Nephilim_LV426Prometheus ForumSo the derelict crashesFeb 16, 2012
First, you are all assuming the facehugger introduces the alien 'seed' into the SJ the same way it did with humans. This is because that is the way we were taught in 1979. What if there is another way for the alien seed to get into the SJ? How many orifices does an SJ have? To answer this you need to know what the SJ is - and nobody does definitely.
I have my own theories, the word 'seed' playing a key role...
I think we may be shocked by what RS comes up with. He is inventing a new universe here. They are already making the toys ... I want the life-size SJ for my Birthday!

hmm^ interesting points..im going to goahead and bet that the face hugger implanted itself in the usual way regarding the space jokcey based on the exit wound in the bio suit near the chest...and we do know that the space jockeys are bipedal with 2 arms 2 legs....2 eyes....and a nose or a mouth judging by the trunklike hose...im guessing the face hugger got in through the mouth...and come on the space jockeys gotta be humanoid...theyre tall theyre blue they created us in their image...look at the annunaki

We had Google + on our news for a bout a month and a half a little while ago, but nobody was using it. The Facebook and Twitter are more popular at the moment. If people would use the Google+ then I'd consider bringing it back.

well said, and thats what i hit on or was trying to, to me there was always some kind of evil vibe to the thing, I don't know maybe cause of it being of GIGER DESIGN, but it's a BioMechanical Monstrosity or was at least to me all this time until I read that.
ReplyGuestAlien Movies ForumAlien Vault Declares The Space Jockey is benevolent and innocent.Feb 16, 2012
Then we go to Dan's original story talked to Cinefex when the film was made about how the resulting space jockey "I expected it to look horrible when you see it in the film, but then if you looked at it a bit closer, you'd discover that it didn't have the large teeth or the mandibles or any other thing that are characteristic of a carnivore - and then maybe you'd begin to imagine it as some totally non-violent herbivorous creature sailing around space."
Upon that there might be the question whether you find the elephant like skull of the thing to hold some idea of innocence to it and whether one might think it was a telescope rather than a gun that he was sitting at. I suppose we'll never actually find out which members of the production were talking about the entity looking unexplainably benign though apart from O'Bannon. They might have been watching this thing being built as a thing separate from the chamber set
well, by the end of the film production as it shows in Book of Alien,, since the derelict and the silo were merged, questions came about whether the space jockey had those spores in the cargo hold on purpose, if it was a cargo hold, and Ridley had started asking if the derelict was a freighter with the pilot carrying it's own youn or a battlewagon and soon down further paths of discussion, it started to become for Ridley a warmongering entity and by the time of the Alien laserdisc interview, something akin to the idea of one of the ancient gods of war like our idea of the ancient Roman god Mars.
At the end of the day what sort of creature is it that looks as if it's piloting a demon's tomb?
ReplyWmmvrrvrrmmAlien Movies ForumAlien Vault Declares The Space Jockey is benevolent and innocent.Feb 16, 2012
well, O'Bannon's thought the creature looked benign because it wasn't equipped as a carnivore and the only reason it was on the planetoid was as a space explorer with archeological interests and a need to warn others to stay away from the danger, and maybe the creature seemed more benign as an immobile entity with its semi foetal looking elephantine skull and as a sculpture alone, before the spores in the bowels of its ship became in Ridley's point of view its cargo and by the end of the production Ridley was discussing the idea that it was a battlewagon and something went wrong and years later, this creature in the seat was a member of a civilisation that were the gods of war like our ancient Roman god Mars.
I suppose Ridley wasn't too mournful about the entity. However I think Giger's space jockey cockpit painting with the light coming through the dome is to me a little more like what Ian Nathan was describing ".a lost soul staring into his telescope at the unreacheable heavens forevermore" than what is seen in the film where it seems that some people thought the telescope was a weapon

Okay, Spartacus, I scanned and uploaded the space jockey painting from my Giger's Alien book and replaced the old one because I didn't like the T that the person put in the corner of the previous one. Now you can make the assumption.

Awesome SJ head db! I read your post on the making of this. Well done!
I think it's interesting that the SJ has the elephantine snout / breathing apparatus.
I read somewhere that in man's pre-history, when humans came across a baby elephant skull, they thought it was from a pre-existing giant human race. This then 'substantiated' the age old myths of when 'giants roamed the earth' .
Oh but there I go, talking about myself again... lol
I hope Rizzle is right and Giger has been brought in to do more than a few murals.
Until relatively recently I thought the SJ telescope was a 'gun' to launch the bio-weapons we've heard so much about . Now, I've changed my mind. If Ridley sticks to the Giger portrayal, then the SJ's are just fodder for the real controlling entities...as in the Alien life cycle painting.... thx for that reminder Wmmvrrvrrmm ...

as for the credit issue I never said or attempted in any way to claim owner ship of all of this info and anyone who knows me here knows I never do that, in fact I go out of my way to give credit and always post links to the original article...in this case, I was mentally lazy and did not do it, it was completely un intentional. I also want to recommend to everyone not to ever over react about something unless you have ALL OF THE FACTS. That said, I posted this as a reference so people could get some of the facts straight for themselves with all of the mis information out there.
My sincere appologies to you once again if I offended anyone with my ommissions.

Dear Spartacus, I'm not too sure what to say about having the article posted this way, because I would be aiming for my own perfectionism in laying out all of the information and trying to get the all the citations down to meet the demands of people such as WalterHiller in this thread back here: (http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/399) and quite honestly my article has too much information going one way and then another in it for me to feel comfortable about in delivering in one post like this
But despite all the confusion which seems to be normal in the world of the internet, I want to say thanks for showing your interest and enthusiasm in the article and wanting to share it with everyone and I have been able to see the hundred plus thumbsups at Prometheus Movie 2012 Facebook page which probably gives me an idea that I might be doing something right and now a good few more people know something about the Sokar Funerary Bark and its relationship with the Space Jockey.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumUnlocking the origin & design of the Space Jockey !Feb 15, 2012
I also did some extra work on my own and checked all of your work for what it is worth to you, and it took me a long time...but I found that almost 100% of your material was accurate even when held up to comparative writtings done by Giger himself. In other words I rekognized very early on in the process that your stuff was "Dead Bang On The Money" and my research confirmed it.

Sparticus, I'm glad this was just an oversight. Good to see you back on this thread!
With this 'thesis' on the SJ, it is like Wmmvrrvrrmm got inside Giger's head and spelled out for us how Giger actually found the inspiration for the SJ... I am truly impressed!
W - I'm so glad you found us out here in Prometheus 'nerd-cronomicon' ... lol
Did either of you see my earlier post in this thread about what I think is a hint of a pyramid? I'd be interested in your take... If it's true, Ridley will now have the pyramid he was denied for budget reasons in Alien... and no doubt will put it to good use...
Cheers!

@Juxtapose - Yeah good point, it will be hard to beat the design of the original Xeno for sure! Yeah I agree about the Alien in Resurrection, it could've been a good idea if they pulled it off a tad better. . . I think a SJ based Xeno will definitly be stronger/larger then the "original" ones. Seeing as the dead SJ in the Derelict had one inside him, we can assume that was either a SJ based Xeno Queen or it happens during this movie. . .
