Yes @The High Priest, certainly likely that the crew of the Derelict performed a metamorphosis to become eggs like Dallas. Regards

IMO, there was only crew member, and it was a delivery/drop ship mission to Earth gone wrong. The cargo...Vials & Vials of Xenomorph Terra-Former Units.

@spartacus - I agree that may be the story now. However at the time of making Alien it was the former....

in Alien, when kane is lowered down to were the eggs are, the only (living) eggs are protected by the blue boundary layer of light, there looks to be "Dead eggs" in the area before and after of that section, which would mean that the lower portion of the ship was a hatchery or something made the eggs on the ship, or a nest, but over time the life control system that keeps the the eggs moist and alive started to fade out thus leaving that narrow area that kanes discovers, also the sj room in alien, the platform has large tubes that dallas, lambert and kane must step over, that extend from the chair to the edge of the platform, on the promethus sj area, there are capsules, and a flatter floor?, hmmmmm, is it the same craft.....love this form.

reffugee...... that site is amazing.. thanks for the link. did anyone else read the leaked info about a space craft called Magellan. that the name appears on a door on one of the set peices. i think that the main ship is not called, prometheus...it must be megallan... calling the ship prometheus and sending it to meet the gods is a bit like building a new boat to look at iceburgs and calling it the Titanic.... as Prometheus implies that we will face the wrath of the gods... so i reckon that promethues is just the title of the film, and not the ship.... has anyone else said this...sorry if they have dont kill me... i love this site... im beyond excited about the film..... i should be sketching in work but i find myself on here all day!!!

hyper sleep?... i thought it would be far more alienesque, far more in keeping with biotech/body-horror themes if the ship grew its pilot who's sole existence from birth to death was the voyage & mission. it's conscious the whole time , nervous system integrated with the ship; feels pain when the ships trajectory is incorrect or asteroids strike the hull, hunger when running low on fuel etc. then the real passenger is then born at the destination using the no longer needed pilot as an incubator :) i'm really disappointed by the suit idea

Maybe they had bad burgers laced with ammonia. @ HybridVigor: They may or may not be sleep chambers. They could just be where the biomechanical suits are kept... or perhaps grown.

There aren't as many opportunities for dramatic interraction, if your main antagonist is permanently attached to the furniture. On the other hand, if the SJs could biomechanically merge/unmerge with other forms of their technology at will..........that could still be very creepy, and I'm guessing, that's how it will work.

SpartacusPrometheus ForumTerraforming and Destruction or Vice Versa
I was waching the Ancient Aliens series again the other day and I went back to the 5th epiode I think it is in season 1and there is mention of the Egyptians burying {In 2 massive sarcophaguses} the crushed and composted bones etc of some species with a mix of human and animal materials they did not ever want returning to Earth. Anyways, there was this theory apparently back then that The G-ds {"Star People"} would eventually rid the earth of all ofhumanity so as to start over. I think more and more these days that a lot of this film is going to tie into a lot of the Ancient Astronaut Theories.

well i think that if they wanted to destroy the earth they would try more than once ... and with their technology they would do it pretty fast... we can destroy ourselves more than once! if we wanted and not just with nuclear weapons. If shaw and vickers really stopped them they would even be more angry and twice willing to aniquilate us... In regard of ancient aliens why do you think after so many millions or thousand of the years they never made real contact with us?

Yup Jux I have seen it but I haven't read the book,so I can't tell you how true it is. (it is ok btw, not great but ok).i love Koontz but his work generally doesn't transfer to celluloid very well.Try and get hold of Watchers, great read. Cool...thanks for the trailer....after watching it I think I will skip the movie....lol...Their was no crash test dummy in the book....however he does find someone or something to act as his hands.... I would strongly suggest u read the book tho....rather brutal, clever, disturbing but also surprisingly funny....just stay far away from the original 1977 book...Dean himself says .."the book itself was more of a clever idea than a clever novel. Reading it recently, I winced so much...." So what he did was rewrite the book 20 years later and in the "Afterword" of this version he writes....." Here is an entirely new version, which I hope comes closer to fulfilling the promise of the novel's premise." Obviously the movie which came out in the 70' was based on the original novel. The stories are similar to a degree. I have read watchers and several of his other novels....recently I also read "Odd Thomas".....also highly recommended!!

The movies not that great but like a lot of seventies scfi it had some great ideas attached and many of those early seventies films and sixties scfi could use a makeover and be brought up to date with a reasonable budget and we could have some very good sc fi.

@Alteredstate I was just thinking today that the movie could do with a remake....the book got a remake after all and even tho i never read the original....it seems Dean thinks it's way superior to the original.....the only thing I saw of the movie was the trailer and that robotic crash test dummy was a huge turn off....omg and I nearly pissed myself laughing at the end of the trailer when the guy goes in that corny voice....."Julie Christie carries the demon seed.....Fear for her!"

I absolutely loved the trailer for "Machete" in the beginning of "Planet Terror".....it poked such fun at that classic seventies marketing u just mentioned....I really enjoyed Planet Terror as well....a real cult classic IMO....sadly I did not think that Machete really lived up to the trailer.. ;/....but it was ok i guess?

.....the computer voice and the dialogue it delivers in that god awful trailer does not sound like the entity in the book ( tho the version I read is not the one the movie is based upon)....it is way to serious....Adam Two in the book has a weird quirky and almost geeky sense of humor....yet at the same time he is obviously this extremely possessive crazy demented monster....reading the novel he his almost likable... but then suddenly he does something monstrous and u realize....oh no shit this computer is f#cked up!.....they should really do a remake!

ZetaReticuliPrometheus ForumInspiration for Face Huggers?
I personally distance the facehuggers from any crustacean/insect analogy. I mean just one aspect of it for me that sets it apart are the 'fingernails' at the end of each appendage on the original designs. Pure Giger cadaverous nightmare and nothing to do with mere earthly zoology. But that king crab is a magnificent specimen notwithstanding.

Those legs especially are very face huggerish .....what fascinates me the most is that it appears to have 10 legs....then again I suppose the 2 front ones act as pincher's rather than legs?

SpartacusPrometheus ForumInspiration for Face Huggers?
some very interesting info on your very interesting topic... Giger's original design for the facehugger was a much larger creature with eyes and a spring-loaded tail. Later, in response to comments from the filmmakers, Giger reduced the creature's size substantially. At first Giger assumed that the facehugger would wrap around the outside of the astronaut's helmet, but Scott decided that it would have far more impact if the facehugger were revealed once the helmet was removed. Scott and Giger realised that the facehugger could burn through the helmet's faceplate with its acid blood; subsequent redesigns of the space helmet included a far larger faceplate to allow for this. Dan O'Bannon initially conceived the facehugger as somewhat resembling an octopus, possessing tentacles. However, when he received H. R. Giger's designs, which substituted tentacles with fingerlike digits, he thought Giger's design concept superior. Since no one was available at the time, O'Bannon decided to design the facehugger prop himself. The technical elements of the musculature and bone were added by Ron Cobb. Giger's initial design for the smaller facehugger had the fingers facing forward, but O'Bannon's redesign shifted the legs to the side. When the foam rubber sculpture of the facehugger was produced, O'Bannon asked that it should remain unpainted, believing the rubber, which resembled human skin, was more plausible.

@centaurian_slug I love theory that proposes those various planets are actually earth at different time of its natural history. The ships, Nostromo & Sulaco, are equipped with time travel capability. The crew is of course unaware. That's why they have androids on-board whose loyalty to the Company is machine-like, unwavering, can be easily programmed.

XenophobePrometheus ForumTheories about derelict!!!?
Ahoy Wheresbasky! 1. When the Derelict ship appears to be standing upright, I think it's "docking" or launching perhaps. But the odd shape of the ship begs the question of how it flies/launches and lands. . . 2. Not sure how to answer that one :) Lol. 3. Yeah the Xenomorphs and SJ's definitly share a biomechanical background by the looks of it, I just can't wait to see what the link is between the two species!

JeffomorphPrometheus ForumTheories about derelict!!!?
The picture where the ship is standing upright is actually how the ship came down after the crash/explosion in the air. If you look carefully at the image where Shaw is looking up at the ship, you can see debris floating around in the air. The other more overhead shot is even more obvious that it's just crashed. You can see the gouge where the left "horn" hit the ground and there are fires and debris scattered all over the ground. So IMO the answer is 4) Ship landed upright after the mid air collision/eplosion.

Ahhh!!! so the image is the moment of impact then??? I don't think it remained upright,as in the trailer we see Shaw and Co running from the falling derelict under a shower of debris?.......hold up,let me guess the falling ship is an event later in the movie?? It was worth a punt though, just from that image alone.
