I love the Cube franchise. I remember watching it as a young child. I was at a movie store and just wanted something different. I settled on the first Cube movie as a random selected joke. All three were available to pick from though. I thought it would be best to get the first one, starting right at the beginning. My mom somehow said yes and we got it! I watched it and decided I had to see all of them.
It's been so long since I watched a Cube movie. They were like gold that I couldn't possess during my childhood, but the memories of them have stuck with me for a decade. EDIT: decades, not decade
Nice topic and interesting backstory on Jon Spaiht. Thanks for sharing! The same goes for your avatar source!
mabye he will come back with the engineers in awakening. it is possible that hte ywould pick him up.
I think I read that the protomorph was primarily quadrupedal due to rules for movie monsters in Asia. So if that is true, Fox crapped on the inherited trait concept for Asian box office cash.
if true thats extremly exiting news! its possible that the she won't go quietly and lunar audi quatro cluip were not deleted scenes but actually scens from the next film akekening.
So very correct MonsterZero.
What I loved about Ash was that he slept with the crew. They had no clue he was white-blooded. I bet he pulled off his jumpsuit 5 minutes before the Nostromo crew woke up and went and laid down in the hypersleep tubes with the rest of them...then wiped his eyes and yawned when they started moving.

Yes Ati. We can't have someone putting human interests above corporate interests.
Ash would most certainly know the pecking order. Corporate knew something before the Prometheus mission. I assume Weyland probes sent back the image above and the company knew something for quite a while and installed Ash to ensure assets were moved into the right places to support Special Orders.

This synthetic above opened his eyes to what looked like the planet shown at the beginning of Prometheus and the beginning Alien: Covenant and he put progress above nostalgia.
Rock on with the heavy eye makeup. Thank you Ati.
Thank you Ati, I was able to post now.
That bit of information on Parker is great. He was finished waiting and built his own ship to "check you later" Torin Prime.
Some fan art , or at least that that's cast it's icy gloaming into my dark psyche oft exudes that graphic density , almost out Gigering Giger , even some of the promo art for Covenant had that succulent depth of horror that rarely made it onto the screen & which I still" await ". Off on a tangent - there is a 4K version of Prometheus ! (Actually I love the film) anyone made the blu-ray comparison ?
LOL! true for the proto- and they become unseen and move to the front of the head at adulthood. Although I think the Alien Chestburster had hidden eyes.
just watched the short film. would be lying if i said that I understood much of anything.
David found an Engineer egg and this egg is shown for a second in the movie - he touches it before he leads Oram to the chamber. (Not the sliced one.)
The chamber eggs were created by David.
So it is probable that the eggs in the Derelict were made by the Engineers:
the alien franchises focus shuld be about the aliens. there can be themes of engineers and a.i philosophy but they nead to complement the alien story. not replace it or mash them together in equel parts.
i read a theory on this forum about a month ago that david inhabited walters programing and that david is in waltes body and davids body is still on planet 4
thats how I always thought of it too. the problem is that casuall viewers don't see it that way. I hope awakemimg will make that more clear to the general public
That's how I always understood it, David improved on what was already available.
"Captured and held by rebels at GR-161 on Torin Prime in 2107; escaped during liberation of Torin Prime in 2108 in an emergency evacuation vehicle (EEV) that he constructed himself from scrap."
Such a skillful character, such a rich universe. He deserves a spin-off. :D
I hope you'll be able to solve the posting problems because I miss your topics and comments. :)
'The decision was made to replace the serving science officer with an artificial person, so that Company interests would be suitably represented.'
Not taking into consideration (the reliability of) the information provided by the Weyland-Yutani Report, the fact you mention proves that somebody at WY knew something about the events prior to the year 2122 when Alien takes place.
I've long said Ash would be a great link between Ridley's prequels and A L I E N.
I just don't know if fans would buy the CGI or if they/Fox/Disney could even use the likeness of Ian Holm.
With Ash's pettiness or ingenuity, maybe he some how gets David killed....(Don't think Ash could handle David in a fight(had a bad time with ONE human!)) ...I could see how Ash could push the right button, or pull the wrong lever to get him killed.
Theories on Ash?

Let me recommend the three seasons of The Fall (2013-2016).
It is one of the best shows I've ever seen. Exciting story, brilliant acting (Gillian Anderson, Jamie Dornan). The story arc met its conclusion in the third season in 2016, but it is very probable that we will see Gillian Anderson again in new seasons.

Big Dave:
I wouldn't mind if they have a female AI, as far as I know Call is the only female AI that we have seen this far in the franchise. We have had Ash, Bishop, David, and Walter this far as male synthetics are concerned so there is room for a female robot.
Characters: Maybe they have not understood that enough this far but I hope that they do now so they will not disappoint us for a third time in a row. They should try to find some writer that is good at writing characters and that understands the sci-fi genre.
"There is not much you can do with David being alone on the Covenant ship for 7.5, years and then using his TWO Face Huggers on Daniels and Tennessee while the other Colonist are all asleep in Cryo-Sleep."
Exactly, that is why the ending of Alien Covenant was sort of strange because it was like "OK, where do they go from here?". Did they even think it through when they did the movie? That was another thing that was not that good about it.
"I have a feeling David will pose as Walter and set up the Colony, before we see David try and present himself as the KING of this New Colony, i think the Next Movie for the most part will be set in the Year 2114-2115"
I am not sure why but maybe that is because he would like to see the humans suffer while he makes himself the ruler of it all.
"And we have to wonder how the Engineers are able to discover where David was going, as there is NO Evidence left behind, not really apart from Walter, so i assume its from Walter that the Engineers are aware David is off to Origae-6"
This might be a stupid idea but you know how the police has some technology when they analyze finger prints when they shall solve crimes? Maybe there is some material there that was left over from the mission that the Engineers can use in some way to understand where they were going? Sci-fi is interesting because you can come up with so many scenarios and make up different explanations to why things happen so maybe they can come up with an answer to this that is at least somewhat rational and interesting. I am not sure how this would work in the movie but at least that is a idea that I have.
"I think things would get to Star Trekish if we went that far into the sci-fi world."
Yeah but do you think that Scott understand that?
"I simply hate the perceived path RS is taking the franchise."
Me too even though hate is a strong word but it is really crappy. Keep it to the Engineers and their connection to the Xeno and keep the human element as the main thing. The AI story that they turn this into is crap, it might sound interesting but it is a mess when they have it in the Alien franchise.
"AC FORCED a xeno in there and it had no impact."
Maybe Scott was told to use it while he in reality didn't have the interest to do so.
". . . hes lost the true imagination and wonder within the alien franchise and is simply too stubborn to change."
My guess is that if he would be totally responsible for the story then it would turn into shit. Scott is good with the visuals but he can't write.
"... is that David Created the Xenomorph."
That idea was really dumb, I dislike it so much.
"I think RS wanted to try and cover more with the Universe, where Prometheus was to ask WHY as far as how the Xenomorph had occurred which is a result of a Bio-Weapon those Engineers Created and it was to explore WHY they would want to create such a Horrific Bio-Weapon, rather than showing us the History of the Xenomorph and Queens etc."
OK but the way that they have done that is just bad.
"Due to pressure to please Fans, he was asked to give the Fans the Xenomorph again and Show us how it was Created... And the Curve-ball that RS decided on, has upset a lot of fans."
Yeah, that David crap.
"AI is not the alien franchise..."
Tell that to Scott, he doesn't seem to understand that.
". . . bad call and if this ends up being the case, his prequel series will have as much effect and impact on the franchise as AVP and AVPR did with the eception of Prometheus."
He he, they might make AVP look good. I don't like AVP or Covenant, Prometheus was not that good either.
". . . nah, time to go if that's his plan imo. I watch alien because its about the beast and by extension, the engineers now and I watch BR because it explores synthetics. im not interested in a BR spinoff called alien awakening."
I watch it because of the beast and the human characters because it tells us something about how humans react when they are put under pressure from something that they are not prepared for. The Engineers could be interesting if they get that right but I don't care for the AI part. Unfortunately the next alien movie could turn out to be crap.
Vineticum:
I am not against homosexual couples but I don't understand why you have them on a colonization mission if it is about inhabit a planet and expanding it by getting kids. They were characterized alright in AC but they were sort of anonymous as well as most characters in AC. Wasn't it Lope and another guy that I don't remember the name of?
"I think the books can help to increase the holes that have not been filled by the film."
Yeah but that shouldn't be the case, that should be explained in a way in the movie.
Ati: I like the first image that you posted, it looks like some valley of some kind. The last image could inspire to a scene when the Engineers show up and find something. Maybe it could be when some of them show up and see what David did.
Maybe it has not killed it but it hasn't made it better. To me it seems that there are people that have strong opinions about the prequel movies which leads to exaggerated claims both from those that like them and those that don't.
Alien 3 was that last Alien movie that I really liked. The movies that have been released after that have been average at best.
"… but don't really understand how anyone can say this about Covenant.Alien 3,Alien Resurrection,AVP..."
Lack of good characters, dialogue, and ideas might be parts of the answer at least. The franchise has been around for a long time so logically now the more movies that are done the less the chances are that all movies will be good. I like Alien 3 so my claim about that is about the other movies in the quote.
The fact that there is a division between the fans of the alien franchise is a good thing. There was a podcast made by AVP-galaxy where they were worried about that but I think that it is a healthy thing. If every fan of a franchise agree about what is the best thing then it is not a group that invites to discussions but rather a church where everyone is supposed to have the same opinion.
The prequels didn't ruin Star Wars and I guess that it is the same here.
You mention video games, I don't care for those. Maybe there are people that buy almost everything that have the alien connection to it but I don't. There is a difference between having an interest in something and to be a mindless consumer. It seems to me that if you buy everything just because it has an alien connection to it, a Star Wars connection or whatever then to me it is a behavior of someone that has been told to buy everything of a certain brand, to me that is not healthy. No I have never bought an alien comic while we are at it and I have no interest to do so either.
My reason for why I feel a bit sour about AC is that Prometheus was not that good so I hoped that they would have learned something from the criticism of Prometheus when they did AC but they did not. The characters were still not well written which is also my main problem with Prometheus. When there is almost the same problems two movies after each-other it really makes me wonder.
"No...If Alien3 didn't kill this franchise then nothing will."
I might be a bit biased here but AR and AVP are the movies that did more damage to the franchise than Alien 3, but that is my opinion. I still have not watched AVPR and I have no intention to do so either.
"The Engineers arrive and take Davids few Creations to LV-223 where they begin to Mass Produce them?"
This, if they will explain that the SJ is an Engineer, then at least they will explain why there are so many eggs on the Derelict. I would probably prefer that the SJ is a long distant relative to the Engineers though which could explain the difference in size between them.
Timmy: I don't want them to retcon Alien 3 either, I would be disappointed if they did so. They better not do that being that they have done enough damage with Prometheus and Alien Covenant.
What we saw of them in Alien Covenant was kind of weak, it could have been a lot better. I would like to think of what we saw in Covenant as a sort of outpost or what ever and not their real homeworld. Hopefully they will make it better in the next movie.
"We will probably see the return of that kind of Engineer in the next film..."
Hopefully, that could be interesting depending on how they choose to portray it. It would be interesting if they have some sort of army (compare it to the war fleets like they have in Star Wars).
For some reason that clip of Daniels was more interesting than what we saw of her. We see how she reacts to situation like that and it gives her some more depth which was lacking in the movie.
Big Dave:
I wonder how the Engineers would react when they saw what David had done and so on. I guess that they would not be happy but I would like to see a short scene connected to it at least. They don't need to spend a lot of time on that just some minutes (maybe two) with some dialogue that makes sense so we get some idea of what they will do next. Hopefully they will be featured in the movie enough to make an impact on the story so we don't get a movie that is totally focused on David.
It doesn't matter to me who the main characters are as long as they are sympathetic enough and well done. To me it would be a surprise if Daniels or Tennesee will survive into the next movie. My guess is that they will have to try something better with the characters that will show up in the next movie.
My idea is that the revelation that David is not Walter could be a starting-point for some interesting action scenes when that happens. Let's say that they believe that David is Walter and for some reason David starts to act suspicious so they sort of find that out and when that happens David goes crazy so we might get some action scenes like some of those scenes that we have in Aliens for example when they try to get from the Xenos in Aliens in the end when Gorman, Vasques, Hicks, Ripley and Newt try to get to the ship as far as the pacing is concerned. To me some more scenes like that could make up for the slow parts in AC if they get the characters right so we care for them. Maybe there could be some David and the monsters versus the colonist kind of action scenes although I believe that scenes that build up tension are more interesting if they end up in a way that suits the movie. I don't want action scenes just for the sake of including that to make up for AC, they got to make sense also.
Perhaps there don't need to be guns and explosions but some dark corridors and what ever. Perhaps they don't have guns so they will need to have other weapons or the guns get destroyed and what not. It doesn't have to be no guns (Alien 3) or a lot of them (Aliens) but rather that their weapon supply is limited because they never though that they would have to deal with a threat like that. Eventually this could give us some unexpected scenes in some way. With unexpected scenes I mean those that make sense in the context of the movie and that makes you react like "that was interesting and well done, good". Action and fear are two parts that I think that the next Alien movie got to have, more than AC at least but that should not be very difficult compared to what they gave us in the previous movie.
As far as a colony is concerned you have Hadleys Hope from Aliens so they could find some inspiration there. To my knowledge the only time that we have seen a colony this far is in Aliens. See how that was built and how the environment looked like (buildings, lightning, and so on) and see how you could use what was good about it and what you can do to make it different. Hopefully they will make that other colony have a sort of identity of its own so it looks different enough so to speak because there is no point in having a sort of Hadley's Hope part 2. Interesting environments is not what I am worried about when it comes to Ridley, my worries are about other things.
"But the set up now is to link back to ALIEN, they have to have some Human Characters Survive to move onto the next movie for it to work, so it will be tricky for how this is handled, because if the Engineers turn up we have to ask would they want any Humans to Survive?"
If they will act the way that the Engineer did in Prometheus then I doubt it but it would be interesting.
Yeah lol a lot of it went over my head too. Apparently it is very deep and meaningful though. Im sure some of the members on here far smarter than me can fill us in?
I don't want/need things spoonfed to me but abstract concepts are beyond me. XD
I saw the clip and it had some interesting action. I didn't really understand it though. Maybe a longer version would flesh it out.
Yeah agreed. Like our friend the Space Jockey some mystery's are better left unsolved. Better for the imagination and left was to wonder about.
As for any 4th instalment for the Cube I think no news is bad news in this case sadly :( a Jon Spaiht's Cube wouldve been interesting.
Did you watch that Controller clip? Interesting and clever video clip, Saman Kesh worth keep an eye on.
It seems unclear if it was going top be a remake, retooled remake or quasi prequel. It sounds interesting but could dillute the original. Like the Alien franchise, I hope there are some things never answered and left ambiguous. Cube Zero left a lot to think about. I wonder why Vincenzo Natali isn't involved.
Glad you like these artworks.
Let's hope sy from 21st Century Fox will read your comments... :)
Chris Cold:

1. Sigourney Weaver want more time on the screen.
2. She didn't want to share this time with anyone else.
3. She want story only about Ripley.
4. Producers want easy money.
5. Producers themselves do not know what they want (in story context).
6. Lack of a strong director.
7. Alien3 was a production hell.
8. Stupid writers - they nothing know about Alien universe and too lazy.
Well, it is not all reasons, but main. I must say that at that time Alien3 was adopted much worse than the Covenant at moment. This is not bad movie, but definitely worst Alien movie.
I think the late HR Giger would approve. Every image is dead on and even suggests plant life too.
