user, and the operating mechanisms of the weapon. It also reduces barrel-life and generates MUCH more heat per round fired, due to friction between projectile and barrel.
That's just plain Physics, and there's NO way around it short of post-firing boosting as I mentioned regarding gyrojet-type self-accelerating ammunition.
Most people think recoil is due to the exploding propellant (gunpowder) and the emission of gasses from the muzzle. That is a small part of the recoil, the majority is from the bullet's velocity and travel down the barrel.
Equal and Opposite reaction, right?
Some folks point to electromagnetic acceleration weapons as a 'cure' for recoil. (Gauss and Railgun technologies) and again, they are just as bad for recoil as their gunpowder counterparts, even with the projectile magnetically-suspended to keep it from contacting the sides of the barrel.
The Scope information I think the writer might have lifted from some Scope manufacturers, as there are rifle scopes nowadays (actually five years ago) that will do the same things as described above. ;)
So, I give that writer points for ferretting out that tech-tidbit. :D
So... please correct me if I'm wrong but we don't really know for sure that Walter is dead right? We never actually see David kill Walter before he gets on the Covenant ship? He could have temporarily injured him like he had before without knowing it. Walter has been "upgraded" right? He very well could be alive on the Engineer planet. Just a thought. I could be wrong. I've only seen Covenant twice. I might have missed a scene or hint that confirms Walter's death.
Thanks for these awesome behind-the-scenes shots!
Lawrence of Arabia Honestly I have never been very nitpicking about the contamination issue. As for the black goo, I don't think anybody on the Covenant is aware of that at all.
