Joylitt you must grade (B) on a curve.  :-). It's been a while, but when he set himself on fire then swam around with squid lady I actually questioned what I was doing with my life.  Agree with you on the W brothers...

I wish I could un-watch everything the Wachowski brothers did post Matrix, including "Speedracer", "Cloud Atlas" and "Jupiter Rising".

Spearfish I don't remember "Dagon" being that bad for a B movie.

@Lone If I was in an alien ship transmitting a beacon and a horny psychopathic synthetic was coming after me I would sing it badly too, because of much stress.

Guardians vol 2 - kinda a kiddie twist with random really NOT kiddie parts...

The Mummy

Judge Dredd

Flash Gordon

SW Force Awakens, E1, EVI

Dagon

Anything Percy Jackson...

I could go on forever!  Most people suck at sci fi!  Would be interesting to flip the question - what are the best?  Two parts to sci fi and it is an equation!  Need action grounded in science/tech and a good fictional story.  Anyone can make a fictional story with no scientific rules applied and just get artsy nonsense.

I don't think you were too far off with the axe blade reference above Spearfish in regards to being similar to a hit by the tail. A tough booger a neomorph seems to be.

I guess that it is just a CGI programmer (if that's the correct term?) not being familiar with physics and anatomy.  And they probably didn't count on a group of people analyzing the finer details - which is fun.  The force needed to cleanly split the mandible down the cleft in the chin would surely have just resulted in the entire mandible coming off (not splitting), or depending on where the animal was exerting force, would have separated the head from the neck.   At least that seems more plausible to me.

You are most welcome Lone.

Thank you Davefried81.

It's amazing what you find if you mash your face in something for a while. We were commenting on it earlier in the year and I was producing images in reverse value to try and find details. None were seen but I noticed the wires in the image back then.

Thank you so much for commenting Spearfish. I saw on Ati's thread where you described the neomorph exiting through flesh and that it didn't look like a product of evolution because of the inconsistencies in how it exited the host....good comment.

I agree.

The mutagen-based organisms seem to be "designed" opposed a product of natural selection. My best attempt to answer the neomorph dying from the rifle is the neomorph's inability to regenerate fast enough after each additional shot from Captain Oram.

That had been a very long day for Captain Oram and I can imagine all clips may have been used on the neomorph had it not expired when it did.

From David 8's drawings, he seems to be really interested in the shellfish double-ribbing and lateral ridges in the extremities' bones....so, the strength of the tail you mention above may be due to these design elements.

Going through the spine can't be easy but a spike-backed demon has a leg up on his smooth-back counterparts when going that route.

The jaw situation is puzzling, maybe funny, but definitely puzzling.  An injury like that is similar to what you would get from a small-mid caliber rifle impact.  Or maybe even from an axe strike.  So looking at a 4lb axe head swung at 70mph gives you ~650 foot-pounds of force at impact.  Similar to the impact force of an xm193 5.56 @ ~250yards.  Long story short, that is a hell of a hit to take in the jaw.  So we can conclude the infant neo is pretty durable to create similar instantaneous damage, especially when swimming through flesh is not an environment for high speeds...AND it was able to do so while not damaging itself!?  Impressive, but conflicts with the fact that it was pretty easy to damage (fatally) with a gunshot to the chest.  So is it durable, or not?  Going through the spine is one thing, since you could conclude it passed through a gap between vertebrae.  But cleanly and explosively through a jaw bone has me scratching my head :-). Oh, and what was it pushing/pulling against to generate this incredible force?  Equal and opposite reactions apply so that is another law physics that doesn't seem to apply here.

There is also a mindset of what "HOT" is. In Prometheus- she was not hot. In this video, she was hot. To me, there is a difference between attractiveness and being hot.

That said, time to watch Full Metal Jacket- how's that for a switch?

"Why was this called Alien again? This thing is more of a corporate thriller a la Tom Clancy."

Agreed Tiwaz.

I wanted to read more about Engineer corporate espionage opposed to Earthly examples. That is my personal preference but not a complaint. It is still a great book so far. I'm more than half finished with the book and I do enjoy the technology descriptions.

Yes Cerulean Blue. I'm looking forward to the Engineer cultural reaction to the events on Paradise. I hope what the Engineers do in response will make the LV-223 Engineer look like a camp counselor.

David 8 showed us what he can do with their weaponry...now I'd like to see the Engineers operate their own weapons once agitated.

SenseOfDoubt

Very many thanks for this clarification. I am on holiday currently and have lent both discs to friends who were eagerly awaiting its release.

I will check it out when it is returned to me. To be honest when you first look at the extras menu they seem very thin. How odd to sub menu them under Planet 4. I happen to believe (now I know it is included) that Advent is important and so my perception that it was excluded was a reaction to its importance. Knowing it is in the public domain suggest this is the lead into W-Y. Maybe in the mayhem on Origae 6 David tries to escape with his babies and irony of ironies being infected, in away that has yet to be explained, in an act of redemption sets off the warning beacon which W-Y "ignore" whereas Ripley does not.

If W-Y are involved in the narrative of the next movie then I suspect they are also aware of the significance of the Jockey and its Cargo before boarding Ash on the Nostromo that of course has implications to the canon and aliens but to make the events of A L I E N and the prequels from W-Y POV coincidental after Advent seems highly unlikely.

It also opens the idea that the Jockey is a new entrant character from W -Y.

Thanks again, much appreciate your clarification.

These are great. Thank you Ati

It is so very interesting to see what evolved into the movie from the story boards above. Small changes in concept make such a difference on screen. I do prefer the mote swarm used in the film opposed to an infected mosquito shown in concept.

Well, David is not perfect & he knows it, but he is driven by the perfection of the Xenomorph & will stop at nothing to achieve his goal of perfecting it.  I suppose he is doing it for his dead god, Peter Weyland?  I read a lot of Nietzsche, Kant, Rousseau, Machiavelli, Plato, etc back in college 1989-1991 Political Science.  I have forgotten more than I can remember, but Nietzsche is a good one for ol' David the 'Super Boy' android!  Take it away Big Dave!!!

@Spearfish, it's when Tennessee is mending the solar sail, and his helmet gets spammed by the signal from the alien planet.

I believe the image flashed around the time Tennessee closed his eyes from the signal volume in his helmet Spearfish as he was reattaching the sails disturbed by the charged-particle burst.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumIt was Walter NOT David

Well its either a lack of thought by RS etc to make such a oversight, that would not add up to latter... i.e his Speech Malfunction... or a clever piece added so that it gives a bit of AMBIGUITY so we may Question is this David or Walter?  So it does give some debate.

But RS had confirmed as Svanya said that it is David.

"Sadly, I neither hear nor see any evidence of Walter appearing again at this point. I really hope to be wrong"

The only Clue i have DK is from RS when he said about David is off to the Planet... we can only assume Origae-6 (could instead be LV-426/LV-223) but i assume Origae-6 and he speaks of 3-4 Parties that would be arriving...

One of which will be the Engineers after they return to Planet 4/Paradise and find the destruction... so it Safe to Assume Engineers arrive there and find out what happens and then they go off to Find David etc.

So we have to ask if David is off to Origae-6 which is 7.5 years away from Planet 4 for the Covenant Ship.... we have to ask HOW DO THE ENGINEERS Find where David will be going?

Do they arrive and then detect the Covenant Ship well a ship, this means they arrive not far after or are able to detect a Ship and think thats got to the be the $£"%£"^£$^ lets get them... but depending when they arrive to Paradise/Planet 4 will determine how far the Covenant is away..

So if they arrive 3 years latter, the Covenant will be like 3.5 years within its journey time and looking how far that is from Paradise/Planet 4 and so it would be say XXXX Light years away.. lets say 100LY then how many other Human ships could be within 100LY too and so how would the Engineers know which Human Ship within XXXX distance is the one responsible?

Did David leave clues to Origae-6 on Planet 4?  What can the Engineers Salvage?

And it cant be the Engineers arrive earlier where the Covenant has to be the only ship close by, because surely the Engineers would intercept the Covenant in Space and that Ends Davids plans..

Nope... David has to arrive or be very close to his destination by the time the Engineers arrive on Paradise/Planet 4

And so we have to ask how do the Engineers know to go to Origae-6? or that David would be there.

The only LOGICAL Answer i have is via Walter. ;)
