Way to assume lol I tolerate different opinions but when you guys are just plain hating or misinterpreting the film, I'll speak up. I would say you are part of the group that posts pictures of the bridge that Ridley's brother committed suicide on as your way of saying you dislike the film. I've never attacked anyone for having a differing opinion. I'm disappointed dk didn't like the film as I'm tired of the incessant and undeserved hate this film is getting. I understand some were expecting a different Prometheus sequel but to say Covenant is bad is ridiculous. You don't sound like you like others opinions either, as you are trying to bring Ati and I down for simply wanting more from Ridley. You're insinuating that I am less than you are. Please, take your childish behavior elsewhere.
Michelle,
You are quite the enjoying read. Thank you much for all your work and contributions. You should DEFINITELY be involved in "the Industry".
I hope he get one more film for his prequel trilogy, but two seems like a lot especially with how strange the narrative was between the first two movies. 1 More movie to connect it then put the franchise on ice for a little at least till some one with promise revives it.
Lawrence of Arabia Exactly: everybody is entitled to their own opinion. But you are part of a group that doesn't tolerate different opinions. This group is even attacking users who actually liked the movie, like Daszkowski, just for posting information that is in the news. You guys are right out from a George Orwell book.
Super clever lol Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if dk doesn't like Covenant, that is fine. Getting all butthurt about it isn't. I still think it's a fantastic movie. That doesn't mean how I felt about the film is invalidated either. You're just looking to troll and drag everyone down to your level. Please take your childish behavior elsewhere.
Ati It is not the first time that you try to bully me suggesting I should be banned from this forum. As for attacking and ridiculing Ridley Scott, I never did such thing. I actually take offence when someone try to suggest he is to old or that he should retire, etc. IMO not even 10 Nolan and Villeneuve movies can possibly match the brilliance of just two Ridley Scott movies: Alien and Blade Runner. However, all this doesn't mean he won't make a bad movie. You cannot make everybody think like you, man.
The Covenant crew acted, to me, like real people in a moment of crisis. They weren't expecting anything of what happened to them. These guys haven't watched Alien or even know they are in a horror film. These people are mostly civilians excluding Lope's security team. Humanity is fallible and I think that's the point Scott is driving home and why David believes them to be inferior. There are exceptions like Daniels and Ripley who can cope with these circumstances but most can't.
Lawrence of Arabia Starlogger I guess if you want the old dk back you need to send him to Rekall (from Total Recall) so they erase any memory of having watched Covenant.
I'd like to give it a go :-) I'll prepare a paper lol
Thank you for featuring me in your post Ati, it's an honor :-)
I agree with Starlogger, I want the old dk back.
Smart characters make for boring movies! Always 2 steps ahead of the audience.
"Don't open that closet! Probably a monster in it! In fact, Let's get the hell out of this haunted mansion and meet at the local Starbucks for a frap."
IRaptus I concur. I've enjoyed the journey thus far and it would be a shame if his story was rushed or compromised. I really hope Fox let's the artist do his thing and that THR was just shaking the cage.
That Lithograph is amazing! ...I Wonder how 'limited'?
Thanks for sharing!
Lawrence of Arabia I agree. I think the rumour that fox were going to re-evaluate the future of the franchise has frustrated a lot of us fans.
Prometheus has grown on me in time, and is now probably third behind Alien3 and Alien as a favourite. In time I think Covenant will do the same. I still think that after Awakening we will look back on Covenant and appreciate/understand it all the better.
I do hope that FOX just take a step back and trust Ridley Scott's vision though.
I really hope Scott gets to tell his story as intended and gets to do at least two more films. Prometheus and Covenant are amazing films that are so much meatier than your typical horror/sci-fi films.
I want that lithograph!
I'm glad I'm not the only one to enjoy (and understand) what Ridley's doing with the prequels :) Sorry guys for being a bit melodramatic but the incessant hate coming from some of the fans is overwhelming sometimes. Like, instead of looking to see what Ridley's trying to portray all you hear is what you didn't want. I'm glad we aren't getting Neil's Aliens 2 as I feel it would dumb the franchise down as opposed to Ridley embracing the legacy so far.
I love these pictures. although, some of them are just a bit to futuristic for the alien universe.
Alien 3 revived the franchise after the genocide from Aliens. Alien 3 had a sort of medieval sense of isolation and in means of confronting the Alien, it was as medievally good as GoT. The dog alien was way better than the ant queen. I liked this movie since the first viewing in theater.
I enjoyed aliens, its just not really what I would call a great movie. I could watch alien 3 about 20 times and each time I would see a new religuiuos referance, or philisophecal question.
Asbjørn it could have been much more stuff if the movies was longer, some fans are asking for more. Without the "fancy effects" it would look like district 9, did you find that even a better story? Blomkamp is frustrated and as much I understand him he should come nowhere near the Alien. If he has a good story let him made a good sf movie out of it.
Totally true, Lilly, there are people who think Lambert is stupid, others claim that the soldiers in Aliens are stupid, then there are the Alien Res haters, etc. A member mentioned here some months ago that the stupidest character of the Alien Universe is the queen from Aliens.
@Lilly (Svanya) Blomkamp might not be the right choice, but was trying to say that Scott is burning a lot of dollars on fancy effects instead telling a good story. AC did not feel real to me at any time. Charactors where behaving like they where in some wierd reality show. There where way to much stuff going on in AC. Felt like they where trying to recap the last four films in 2 hours.
That's really cool, thanks for sharing! I'll feature this.
I agree, I think if Alien were released today a lot of people would complain about things like bringing Kane aboard, etc.
Aliens is a moron movie. I mean you cannot even look for flaws because there are only flaws. I only liked 1 minute of it, with the aliens swarming in the dark when the colonial marines entered their nest. Man, I cannot watch Newt screaming again. So terrible.
Prometheus was imaginative and interesting. But Covenant is beyond dumb and undid anything remotely interesting that the series could have carried on with. Will not buy. Sadly if even Ridley Scott can't do the Alien franchise right, it just needs to die. I hate saying that, but now it's done. It's dead. There's no recovering from the failure that is Covenant.
I loved Alien Covenant and when it was over I felt the urge to see it again, unsettling and dark and creeping evil, lovecraftian.
Joylitt how on earth can you put in the same phrase AVP and A:C? The box office and imdb ranking are not entirely relevant for the value of a movie, especially with such active haters around.
@dk you are disappointing me! Where is the bright eyed, positive, glowing and beaming pure "Alien" fan that we knew back when you signed up for this forum? You've become a cynic in a very short time!
Bring back the old dk! ;)
Do a google image search for Museo Della Specola in Florence Italy. Those anatomical wax sculptures were an inspiration for some of the specimen's and drawings in David's lab. According to Connor O'Sullivan of Creatures Inc, they were also an inspiration for the musculature and bone look of the proto-xenomorph.

Oh...And the humans taken from Earth 2,000 years ago...Some are still alive on LV223...Long term experiments.
And the Engineers depicted in the cave painting in Prometheus, weren't pointing to where they came from, but to where we came from!
Michelle - That was amazing to read. Would of been perfect for me and what i want from the franchise. Touched on the most key and interesting areas but linking them to us and our history. This is what i am most interested in.
Definitely agree Aliens is the worst of the bunch. I really cannot even sit through it any more. An epitome of the "Big 80's".
@Chli
I am a great fan of "Person of Interest" and I loved the back story fill out and motivation which wasn't distracting but gave great depth to the characters that "didn't move" as well as having characters in real time go through redemption arcs.
IF the prequels had not been made on the hoof you could have taken two/three characters leads and two three co leads and really expanded the universe.
One very simple device would be for the believer character to find evidence in one of the tablet locations of Engineers and a history of tampering and one of the crew arrives on lv 223 and finds one of their ancestors was taken and responsible for the break out of the mutagen making the stories symphonic and interconnected. Take some of the earth mythos stories and bring them alive in the stories. Ebola could indeed be a strain of the Alien Pathogen introduced, by accident, by the Engineers on a visit which turns out to be responsible for the death of the Shaw characters, mother.
The simple bit is the Alien is the result of the Pathogen the much more challenging element is to create a really strong interconnected mythos, without ever revealing "God" which in a secular society becomes a distraction. But so many of the religions origins could be tied to the story rather than the cursory star maps. However the centre of the morality tale indeed the centre of the Alien saga is to harness the mutagen and so Weyland Yutani can and must play that role rather like the seeming good of Samaritan in P.O.I.
Curiously in my idea the climax is the believer Shaw through sacrifice echoes the later Ripley but in a much grander way destroying all by her sacrifice and one can interpret the final pages that she found her answers. But with the arrival of the marines it marks the beginning of what was to come and reached its summation with the real Bishop in A.3.
You can make an alien prequel series with the alien barely appearing but instead explore all the themes it raises.
@Cerulean Blue: Thanks for the kind words. :)
Thanks for the photos, those pins look awesome. An ORIGAE-6 pin with a red star, interesting...
If you allow me... It looks better this way:

Bmickey I agree with you on many of your concerns but.......unlike Alien 3 these characters are SO BAD and unrealistic in Covenant that they won't age well i'm sure. It seems Ridley has put all his eggs in the Android basket and people are sick of the other actors becoming space faring chimps! Not to mention more than half the film is a rehash of what's done before. Ridley has just lost touch and his pride and ego have helped sour his spin-off prequels by not grounding the STORY and being pretentious about it. Can he be sat down and scolded or does he even give a hoot since he's pumping out movies like bowel movements. Like Ripley not trusting Bishop, I am very very weary of Ridley doing anything but focusing on Fassbinder at the cost of everything else. My numbers are just a guess but if Fox hoped to reach Prometheus numbers via box office or digital sales they are a long long way off. What would another flop from Scott accomplish for the general audience out there?
Not cooked for me. Bring on the next one and get back to the Engineer storyline.
No, you are definitely not the only one who thinks this Jay Johns.
Ridley's movies and Alien3 are at the top of my list. Love em. I had to make myself like Aliens after seeing it in the theater, but it is so dated in that cheesy 1980's Rambo action movie genre that I find it hard to watch now.
Alien 3 got back on track to the horror that Ridley and Co. created in the original, and the assembly cut made it even better. Resurrection never quite worked for me, so I ignore that one, and those awful AVP things.
