I for one will keep it alive, but as I have mentioned I'm sending the critter off on a long Vacation.

I have exactly ZERO influence on the industry, and frankly that's just a-ok with me...put me in the same room with Giler and Hill the world would see me nuclear scorch-earth their egos and leave them bawling in the corner.

I've looked into their involvement with ALIEN franchise, and I really have to say they have Earned my hatred and contempt of them.

I will finish up the appearances of The Alien in my works and leave leave it alone thereafter...but it will NOT be gone.

The Audience will be privy to an in-universe secret guaranteeing it's spectre of menace shall hang over the galaxy for ages and eons to come.

Less Is More.

That said, I might reference Ripley, but she will never set an active foot in my universe. That character has had her time.
I have to admit though, it's fun to ponder how she'd react to Chimerans aboard ship...

And as we have all been saying, it's a BIG universe with so many, many other stories to tell about new encounters, new threats, new wonders.

Budget would be very expensive and the investment too, Disney will bet more on Star Wars Universe than ALIEN so I don't think so. A Scott-directed movie is more feasible, but could be even worse than Covenant. Just look at RBW Guzikowski after finishing 1 tv season, in topless and out of ideas, RBW 2 season will start shooting at the beginning of next year, (he said) and he does not even know which way to go, he has run out, I haven't seen more script holes in my life.

Each new film introduces the xenomorph in a different way.

OG Big Chap in Alien.

Hive warriors + Queen in Aliens.

Animal-like guardian in Alien 3.

Mixed clones-mutants + hybrid in Alien Resurrection.

Deacon + all other things in Prometheus.

Neomorph + praetomorph in Alien Covenant.

I don't understand what kind of development and evolution we are talking about? It's already here. We even gave up the facehugger, and got a trilobite + motes + predalien instead. Evolution is already here.

Perhaps you are talking about other ways of birth? If this is something new, but "usual", then... better not! Generic things don't fit the Alien Universe.

It looks like you are simply repeating Ridley's metaphysical sayings. He talks about it all the time, but the only time he tried to introduce new things (Engineers, Black Goo) - he avoided talking about them! Do we need new things to avoid exploring them? Do we need new things to try to milk the viewer over 6-10 sequels with an endless promise to explore them? Is there a convincing answer here?

"This is a kind of sabotage, hooliganism"

I get the Impression that the Addition of the Xenomorph is NOT what Ridley Scott had wanted, it seems he was FORCED to include it.  Maybe he did go OK so i am Forced to Abort my Ideas for Prometheus 2 to give them the Xenomorph, well lets SEE what they like ONCE i make my David the Creator...... but then we cant RULE out Hill and Giler as far as Influence on the Synthetic Creator Plot.

I dont really want this to become another (WHAT REALLY) was Wrong with the Prequels Debate or a David could NOT have Created it Debate as those have been more COOKED than the Xenomorph ;)

Ridley Scott is RIGHT in My Opinion with when he had said their is ONLY so much Face Hugging, Chest Bursting and Snarling that you can do.

Also when he says that you can have the Xenomorph but you have to CHANGE IT and EVOLVE IT.

I think after ALIENS then you had to UPLIFT or EVOLVE it, we HAD to wait until Alien Resurrection before we saw some Success to a Degree of WHAT a Company could do with the Xenomorph in its Possession.

With AR then the Potential was with Ripley 8 as FAR as what can be done with the Xenomorph DNA... Regarding the Xenomorphs though, they appear to be the SAME and thats a Snarling Aggressive Species that can be USED to Eradicate a Enemy but you have a Infestation on your Hands.....

WHAT would Happen and HOW do you Re-Engineer it to Control it?  Or can you input some-kind of KILL SWITCH to it or Limited Life Span?  Then as a Bio-Weapon it makes more Sense.

OR... can the Xenomorph Evolve, either Naturally or via Experiments like we saw with the Apes in Planet of the Apes.

so you can UPLIFT the Xenomorph that way as IF you Continue with the Space Termites Formula you get Action, Death, Guns... but then you could END UP with a Starship Troopers with a ONE TRICK PONY.

I think that after ALIENS we should have looked at Evolving and Uplifting the Xenomorph, and Alien Ressurection gave us some INSIGHT into this.. but it was FLAWED, and also the Queen had become Tarnished a bit.. and the NewBorn was more a Ambomination.

AVP gave us the Xenomorph in a Movie that was Executed a bit like ALIENS, as a Non-Canon alternative Universe the PLOT was Decent... just having it on Earth in the 20th Century was a Mistake...

AVPR had turned the Xenomorph more into a JOKE

Alien Covenant had attempted to UPLIFT the Xenomorph but all it had done was to TIE the THEMES of Creation etc and ARC of wanting to be a Creator with the Xenomorph via Davids Arc, but this just Elevated David and Diminished the Xenomorph for Many...

As it NOW had became NOT really ALIEN.

I think we have to FORGET about the PAST... ignore the Origins..

We have to LOOK at what this Perfect Organism can do as far as EVOLVE or HOW it could be Engineered.. and WHAT is the Hubris of this ;)

The Xenomorph is NOT DEAD... but you have to be Careful... if its OVER DONE or done BAD then its NOT FAR from that FINAL NAIL in the Coffin...

UNTIL YEARS down the Line they REBOOT the LOT. (but will it be Different?)

Regarding RS its a SHAME as he had ideas on how to Uplift the Xenomorph before Cameron came along, it was NOT the Fault of JC though.... RS was Busy and JC had kind of Uplifted what to do with the Xenomorph, the QUEEN had made Sense, it was Equally as Iconic.

After Aliens it went WRONG... because JC had introduced the Space Termites... but this merely opened up the Potential that the Xenomorph could have been a Pres-Existing Species the Space Jockey had encountered and tried to EXPLOIT.

But it also could have been a Creation, in which we see the Organism is VERY ADAPTIVE....

What Would become of Hadleys Hope had all the Sulaco Crew been Killed?  So WHAT becomes of a HIVE in say 6 Months,  a Year, 10 Years or 100 Years...

Do the Xenomorphs just remain like Space Ants/Termites?

They are more Intelligent than Ants/Termites but what is the LIMIT to their Existence?

Or WHAT would Happen if you try to Exploit the Xenomorph and Meddle with it?  Could you TRIGGER a Unwanted Evolution of the Species?

At the Begining the Beast was more than Meets the EYE.... but a lot of what the STARBEAST was has been LOST.

Can that be Resrected and passed onto the Xenomorph?

Or maybe you can Resurrect the Starbeast Ideas in the Form of something that EVOLVES from the Xenomorph or something that Pre-existed the Xenomorph and LV-223!

For EXAMPLE..... could the ULTRAMORPH be something of a Future Evolution?  Or is this the ALPHA and the Origin to all that Happened on LV-223?

Or do we STICK with the Xenomorph?

Then do you UPLIFT or EVOLVE it or if you think "its NOT broken then DONT Fix It" but can you Spawn out another 3-4 Movies with that Formula?

These could all be Covered in the SAME Context, by Exploring the Engineers, surely the Earth is NOT the only place that they had Created/Evolved,Taught and Interacted with Intelligent Life and Humanoids and MAYBE the Earth is NOT the ONLY place the Engineers had Seeded Humans.

Do we EVEN come from Earth?

"6. Other life-forms on other planets"

This ONE in Particular could be Explored with a TV Show, where you DONT even have to Feature the Engineers or NOT a lot.

Its LIKELY they had Seeded other Worlds, and maybe some WORLDS they had NOT... with Human Expansion into the COSMOS then SOME DAY its Possible that Humans from Earth could come across another Civilization.

OR.... have the Engineer Seeded any Hostile Organisms, are these on Purpose, or by Accident or WHAT becomes of Worlds that the Bio-Weapon was deployed on?

With Alien Covenant we see something like this... with the Neomorph, but WHAT would have became of Planet 4 say if David had Died after the Juggernaught Crash.... what Happens to a Place like Planet 4, 50, 100, 200, 500 Years after the Pathogen has Deployed?

So YES there is Plenty they can do with the ALIEN Franchise, it does-not have to be about Ripley and Xenomorphs ;)

No, it cannot.

Ridley is wrong. It's like: "I hate X, but I have to put X in the story, so I intend to screw up X and say: «See, this doesn't work, the beast is cooked!!!»" This is a kind of sabotage, hooliganism.

And Ridley can't be right because... why? Because he's not the cornerstone of the franchise. He's just "one of". Books, toys, comics, video games, board games, etc. Everything proves that the xenomorph is more alive than all living things. We just have one person who is unhappy with X and wants to persuade others to his point of view. That's all.

For all who don't need an Alien - there is RbW. A great example of how you don't have to screw up the X franchise for your dubious ideas.

"2. WY, and what they might be up to"

Quite a LOT i would imagine, not Restricted to Flute Playing Androids and Chasing Xenomorphs.  It would seem that Space Travel/Exploration and to Exploit the Resources of Space and Colonize Worlds is RIGHT UP there on their List of Priorities.

Yes their may be other THINGS they do on Earth/Mars but i think as FAR as a Movie.... but more SO a TV Series then the Exploration of Space has to be where it is at.

Their is a LOT to Gain from Space, and a LOT to Loose.. "in Space No-One can Hear you Scream" and so we know that Space can be Hostile, you cant Survive in Space as you depend on your Ships and Technology and WHEN things GO WRONG.... your a LONG WAY from Home.

Even when you Find a WORLD we see that NOT ALL of them are Habitable without Space Suits, and even Worlds that ARE then WHO KNOWS to what Dangers lie Ahead.

"3. Marines, have they been used for other adventures just than in Aliens."

Absolutely and i think again a TV Series is more Suited to this.

Just another Bug Hunt could indicate the Marines have had to DEAL with other Hostile Life Forms... just they have NEVER had to Encounter anything like the Xenomorph.  If the W-Y company are Building Better Worlds and we KNOW about their Corporate Greed, if they Discover a IDEAL WORLD but their is some THREAT that is Native to the World that could be a Problem to their Plans then they could CALL IN the Marines.

They would also likely be Dealing with ROGUE COLONISTS, and Terrorists, and Rival Nations/Military.  But also to take CARE of any Malfunctioning or Rebellious Synthetics ;)

What do they do for DOWN TIME?  And so we know some like to have that Articulan Poontang ;)

"4. Corporate law-making and police. Weyland-Yutani is big"

I think again a TV Series could cover this, surely the Company would be Protective of its Resources and Technology, and sure they would have some Rivalries.  And also such things could be looked at PRIOR to the Merger when Surely with Weyland and Yutani had to be Rivals.

"5. Xenos as medicine, who’s to say that they can only be used as bio-weapons?"

Indeed we have been their done that and WORN the T-Shirt, i think we could ASK is there more to be GAINED than using the Xenomorph as merely a Aggressive, Deadly and Invasive Species as a Eradication Tool.

Surely the W-Y Company have better (Nukes and Biological Warfare) and for the Engineers then the Black Goo is a FAR BETTER kind of Eradication Tool.

So WAS/IS there other Reasons the Engineers had a Interest in them? Could their be more to Gain for the Weyland-Yutani Company?

I think a MOVIE could Cover this.... i think if we LOOK at Ripley 8 we can see the Xenomorph DNA has a BETTER USE.

"7. Androids and how they use androids in their corporate take-over of the world"

I think their is a LOT to the A.I that can be covered in a NUMBER of Ways, but if we look at something more BASIC then Synthetics could be Explored more in Context to the Rivalry that Weyland and Yutani had... surely Yutani had their own Robots... maybe Part of the Merger is a Desire for Weyland Technology in regards to Synthetics... the Prometheus Viral site did indicate a Technological Rivalry and a PATENT Dispute regarding SYNTHETICS.

Also with Alien Resurrection we have the AUTONS a A.I that was Created by A.I and in a TV Spin Off this could be Explored.

I don't think that you need to keep the franchise to neither Ripley nor the Xeno. There are different ways to expand the franchise, I wrote a topic about it titled Ideas for alien-movies, please respond to it if you want.

There could be new monsters, we've already have the Hammerpede, Xeno-fifield which wasn't really a Xeno, the Newborn even though it looked like crap. Yes the franchise could expand without the Xeno.

That was the 'dartboard' I was aiming for and it seems I managed to hit it. :D
Thank-You again for the compliments and the analysis! It's always a HUGE relief to a writer to get proof that people see what your intent was, and also that what you were trying to say came out properly.

It's the sort of thing one can ONLY get from Outside/External Perspective.

Manticore's crew, like many others....think about what happens to your life, friendships and family ties due to hypersleep?
A 10 month trip, you wake up 10-months out of synch, and have aged about a minute...everyone else has aged 10 months, and perhaps some of those you loved have died, been mourned and people have moved on...leaving you to grieve alone.
Just hypersleep itself is a messed-up thing, with what it does to your life....and in the end, the ONLY people you end up having any real, sustainable connection with...is your crew.
How precious are those people then to you?

Then there's all the other associated problems with life in the ALIENverse aside from drooling skull-crunching horrors...clients trying to screw you out of being paid for a job, corporations trying to force you and the other 'small fry' out of traffic corridors that they want to take over, the very real possibility of pirates/raiders and the like, a nice, normal freight run...and the clients have loaded the cargo with some 'dubious' materials and you and your crew get left holding the bag. Then there's the possibility of a trade war...involving tariffs and rail gun shots.

Yeah, life in the ALIENverse is seriously messed-up even without looking outside just 'business as usual' amongst Humanity...start adding in The Unknown and the Lovecraftian...well, then you count yourself damn lucky to have a crew as tightly-knit together by the common suffering of hypersleep as you have.

And if you start off with a foundation like Sin and Selina did, then you have that extra bit going for you as well.

And in the ALIENverse, that little extra bit can make a huge difference, right?

Loved your advice and things to ponder you said to Dhogmeat !! :)

Believe, I read through it, and took notes!

I've been pondering the Engineers since Prometheus first struck my eyes.
My short story ORIGIN is an extremely experimental piece but expands upon some things learned about the Engineers in ALIEN: Manticore.
It's taking longer than I intended as there's the adverse effects on me from The Enemy, but also because it's something I am being very, very careful with regarding details and canon, continuity and Plausibility.
That said is does offer some thoughts/answers/plausible reasons why the population of Planet-4 looked so different from the LV-223 Engineers.
The Alien does figure in to the story, but only insofar as is Necessary...think 'cameo' basically. lol
I've established that Shadowfall and indeed the Lakota star system (Mentioned in PALOMINO and ALIEN: Manticore) was NOT a work of the Engineers, nor was Earth...despite what Shaw thinks.
 I will say this;
There was a War In The Heavens, and as Shaw learned, everything she thought about The Engineers was 'wrong, we were so wrong!' :D

After the sequel to ALIEN: Manticore, I'm sending The Big Chap off an Vacation. I will not be writing anything involving The Alien directly for quite some time after the sequel.
Tall, dark and slobbery needs a sabbatical.

And, as you point out...it's a BIG universe and there's Other Things out there to challenge Humanity on every level.

Hox: I like the idea of a movie that is more like Giger would have imagined how it would look like. I’m also agreeing about getting to know more about the Engineers, however I would like to keep the origin of the goo as a secret. One of the things about the franchise that makes it good is the mystery and if you get rid of that then it reduces the quality.

They tried to explain things in Prometheus and Covenant and the result has been so and so at best at least about the mystery-part. For example if they go back in the prequels and explain that this is how the Weyland company started, this is exactly how the Xeno got made, and so on then it would take away a lot of what is interesting, at least to me. When you remove one mystery you got to replace it with a better one, and I am not sure of that can be done at least if we look at how the prequels have dealt with it even though I find the Engineers and the goo to be interesting.

BD

Just because the prequels are disappointing in general doesn't mean that you got to throw everything away. They said that at the AVP-galaxy podcast that Prometheus opened the franchise up and then AC sort of closed it more.

Having it about Ripley again is boring, bring me someone new. I wouldn’t mind the corporate conspiracy, it could work but they should throw something new in there because we already have the WY.

Maybe we could get some new monsters and therefore get some sort of indirect tie to the Engineers. I don't think that they would go that way but it would be good just to see something different.

“"In Space No One Can Hear you Dream"

That could be the case, I don't like it. Please no Ripley, I'll stay at home if that's the case. Another movie with a character created some 40 years ago isn't interesting specially if he already had a fitting end.

“Lets HOPE they don't go FULL MATRIX!”

We've gotten disappointments after Alien 3 so that wouldn't surprise me. I think that it's likely that we get another let-down.

“The Xenomorph has Captured Ripley, she is Cocooned for some Purpose, and the Xenomorph has Implanted a False Life/Memory and Dreams in HER.…”

LMAO! That sounds like a comedy to be honest, it's Resurrection-level.

The prequels would have been better if they wouldn't have been about David and if the characters wouldn't be so poorly written and executed. I don't care about the themes if the movie is underwhelming. You are probably right when you say that Alien 5 wouldn't connect very much to the prequels at all.

About the monster and Alien 5, at least they could have evolved it somehow. I don't want another Xenomorph. LOL! Rodents, let it infect a mouse and see what you'll get. :D

You mention mimicking Ripley, wasn't there an idea that it would make a call late in Alien? That would have been so stupid, I'm glad that they avoided that. It wouldn't even be an ending worthy of a B-movie, it sounds like a C-movie at best. If you want to evolve something you got to start with a somewhat good foundation/ideas but that just seems to be stupid. Like I’ve said, he's not a writer and that really shows with that idea. They avoided an embarrassment by rejecting that idea. He can come up with concepts and that but they should just be things that people could say yes or no to in other words he should not have an influence in the writing. Scott affected the writing in the prequels and we have a franchise that suffers partially because of that. To reference the AVP-galaxy again, they need someone that can stand up to Scott and say no when he gives crappy ideas but that should have been done earlier.

“... we may have seen the Xenomorph be more like David lol.... a Xenomorph with Davids Agenda and how Disturbing David was... could be something Horrific.”

LOL! David makes himself partially human, screws a Xeno (a queen?), and they have babies. What a disgusting mental image, really. Ridley isn't the only one that can make the Alien-franchise worse, I can too. :D

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumWhy are we here on the AC Forum?

Because there are people here that enjoy various kinds of the franchise, some are into the comics and some are not, people have different opinions about the movies. I like that there are other people that enjoy the franchise and I do too even though we might like different parts and to various degrees. Just because I like a scene very much doesn't mean that another one likes it to the same degree. For example someone might respond to the SJ with amazement while another one responds with “Oh that’s interesting”, they both like it but not to the same extent.

The more people that participate the better, just don't be an asshole. I’m sorry if I have acted rude towards anyone here.

At times there is humor, there is a place for it here too.

There is a podcast about the alien franchise that I listen to and enjoy and if some people download, listen and enjoy that then it's good that someone else appreciates it.

Some people might enjoy things that I don't. Maybe there's someone that likes Resurrection, I don't but they are allowed to enjoy it. Who am I to say that they can't? Even though I don't like how the prequels have turned out there are at least parts that I like, I don't dismiss them totally.

I can try to accept that people might like things that I don't. When there are central things to the franchise that I don't think work then I get opinionated about it, not things like how a ship looks because that's just a detail.

BWW makes her fan-stories, I appreciate that. The fact that someone out there can care about the franchise so much so the person creates fan-things just because is interesting. Big Dave brings his essays and a lot of them are interesting to read. We all have our own perspectives, that's what makes it good.

“Alien is on some level the complete opposite of Stark Trek. It’s sort of about humanity at its worst…”

He seems to get it, at least theoretically. It isn't about androids, it isn't about the monster, it's about humans and how low they can sink when they are only in it for themselves. What Ripley said to Burke in Aliens sums it up perfectly in my opinion.

Give that guy the job and we will maybe see something good, something that we haven't seen since Alien 3. Have him making the third prequel maybe? It can't get much worse than what the prequels have done this far.

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumNew Writer

BWW: Yes! More Engineers would be a good way to expand it. Let's say that the Engineers built up their empire but that they were in competition with another life-form maybe humanoid. The Engineers got introduced in Prometheus so there is still a chance to introduce something else, even though if it's just in a expanded universe. Maybe you can do something with that and introduce new life-forms in your take on the alien-universe? One thing that they could do is to make it clear that the engineers are a civilization, that explains the different look of the LV-223 version and those on Planet 4. I listened to a podcast, I think that it was from AVP-galaxy where they discussed the difference between those two.

The central theme in the alien-universe seems to be about humans that get into situations that they are poorly prepared to handle based on sci-fi. With this in mind you can put it into different directions.

I’m just throwing out random ideas, some might say that having a universe with many life-forms is more like Star Trek, maybe but then if Star Trek can do that so can the Alien-universe. There could be and can be other alien-movies that are not about seeing Xenos for the 100th time. Especially with the addition of the Engineers, then who knows what kind of things that they have developed or encountered?

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumNew Writer

That's nice, welcome aboard. I hope that you'll enjoy your time here. Write because you enjoy it, I don't think that it's common that writers can make a living out of it.

Alien: Last Survivor seems like an interesting title, you could take that into different directions. I was disappointed that they didn't have any Engineers in Alien Covenant except for those at Planet 4. Having them finding an injured Engineer could lead to something interesting. Yeah there have been too much of people sticking their heads into eggs, I agree. At this time maybe people almost expect that to happen and if that's the case you might get a feeling of disgust but you don't get as afraid as you would be compared to if that was something new.

Remember the importance of well-written characters. Not all of them need to be well fleshed out but at least some of them but it depends on how many characters that you have. You write that you're not certain how you'll present it, maybe you can have the same characters but in different genres like how they did with Alien and Aliens? Maybe you could expand it, Alien was horror, Aliens was action-horror, maybe you can put it into another genre and make it work? I’m not sure how many genres there are but maybe there's another one that haven't occurred to me that could work?

We've seen marines before, there got to be a way to make something else. There is potentially a lot to discover in the alien-universe, maybe you could try to introduce some life-forms that we haven't seen before? Cameron introduced the queen so he added his thing to the alien-universe, and if he can so can you. People that ain't famous can have great ideas too.

Maybe you can do fan-fiction that involves the Engineers? I think that they were a welcome addition to the franchise. Even though Prometheus has a lot of problems at least they were interesting. Not everything about Prometheus is bad, the same goes for Alien Covenant.

Different worlds, different factions of Engineers, different monsters, the black goo could be expanded on, rivalries to WY. Maybe there are life-forms in the alien-universe that we haven't seen? You could introduce them in your fan-fiction. Androids could be involved although I wouldn't like the story to be about them but Ash and Bishop worked well in context of the story but unfortunately it became too much about androids in the prequels. We don't need the androids to be totally ignored is my point.

To me the central theme in the franchise has always been about human beings (that can't be stressed enough) that get into situations that they think that they can handle but are not prepared for when they face the situation. Corporate greed is another theme that we see with Weyland and Yutani, that could be expanded on.

What if there is a part of it where the corporation try to bribe someone to do something and they get it to work but then you got to have the good guys as a counter-balance. It's almost like those that are attempted to go to the dark side in Star Wars. The point is how someone can go from an idealist to get bribed and go to the other side without the point being that everyone is just in it for the money.

Remember that they talked in AR that they could use the Xeno for new vaccines, maybe that's something?

There is more in the alien-franchise than just the Xenos is my point. It could be expanded, the Engineers was a good start I think since it gives us a example that it could be done. Feel free to use any of the ideas to your fan-fiction that I have mentioned here. You probably have fan-writers that are writing about the same things but in different ways. Human drama has been around for a long time and very few stories are totally new, the same goes for the alien-verse. There is a possibility to find inspiration in old things and make it your own without stealing it.

About your name, that is from Hudson, right? He said something like that to Burke, as far as I know.

The short itself gave a really good view of character development. It seemed positive and there was a sense of mutual curiosity, respect and even attraction from both characters with a "breaking of the bread" moment. Seems like a good foundation for whatever messed up situations may lay ahead for them.

I read the book river of pain recently. The story of 'before aliens'  and I really dislike it. Not because its bad, I just think its a story that doesn't need to be told. I felt the same way about star wars rogue one. We already know the colonists die. It just forces the author to add heroic elements that water down the horror. Who cares about the film alien or aliens if prior to the story, people have already been blowing the shit out of them and surviving in laughable ways.

Setting wise here are some story beats.

Epsilon Erridani. Its a starship fuel outpost.

The planet itself is habitable with little fawna but don't currently have much value other than being a stop over for exploration ships. People go there to escape civalisation because the set up is almost self sustaining. Drones skim the surface of the gas giant and bring back h3 gas for refining. That's how they support themselves. Prospectors roam the surface looking for ore hoping that finding something valuable will make a big company take more notice and finance a big development. This causes some friction because some of the characters think a big player like WY would shuffle off the little guys in a gold rush event, then leave. Some just want to make it work without having to rely on outside help. The planet itself has storm seasons that effectively shut down operations for months so you get isolated very quickly if you stuck in one.

Very happy you enjoyed it and Thank-You for the compliments!

You are of course most welcome!! :)

Eraserhead...yeah, good point, exception proving the rule. :D

The idea actually came from Star Trek 5, where it starts off with Kirk free-climbing El Capitan. They did some great camera work with that whole opening, and I wanted to try to capture some of that.
Then again, in fiction there's NO shortage of dangerously-high places to have characters involved with. :D

It also came about when I asked myself
"What would motivate a Chimeran Artemis to marry a Human?"

I have to say- it was definitely its own thing, but brought recollections of AVP and even SW- the first movie. Again, it is fun to read something that recalls other works while being its own thing. I guess it's called inspiration or influence.

As usual, it is written so that a very clear picture can be imagined by the individual reader.

I am glad you clarified your title not being related to the short, which is cool too if anyone cares to see- that was immediately where my head went.

@DK Agree, Weyland Co. was not located on Mars? If I remember correctly, it was branched out on Mars as headquarters.

I would like to see a focus on WY and its dirty deeds. I can do without militants and monsters since that seems sort of played out. Those elements being sprinkled in could be nice but shouldn't be the focus. As long as it's good, I am all for it.

This would be an expensive and ambitious project, Weyland Corporation was a industrial monster in fact. I don't know if it could be done. Meanwhile, Marines could shooting Xenos, Trilobites, or Chameleon Spidrid himself in nightmare planet that eats anything moves, damn, one of my favorite sticky monsters from starblazer magazine :)

Welcome! Your take on including Engineers sounds really good. Sharing your work is appreciated. Yes, I am feeling the Hooah stuff is played out too. You may not know who Lemmy Kilmister was, but his words apply for presenting your works. "Run your flag up the pole and see who salutes it."

The Sandkings is another good short story by George R.R. Martin. From his time before Game of Thrones, that's my introduction to his sci fi period, when I was younger and had a lot more time to read And somehow written in the same spirit with Martian Chronicles.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

Thank-you for the compliments!!

The champagne, well...if you survive a climb like that, you have earned it, and it helps impress the woman you have your sights set on too. :D

I haven't read anything by George R.R. Martin as yet, but with your reference above, I'll start with that story 'A Song for Lya' as you have me curious. :)

I can relate, in a way... My parents are long since gone, and my grandparents before them. I read The Martian Chronicles and I hear their voices 'narrating' for me. :)

That project was abandoned some time ago, butbafter the succes of Raised by Wolves it is a good chance it will be reconsidered.

As long as it does not imply marines shooting xenomorphs it should be a step forward.

My grandmother would tell me over and over the story of Three Little Pigs at bedtime and sometimes she got distracted by some thoughts and omitted some detail that I immediately corrected. That story kept me awake but it was the only story she told me, I don't know the reason why and now it is too late to ask.

When I heard Mother telling the same story to the children in Raised by Wolves it brought up the memory of my grandmother and the happy days of childhood.
