jbsmit3@gmail.comPrometheus ForumHoping for a novelisation of the film
I have read all Alien novels b4 seeing the movies. Alan Dean Foster writes them best! I hope to read Prometheus b4 I see the movie... the "let down" will be so much lessened. Not fair.... I expect great things from this movie. Maybe not the same as my screenplays (i wrote Alien 2 and a prequel) but from Ridley I expect only the BEST. Alan Dean Foster can deliver that in his interpretation of the screenplay. I am readin Sentenced to Prism right now (paperback, not Kindle). And it takes me aback..... I wonder if anyone in this forum has watched Alien and saw him stalking Lambert and Parker as they were heading to the storage locker for coolant. If you watch in slow-mo, as the pass the arches going towards the "landerr" to obtain coolant the center of the arch way is empty. Going to the coolant locker you can see the Alien turn his head towards them as they pass that arch way. Just wonderring if i'm the only one who ever noticed.... Please keep me in the lop. I'm just a "hick" from Lexington, KY - US Jbsmit3@gmail.com

@Rick - I like your "vaginal" opening name LOL! But yeah, I think the cavern must be a seperate space to what's within the Derelict ship as it curves massively into the distance. . . But this begs the question, why does the cave have similar architecure to the SJ ship??

have been reading this thread. To be honest you are all reading way way too much into this. Its just a continuity error. The egg chamber IS on the derelict. The fact that it is out of proportion is just a filming mistake. Nothing more to it than that. Deal with it. Move on.

You're missing the point High Priest, speculation and reading into things is the point many of these threads. We're doing it for enjoyment and not so we can hold anyone to account on revelation of the plot. Try it - it's pointless fun

Agreed Enderwiggin - However that is my speculation and reading into this thread. Valid, I'm sure you would agree.

Valid - indeed. However I suspect you're right and the egg chamber is actually on the ship, I doubt Giger and Scott had the ruler out when the Derelict was conceived.

Indeed, it is pointless fun! But i agree, Giger and Scott didn't have a ruler at hand when putting things together, and its definitely a filming mistake. And yes Rick, your point is entirely valid. Once again, we will have to wait and see what Prometheus has to offer on this subject...

I wonder if it is a filming mistake at all...I mean...Scott would have changed something there for the special edition they did afterwards if that were the case...No way he himself would have missed that let alone Giger...I think there may be an answer forthcoming during the last "8 minutes" of Prometheus.

We all know edits were missed and frankly... often missed while tuning movies to their final cut. If in fact the perspective was off and the egg chamber is in the ship (either way it will be great to see) there is still some explaining to do. If the eggs were there in the ship while it crashed I would think the would all be tossed about, and broken regardless of the strength of the hull of the ship. Of course their tech may make this possible, who knows. The lasers/beam could have been there the whole time and that was the only one that was still working. OR - The eggs were already there and this happens to be the only beam still working. Either way you would have to have a room that was specifically made for this purpose because I doubt that anything that we have seen that bleeds acid, falls through the floor and can lay eggs or transform the crew would be able to put in place tech that protects the environment or some "proximity warning" around the eggs like Kane encountered. I would like to think it is a chamber under ground that is used to store the eggs. Just MHO (Trivia in case anyone did not know, the blue laser beam was an effect borrowed from the rock band "The Who" that had a concert near by)

Yeah I know some filming mistakes happen but to film a man being lowered into a cavern which is obviously way more vast then what the ship appeared to be from the outside, seems more than just a mistake to me. . .

Hmm, my post did not load? If this doubles up I am sorry but I thought I added to this discussion? We all know films have missed errors that are not found during the final tuning before a movie is released. This may just be a big perspective issue that was not caught or there could be other explanations. I feel that the cavern is underground for a couple similar reasons. If the ship did crash I would think that all the eggs/cargo would be tossed around and there would be pieces all over the place. Perhaps they have enough sticking power to remain unscathed so that I do not know. The blue beam is a different story. If they eggs were already there on the ship and the beams were there to protect the environmental (evaporation?) then it would suggest damage or end of life for the other beams that would have been present. OR- It is a cavern and the eggs were already there protected by the beams. My problem is that anything we have seen so far that lays eggs and bleeds acid is not tech enough to place any protection around the "nest" other than natural barriers. Whatever broke out of the jockey, bled through the floor was not capable of placing electronics up for what ever reason they were there. Either way this room/cavern would have been made specifically for the purpose of storing the eggs or other biological materials. IMHO (trivia in case anyone want to know: The blue lasers used in Alien cam from the rock band "The Who". They were performing near by and Scott borrowed them for effects).

@Bazinga - I was gonna get to that point about how the eggs look like they were placed there by something/someone, be it a SJ or Queen Xenomorph. . . In that case you're right, the way they're spread out on the floor of the cavern indicates they can't be in the ship as if it crashed, they'd be all over the place or destroyed UNLESS - The ship landed safely and/or the cavern is in fact within the confines of the ship. Both of those last points are less likely in my opinion.

Personally I am looking forward to seeing Anton Yelchin as Odd Thomas, though I think someone should attempt to make Necroscope into a movie.

I did'nt even know their was follow up's...I was visiting my sister recently and she had a tun of old Koontz books....so I asked her if i could borrow a few and just randomly picked 3...."fear nothing", "Demon Seed" and ofcause Odd Thomas....I read all three in a space of just over a week....tho I have to say that Demon Seed (the revised version) was my favorite....I have read some of his other books over the years. I thought Odd Thomas was great tho and I am looking forward to reading the other novels in the series....I bet if the film adaptation does well then we can expect a new movie franchise!

I believe that the biomechanical suit is simply a means to an end for the SJ, the end being it can carry out exploration of planets and is essential to the operation of their technology/spaceships. Much like on Stargate Atlantis (random comparison I know), where the Wraith species share the same DNA as the spaceships they control. Via telepathy I think it is with them. . .

I think there's 4 chambers, the one on the left is open, and 4th is behind the chair. Crazy similarity with Alien sleep chamber Shambhala. Im sure its not just a coincidence. They also look like sarcophagus, you can see them in the star room also. This site has some good res images with more arrows http://studiogekko.blogspot.com/

If the SJ's are indeed as advanced as they seem, I doubt they'd need anymore than 1 or 2 crew to fly a ship such as the Derelict one. But I can see what ya mean, a ship that spacious looks like it's built for more than one or two.

The High PriestPrometheus ForumWhat happened to the rest of the crew of Derelict?
I think it is implied in Alien that the rest of the crew were turned into the Alien eggs ala Dallas and Brett on board the Nostromo - In fact looking at it there are some beautiful parallels between the SJ's and crew of the nostromo's fates. Also between the Derelict and Nostromo. Turned into Eggs, crew members experience Alien Birth (chestburster) acid burning through the decks. I personally liked the theory that the Space Jockey race was noble and peacful, and unfortunately, through whatever reason encountred the xenomorph, the crew got wiped out, but before termination they managed to put the warning beacon into place. By the time the Nostromo find it, the xenomorph or xenomorphs had long since died - However the crew of the derelict who all met a horrifc fate - lye there - preserved for an eternity - as faceguggers waiting for their next prey....Kane.
