In the words of Douglas Adams:
DON'T PANIC
We're simply speaking of the other franchises for purpose of comparative analysis regarding state-of-situation regarding the ALIEN franchise, that's all.
So, take a deep breath, chill, and don't worry about it it's not a primary narrative-shift, merely comparative-analysis.
More and more these days the ALIEN franchise is more and more where I choose to stay and dwell within. It's far more Interesting than any of the others, it's complex and realistic and exists in a vast galaxy where Humanity is really only JUST beginning to take it's first steps into the dark and empty spaces between the stars.
For me, the opening credits of ALIEN, I always keep coming back to...the music, the visuals..the MOOD and tone of it...it's something special, beautiful and dark and elegantly understated.
Whenever I start to feel like I am drifting away from what ALIEN is...I rewatch the opening, and that gives me back my footing.
To me, ALIEN is not about the Creature. It's about Humanity facing the darkness that it's entirely unprepared for. It's about trying to retain Humanity when facing mind-bending horror out in the vastness where NO help exists nor could ever arrive in time.
It's about the very concept of that word; A L I E N.
This is what makes this universe special, and why it stands apart from all others, gloriously understated, darkly elegant, quietly horrifying and deeply thought-provoking.
And I love being here enjoying it alongside the rest of you.
...and if anyone knows how to reach out to Big Dave, please do so and extend to him all the Love and Best Regards we have for him.
I know I am not the only one worried about him.
What in the Sam HILLLL is ahhhh going on here!!!!

Star Wars, Star Trek, the Orville show????????!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOw did'nt we all just agree not to sashay and banter about all these other NON ALIEN SHOWS!!!
This is how I feel right now!!! Can't talk about Alien most of the time on this chat....and then I get beat over the head by RS himself!!! telling me how great RBW is and why we should like that flaming dumpster fire of a pile horse SHITE!!!
WELL NO MORE!
Now I know there has not been a lot of news about the new prequel but that does not mean we just start bringing up Star Wars.....you all know how bad the last movie was....it was soooooo bad (AND I WILL WATCH JUST ABOUT ANY SCI-FI MOVIE! ANY!!!!!)
I had to fast forward through 95% of the film...only 15 minutes was barely watchable....now back in the day I used to watch it but not no more!!!!!
That is all some woke nonsense BS!....OHHHHH THIS JUST BAKES MY COOKIES!!! coming here and we cannot get together and be sensible about ALIEN STUFF!!!
BAKES MY COOOOOOOOOOOOOOKIES!!!!!!!!
Time will tell with The Orville
STD and Picard though...as bad as things got with SW, it was never the absolute travesties that are STD and Picard.
SW turned on it's fandom, attacking them...and they learned a valuable and expensive lesson.
CBS-Paramount...they seem to be deeply committed to The Stupid.
Bad as SW got, I'm willing to hear out the apology as they work now to rebuild the relationship with the Fandom.
CBS-Paramount has openly stated they don't give a damn about the ST fandom.
Blackwinter-witch Wars and Trek have been out of hand for a long time. I think The Orville was on the right track, but not sure if anything will ever happen with it.
At least they didn't mention Star Trek...
A franchise I have resolutely and forever walked away from.
As bad as some things in the ALIENverse are, it's nowhere near as horrifically asinine as STD.
How dare anyone!!! HOW DARE THEY MENTION STAR WARS AROUND THESE PARTS!!!!
This is ALIEN country around here.....now lets not have any more of that "Star Bores stuff" being bantered around!!!

In Australia all Star Wars content is via Disney Plus. As Disney Plus seems to be geared towards family entertainment, I'm not sure there's a place for some of the Fox catalogue. At the moment a lot of it is available through Foxtel (Australian cable service) which also airs HBO content.
Ohhhhhhh my it is just going Round & Round in here!

I know we can work it out though!

BWahahahahaahhaahhahhahahhahahaa....
WTF!!!! LOL
Okay...ORIGIN is in trouble.
Some folks want to read it, others think I am violating 'canon' LOL what there is of it...
Let me know what you think:
YES or NO to finishing it and publishing it.
I am leaving this work's fate in the hands of YOU, the Audience.
and if RS has an issue with my perspective, he can go f**k himself up the ass with a nuclear jackhammer.
RBW is absolutely fucking dread-awful.
I very recently watched all of RBW's eps in order, one after another.
I am seriously considering suing RBW's creator for compensation of the time wasted on that shitfest nonsense.
RBW is...it's a criminal waste of a person's time.
I reach beyond.
I spoke of carbon and Silicon based life as well as Hybridization.
"I will say this; The world that gave rise to the Alien was a world entirely outside Human scientific experience or even the most extreme and fanciful hypotheses/theories.
The world gave rise to Carbon and Silicon based life, which in time hybridized in many--but NOT all cases--giving rise to a planetary biosphere and ecologies that are...very challengingly ALIEN.
It has taken enormous work to put a foundation under it...going all the way back to the origin-point of life on that world...and it didn't involve the Engineers whatsoever, I assure you.
The above isn't a 'spoiler'...consider it a Primer. :D"
In contemplating 'where' The Alien came from...I built a world, and an entire planetary Biosphere.
All of which 'reverse engineered' from The Alien.
WHY does it have the Omnicorrosive liquid?
WHY do facehuggers have the ability to secrete acid and burn through a faceplate?
WHY does The Alien have such an Alien life cycle and Ovomorphing?
These and about a thousand other points--I am NOT exaggerating--needed to be answered.
Not that anyone really cares...but I will complete ORIGIN and let YOU, the Audience decide from there.
Frankly though, I expect folks to follow the Narrative that David created the Xenomorphs and time-travel allows him to be The Space Jockey.
Whatever...NOT my problem. I will finish it, and leave it to the Audience.
Now, about the fucktard...and this is the nicest that I have to say about Cameron...
Cameron's a hack...at best. Avatar, he ripped off battles of Native Americans vs US Army (Battle of Wounded Knee) and dressed it up with visual Fx.
I am Metis, Half-Blood Native (Blackfoot) and we see right through Cameron's crap.
He STOLE our history and redressed it to be 'Avatar'.
Terminator, he stole from Harlan Ellison.
Cameron's a thief, and a pathetic wanker-boi with an ego that just doesn't stop, and Avatar is so deep in the financial hole there's NO way it can ever be profitable.
Avatar is absolute garbage, pure and simple...it's a hate-crime vs. science fiction and Native History.
RBW is trash.
It's not original, it's not unique, and people are waking up to the fact that it's a parasite off other works.
RBW was a failed effort by it's creator to ride all the way to the Bank on RS's name.
For your consideration.
The ORIGINAL trailer.

The walls of the 'egg cave' are identical to those in the chamber above (a result of having re-used the set). So either it's part of the Derelict or an Engineer complex like the pyramids on LV-223. (And Ridley talks about the bomber thing on one of his commentaries from memory).
Either way, the similarity to an Alien hive is only very superficial.
Good idea. Make it a community in a large space station, claustrophobic, with little need for CGI.
The original is much better. It doesn't retell the movie and shows just enough to make viewers interested.

About a delay with getting another Alien movie. I honestly would rather have them abandoning the prequels instead of getting another movie about David. Sure they could do another one if they have more about the Engineers, well-made human characters in the script and on-screen, not about the android, and make sure that David didn't create the Xeno. The last one is probably the most important thing right now. It’s sad that it has now become about damage-control.

“You don't have to bitch about it too because it doesn't check all of your personal fan boxes.”
The thing is, people should be allowed to say if they don’t like a TV-show, movie, or whatever it is, right? My point is, if someone makes for example a mug especially if they go commercial about it then they should also be able to handle that people might dislike it. As soon as you get outside you’ll hear different opinions and if you can’t stand it then maybe stay away? I don’t say that he is dumb or bad, but he should be prepared and accept that everyone will not agree with him.
“Should someone write a story to appease the masses and cash in or a story he/she wants to tell? All out or a compromise?”
No, but be prepared for the fact that not everyone will enjoy it.
BWW
You are right about AR, I think that is one of the things that it did wrong. Actually they mentioned exactly that at a podcast when they said that what they disliked about it. One of the hosts put the comedy-thing as something that he disliked. What's hilarious about that episode is that no one put anybody down for disliking it, that got me laughing. :D
Daniels as being an unfocused character, I can see that. Maybe that was why I didn't really understood her character? The problem is that I got to understand what the character is about from the start and if they will change then I got to see what that change is. With Daniels I saw traits but she was too vague. I want characters where I can understand their personality preferably some minutes into the movie from when they are introduced. After that the character might change (Darth Vader is a perfect example of that) but done in a way so I understand their personality, their motivation, for example. If they fail with that in the writing and/or execution then I won't like it.
The only movie by Rian Johnson that I've watched is The Last Jedi. I got frustrated that they killed Luke, that’s my biggest problem with it but it's enough for me to not watch it again. Unfortunately there were other things in it that I didn’t like but that was my biggest problem. Not sure if I will watch any of his other movies, it was a bad introduction to him as a writer since he wrote it (I looked it up). Doing things in a different way hasn't got to be bad, it depends on what you do and how you do it.
James Cameron, I’ve watched Avatar, Terminator 1 & 2, Aliens, and Titanic. Those movies are good for entertainment, but they’re not bad.
I like the idea of just seeing shadows, that would’ve been creepy. It could be like you see something but you’re not sure what. That could be creepy and fit an alien-movie, they should maybe try it.
Other kind of biospheres could be interesting, maybe there are environments where the alien are better suited for? They are very hard to kill (acid for blood and what not). What if there are places where they get even deadlier? I don’t think that it’s simply to just do that, it would be like making an action-movie and improve it by adding more guns, you need more than that but at least it’s an idea among other things that you could play around with.
You mention carbon-based life, carbon is on earth and is therefore familiar. The trick I think is to take something in nature (if we talk sci-fi) and twist it enough so it feels unfamiliar and therefore scary. My point is that it’s possible but it takes some work.
“The Alien, is so much More. ;)”
Fair enough, the thing is to make it work.
It's an interesting idea, although I doubt it.
“it seems that they are not part of the ship but a structure underground.”
Scott has at different times said that the ship (1979) was like a bombing-plane with the eggs being like bio-bombs. You can try to find interviews where he mentions that. This probably means that the derelict was big and the place where they found them was like a storage of some sort.
It's possible to question if the scale makes sense but that was the point of that room as far as I know. At least with how it looks it makes it more mysterious. Kane went down there and said that it was a cave of some sort but he probably compared it to what he had seen before, he could be mistaken. Keeping that comment in mind I find it reasonable that some people might not think that it is a part of the ship but I don't think that it is.
Unfortunately it can mean more about David if Scott is involved. I’m not very excited about this at all, have him as a producer, not director. Not sure if the information on IMDB is true but it worries me that he might make it about David again and therefore mess it up.
Having said this it's in itself fascinating to see how productive he is at that age. I can respect him for still doing this even though I’m not a fan of the alien-prequels in general.
Interesting about the new trailer, thanks for the post. Sorry that I can’t answer your question but I can add some perspective on it.
Unfortunately it was cut too fast, you didn’t get to see a scene that lasted more than maybe two seconds? Compare it to this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ5lPt9edzQ
That is the original trailer, you see that they spend much more time on individual shots. I must say that I find that way to be better, the modern thing feels rushed.
Rushing things was one of the complaint that a host on the Perfect Organism podcast had about Scott. I can see what he means when I see that example of the updated trailer. They simply bombard us with images. Not to say that we need to spend 30 second on one shot but slow it down a little.
Agree with LETO on this.....the Sulaco was well designed for its time and still looks good to this day in my opinion....as well as the large Atmospheric Processing planet....."it's a rock no indigenous life." So no engineers there...and if they are there the place was nuked.
I like many of the designs in Aliens....the weapons....the lab, the inside of the ship....the sleep chambers, the WY complex......that was a cool movie overall for its time.....would challenge anyone to do better. Say what you will about Cameron but he gets stuff done! The Alien Queen Priceless special effects....but hey if anyone wants to throw it all under the bus I really could care less....its not going to stop me from enjoying it one bit.....
Anyone seen or heard from BIG DAVE!.....BigDave where are you old Chap!!!!!!
wtf?! Hadley's Hope has one of the best & most recognizable sci-fi designs.
Same designer, so I guess he ripped off himself.
That is a great observation, but I agree with Leto. If it were the case that it was Engineer technology, that brings up the question of why the people there never mentioned it (I am referring to the Director's Cut).
I have always think that the lower parts of the processor with strange shapes were the work of xenomorphs, i.e. their socket.
Although the idea is intriguing, it is not.
The reactor was covered in xenomorph slime.
The atmospheric processor was designed by Ron Cobb for Aliens (1986)
Based on the concept art, and Ron Cobb's approach to such things, it's likely it was always intended to be Human technology
You mean The Last Duel, The Duelists was his debut film.
Information on IMDB is not official, it is taken from media articles and rumors, so we have to wait for an officisl announcement. Until now we have nothing.
Yeah, you nailed it alright.
And you also pointed out everything I WON'T be doing in the ALIEN: Manticore sequel...
Because The Audience Deserves BETTER.
That's how I see it. That's what I run with.
In Space, There Is No Place To Run.
RBW is an example of how NOT to do sci-fi.
I respectfully disagree. Sci-fi has many avenues of approach.
There are types of sci-fi I don't like, but others may love that stuff that I hate- and we can argue that.
If we are free thinkers, we can debate- but I don't agree with the notion of saying how sci-fi should be done. As much as some things in sci-fi that I hate, I understand they are enjoyed by others.
It is understandable that comes from a writer's POV, but I am coming from a fan POV.
