Michelle Johnston you are spot on as usual. Of course my vision leans more to the materialistic. But there will be a human side to this story too, and a synthetic side. And in the end a moral dilemma, because humans and robots may get to a point when they will be in the position of the engineers. Do you own your soul forever? Could the spiritual be a phase you go through? Could you really ever understand God? There will definitely be a non violent encounter between humans and engineers.
David 8's comments on the Engineer's ways certainly makes me think there is much more to their horrible existence ali81.
That is another reason I'm excited about next month's prequel book release. It was a little hypocritical for David 8 to point a finger with his compassion record but I can't wait to find out what David 8 knows of the Engineer's ways.
We might get an answer as to which planet was shown (and where it is) on the opening of Prometheus too.
@dk
O_O Oh man! Now I can't decided whether I should wait to watch it with my friends, or go ahead and dive into the extras without them, lol.
VivisectedEngineer I plan to rewatch tonight and only got through about 1/4 of the extras.
plus their vengeance isn't aimed solely at david, his creators and the humans on the covenant will also pay
I don't think there are anymore blank versions of david or any active ones for him to download himself into so I think he can be destroyed. remember a typical engineer just twisted and popped his head off with little effort
Movie fan Elizabeth Shaw is David's experiment, a sort of a matrix which he hopes will help link the xenomorph and the human lineages.
so, it has been cut from the film, then there is no shield. so ur point on it is mute??
Do you mean the shield and satellites being canon? Not canon at all, since it was all cut. The movie basically made all that out to be a really bad storm.
I can definitely see why Ridleys comments would get u thinking, I got me thinking for a moment as well. id still say for the plot it would be earth. though a thought, maybe the opening scene is planet 4, and those who seeded earth were their offspring? a weird way for the engineers to procreate AND seed worlds after a point in time where they have grown tired of sacrificing themselves?
Thank you everybody who liked this. I value your opinion very highly. The objective of my story would be first and foremost, to "redeem" the xenomorph, rethink the role of David, and finally to incorporate new ideas that won't contradict any Alien movie or prequel. I think it is time for real sci-fi, drifting away from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and going back to hard sci fi. Simply a much needed change of tone. The story would span 2000 years, following two different storylines.
I'm all in on IRaptus 's Grand Scale Trilogy idea, replete with those individuals mentioned being, quote, "in the room".
Lol @ joylitt stepping on Jonesy 's tail!
Tough call dk , but I'd have to go with Covenant.
I've just bought the DVD and haven't gotten to watch all the special features yet.
My friends and I are planning a little Covenant viewing party this weekend.
ur so right monster my man. Prometheus opened the universe right up. the general is going after the covenant then he plans to go to earth and finish the job he was tasked with.
Well, now I see why their budget went so high, but its a shame we didn't get to see the "quality" come through because apparently it ended up like shite on film after all that work. How else do you explain getting mostly CGI for the main print?
@dk
Still too soon to tell, unfortunately! I'm just under 11 weeks, and gender can't be discerned until 16 weeks. I do want to know - I'd like to find out with one of those gender-reveal cakes the ones that're pink or blue on the inside. I'm always in favor of any excuse for cake.
We've told my husband's family!
I told two friends at work, my first day back for professional development. One of them stood up in the middle of the library and made a big announcement during a staff meeting so now the entire school faculty knows.
That's actually fine because right afterwards a bunch of people volunteered to help me out if need be, or cover my duty if I had morning sickness. I probably never would have figured out how to tell anyone otherwise, and my friend probably knew that :P
Then I told all my temple friends.
I haven't told anyone in my family yet though, lol. ...Not my mom, dad, step-mom, nor any of my sisters... They all live at least four hours away from me, so it's not impractical. I love my family a lot but... if one of them finds out they all will, and some of them are literal David-level psychopaths...
"Thank you for the great discussion on black goo forms ali81."
Oh no ali81...I was sincere in regards to the discussion. I was sarcastic-huffy earlier in the topic when discussing the planets but please know I appreciate the contribution from you.
Black goo is definitely on topic but I wanted to point out Kethol's topic above on the subject because it is so thorough. For real, thank you and please discuss as you wish.
"yes ridley says he gets annoyed everyone automatically puts it on earth and true, it could be anywhere and just showing us the process. but then why not earth if, if the plot of Prometheus is humans, created on earth, are searching for our makers?"
Ridley Scott's comments were why I was convinced that the opening scene of Prometheus was not Earth.
"From within each seed, comes the promise of a flower".
When the urns melt, the black goo sort of churns about and flows out down the sides, onto those worms. I wouldn't say the stuff "swarms" dude. When David rains it down on the engineers, it just rains down on them....like rain would....also blowing in the wind. Rain never comes straight down. These are drops of black goo, not insects. Sorry dudes.
How does one get revenge on a synth?
Can David be killed? Wonder if he has back up bodies on Earth/Mars. His 'Soul' is probably uploaded. The Engineers might think they killed him(after catching the Covenant).....Best the Engineers destroy the Covenant and then Earth.
I'd probably have Walter kill the general...Protecting Earth and maybe his wayward brother?
So many plots to be written!
Definitely Prometheus.
cheers iraptus, like I say I can be computer illiterate at times and not sure how to create those individual links
when the urns explode, the contents does appear to swarm yogi. it is though more inconsistencies on the topic of the black goo that are hard to come down on one side or the other. we have the sacrificial goo which seems to bubble n move, then the goo that spills out of the urns that nothing swarms out of, then the bombing scene where it 'appears' to swarm. we need something definitive from RS on screen to explain
@ Kethol, when you have evidence, your arguments are very strong. But when you try to work things out on your own....Jeez do you get it wrong.
Wow! Really well done. Pure horror.
More please!
@ Kethol
There you go again, inventing canon with no evidence. Where did anyone say that the black goo forms into creatures directly? Show me the source for your argument. The motes are not black goo! They are insect-like spores from mutated fungus. Macro view means zoomed out view. Zoomed out, those little midges look like a black blob, always changing it's shape. Please understand what you are reading. Also where do you get the idea that it's the black goo bursting out of the engineers? I see those as parasites which were quickly formed within them, as part of their rapid black goo mutations. You really can't admit to being wrong can you?
monster, thanks. I think walter should survive and the fact he reactivated after davids first attack shows he is capable of surviving.
iraptus, yea theyr gna be mighty pissed. the neomorph is an abomination I think but what about the deacon? resembles the mural which also depicts what I think are engineers giving birth to them, would it be viewed as an abomination u think?
Prometheus for Zombie Fifield and Shaw's baby and the Juggernaut crashing.....
Alien:Covenant is hard core...what a ride...Going to have to watch it another 20 times before I can put in a verdict.
but ur right, there was no sign of acid burns. though I think bishop covers this in aliens. I know aliens hasn't happened yet but surely as RS has seen it, it may be a small addition to answer this. after bishop examines the facehugger he tells ripley something about after the creatures death something neutrolizes the acid. though david doesn't have any original xenos in his lab, yet the facehugger should be acidic. I think once it had been dead for some time the acid would have dissipated and would not be harmfull maybe?
Very cool!
I think it works well.
Love that Walter is alive!
Yeah totally agree and I think we will see the Engineers on the offensive in Awakening.
They're copped David's genocide, the loss of at least 3 ships (2 juggernauts and a scorpion-tail mothership) and the abominations of a Deacon and Neomorphs due to human tampering.
They'll come with the thunder
hahaha he was a butcher of all species mate, 'if it bleeds, I will dissect it' hahaha
Originally, a big centipede thing was gonna burst out of him as well. Probably similar to the trilobite that came from Shaw via Holloway.

IRaptus and dk. Genitalia and pretzels...I'm dying laughing. And we wonder why these movies are not mainstream.
To sum that up...These arrogant, pale, tall muscular dudes flew down in pretzel peckers and covered us with oil and we mutated.
Yes BigDave. I'm so glad they didn't use the pyramids as ships. To me, it was a disappointment to hear that it was considered.
Thank you for the concept art Timmy the ultramorph.
iraptus, thanks. I had prologue/ opening scene in mind. this way we see the engineers motives for chasing david and being a part of awakening. I also tried to put some strength into the engineers yet keep the danger element in the neomorph. its not really a threat but if it stalks and ambushes it can take an engineer down. the general was definitely an attempt to make the engineers feared as well. I thought Prometheus and covenant showed them in a not so strong species light
I'm not sure but David 8's lab didn't look melted and he was a neomorph butcher in there.
Yes Yog Sothoth. Millburn's salad days were over once he stepped off the Prometheus.
But it just looked like a big snake. I guess that suit is snake proof, so Milburn thought "What the hell..let's go in for the stroke" with a side helping of hypnotism from the creatures odd movements. He has no idea that a snake could snap his arm in 2, get into his helmet and orally fuck him. Poor dude.
Right again ali81. The blurry figure looks a little like a Deacon with a really bad head wound.
Looking closer, each side of the "head" appears uniform (similar dips on the edge) and the circular/oval dark colorations on the David 8 drawing seem to match (vaguely). It is tough to make out with confidence.
