I always used to look on H. R. Giger's great design as being the decayed, skeletal, biomechanical REMAINS of the 'Spacejockey' alien, rather than it's true original features, especially it's 'skull'...and imagined it to be an unlucky member of a possibly benign race of beings that had rotted away and 'fossilized' into the 'seat structure' over an untold number of years.... ...but over the years Sir Ridley has speculated that it might have had a more aggressive agenda with those 'eggs', and I've been happy to go along with that. However, I never once looked on that design as being a biomechanical 'spacesuit and helmet'... I can certainly get onboard with the biomechanical 'spacesuit' notion if it doesn't include making the 'skull' portion a 'helmet', because I'd rather that part of the original design to be the rotted remants of an actual as-yet-unseen alien race.... The last thing I want to find out is that Noomi or one of the other cast members end up inside a 'spacesuit and helmet' that looked like the overall 'Spacejockey' design! I'll leave you with these thoughts - [i] Firstly, although I used to assume that the 'warning' signal eminated from the 'seat structure' that the 'Spacejockey' was found sitting on, it was never confirmed that this was the case in the original movie...so the 'warning' signal might have been set off ELSEWHERE inside the 'Derelict' spacecraft instead...or even somewhere NEARBY it... ...so instead of being the piece of technology that transmitted an ongoing 'warning' signal, the 'seat structure' could have just been a 'pilot-seat' incorporating a 'gun-emplacement', as there may be a section that opens above it that we never saw onscreen...[/i] [i]Secondly, although Ripley eventually deciphered the 'distress' signal as being a 'warning' signal (just as 'The Company' did before her), I'm hoping that the new movie doesn't show it as being a 'warning' signal sent by a 'Human' inside that 'Spacejockey's spacesuit using 'alien-esque' technology to send a 'warning' to other Humans... ...but instead hope that it does indeed show the 'warning' signal as being sent by an alien-looking 'Spacejockey' from that 'seat structure' to warn other members of it's OWN race to beware...or alternatively, hope it shows an alien-looking 'pilot'/'gunner'-type 'Spacejockey's last position before it was attacked from within...[/i]

i think the key is about the "trasmission " ...was a warning that sounded like "stay away !! dangerous things aboard !!" ...or a menace ( like its in some european translations ) " we come to destroy your world !! you are doomed !!" ...or a simple SOS " dudes ive crashed ... send help ive some pain in the stomach " ... the tone of the trasmissione would give us a key to understand the behaviour of the space jockeys race

Maybe the sj's are good guys but we piss them off enough to turn evil.

Y'know, one of the things that still niggles me (there's a few!) about Sir Ridley's 'Director's Cut' of ALIENS...is the fact he changed the very creepy-sounding 'warning' signal sound effect heard on the original deleted scene to the current non-creepy sound when he incorporated the scene... Spartacus, a Chestburster would have burst from the SJ, not a facehugger. Furthermore the HOLE was either made by the facehugger on the way up (doubtful as it would have alerted the SJ) or the Chestburster/Alien on the way down. Either way we will most likely see this in the end of Prometheus.

your right, that's what I meant, My Bad. It is clearly a hole made from the acid for blood theory by whatever creature{s} came out of the Jockey!!!

No Prob, That said I'm a little confused that no-one has commented on the post I made earlier in this thread, which with a little thought into how the alien propogates makes a whole lot of sense. BTW, can everyone stop refering to SJ's as "Growers", that is the worst sci-fi name I have ever heard. Whats next refering to the alien as "Planters", come on!

Thanks folks, for all your thoughts on this matter, which were enlightening. Still...I'm interested in hearing more theories. I believe Ridley said something about that space jockey's back-story being very relevant to Prometheus.

My bad, that is/was their original name..."Growers", because that is what they do, Harvest planets and it is the name given to them bvy their creator John Spaihts. now they are called... ..."Engineers"... I apologize for that. That's what I will use from now on.

Hmm interesting... I heard a rumour a while back that he was going to be 'pushed out' of the credits so other creature designers working on the film could take credit / receive any awards given. I don't have a source for this, I just remember reading it somewhere on the web. Flashback to Alien 3...there were crediting disputes there. AD (Amalgamated Dynamics), the design studio working on the creature got full credits for the 'Dog Alien'.

Yeah the Alien3 crediting mistake did not go well with Giger at all. He was furious if I remember correctly, and he severed ties/relations with studios. Though I would not be surprised of he kept lines of communication open with Ridley. Possibly he offered some help to Ridley, Ridley told the studio, studio accepted on the premis that Giger stays uncredited. But it still all boils down to there being a very unpleasant relationship between Giger and Fox.

If he has worked on the film (and it does look like he has in some capacity from the stills and footage released) then I hope he receives proper credit. His treatment while working on Alien 3 was complete BS.

I believe there is NO way this time that Ridley allows this to happen yet again. He {Giger} had a massive law suit promptly settled out of court after Resurrection came out and he was not credited for the Alien design. I think it came close to happening the same way on Alien 3 for which he made thousands of drawings and paintings and designs for and for the dog alien creature and of which very very few were used because the studio...FOX...did not want to spend the money on to build the sets necessary for them.

that url does not work for me...but i know something nasty is gonna happen to her....personally i adore Charlize Theron....she is from my home country (South Africa) and i am very proud of what she has manged to achieve throughout her career...i would ten times rather c her as the protagonist in this movie....but from what I can tell she is either gonna die a horrible death or she is gonna be some kinda robotic thing send by the company...or perhaps she will be the villain....and change into an evil alien xeno prototype send by the jockeys to investigate .....as some made up plot I read before suggested....witch ever way...i am glad she is in this movie and i am sure she will play her character to the T....she is a very accomplished actress ...be sure to expect an amazing performance!

She is a good actress ...a very good one ... but for some reasons she is the character i fear the most .... she is a well known actress in a role that can be a stereotype ( the classic corporate manager that think only about profit ) and she is so beautiful that her apparence is a stereotype alone . It will not be an easy task to create something original and deep .

true...that's why i doubt that she will be the protagonist....but she did mention that her character changes quite dramatically as the movie progresses....whether she becomes a good girl or a acid bleeding abomination...well only time will tell?

When I heard she was gonna be in this I was stunned, I have such a Major Adult Crush On her. She's a FABULOUS actress as well. I guess "some girls" got all the beauty and the brains. She is a walking talking testament to the existence of some sort of a god, LOL cause only a God IMO could make woman that special.

the original title for alien was gonna be "Star Beast"....witch in my opinion would have been a very lame title....don't ask me where i read this....but i remember it cause i almost choked with laughter when i read it...it was one of those popcorn facts...

When Alien was released in JAPAN for instance, It's Title there translated to something like... "The 8th Passenger Of The Nostromo". "Star Beast" was the name Dan O'Bannon orginaly penned to his original story which eventually became "Alien".

Who or what is the "8th Passenger" ? 7 crew members, so is it Jonsey or the Xenomorph? Slighly OT, but its got me thinking now.

remember that this "leaked plot " had all the "sure" facts wrong ...wrong actors , wrong actors names ( and there was no need to put them ), wrong situations and a guy that have said to have made it for fun ...he did wrote From IMDB: "...thought I'd try my hand at putting together my own plot summary based on what little we know and what I can see happening." ...so guys the star beast plot is fake ( of course thats dont mean that everything is wrong , we do speculations too )

The Star Beast could still be a part of Prometheus, If so I think it will be something completely original. OT - If any Star Wars fans have played "The Force Unleashed" they might know what im talking about. The main character in those games is called "Starkiller". In an early draught for Star Wars, Luke Skywalker was known as Luke Starkiller. What i'm trying to say is that old ideas can always be brought back to the table and looked at again, possibly to become something completely new.

i hope not spartan ..that will be a bit too star trek to me . maybe he is a scientist that along some mercenaries and technicians meet a gruesome fate and that story is told with flashbacks ...maybe the prometheus is the second ship ..and wilson was on the Magellan , a ship that met a sad fate . i think the word "cocooned " is tied with the image of Dallas and PArker we have well in mind . I wonder from where IMDB got that definition .

IMO, I dont think the "cocooned man" is anything to do with any of the characters from Alien, reason being is that Prometheus is set before Alien. I also dont think that he will play any major role in the film, then again I could be wrong.

i think that when she said" im the heart "she dont mean she is the core ( even if probably she is ) but that she rappresent the emotional part , the sentiments over the brain . Maybe someone else is the muscles ( pearce ? elba ? marshall green ? ) someone other is the brain ( fassbender ? theron ? )

I'm pretty Sure Elizabeth Shaw is set to be the main character in the film. The way Ridley Scott "unveils" her in the comic con interview got me thinking on that and after reading the article I previously posted. OT - Researching this film has now become an obsession for me, as a life long Alien fan, there were always certain questions I wanted answering about the franchise and hopefully Prometheus will answer at least some of them. I wonder if FOX will do a viral marketing campaign? It will be like Cloverfield all over again if they do.

yes but remember that ridley MAYBE will answer only to questions raised by Alien ..not by the sequels .
