Glad you liked it Kethol and really sorry you have to whine about "bug" fans wanting Ridley to tell a decent story. The general public spoke to which one can't ignore, sorry again. As Joylitt says and I agree, it's a great looking and sounding film with very bad characters and storytelling. The actors in both prequels are fine it's that Sir Ridley gives them aweful speaking and terrible decision making. I think fans will see someday that a competent director can have Xenomorphs and an intelligent plot mixed in. Maybe some actual suspense or even horror. Hoping Ridley either sees the light or hands the keys off.

Starlogger -

What an amazing observation regarding the sets.

Take A:C for instance - Now one of the big let downs was the lack of dialogue commenting on those amazing surroundings.

Some of the greatest sets built yet the actors just walk by them as if they werent there.

So your theory fits because if RS does work that way that may explain the lack of dialogue because the sets were built while the script was written and so may not of emphasised the importance of a particular set because the story had its own, SIMILAR path

Nathan Adler -  I wouldn't refer to them as Flute Gods, as that would reduce Engineers to being musically motivated, and that seems too feeble considering everything we know. It appears that Engineers use flutes/recorders as a tool, and the harmonies played are more algorithmic, but with a cute jingle.

A god is typically immortal, engineers are not, therefore they are not gods, but gardeners as Ridley Scott mentioned. People need to stop referring to them as Gods. It is David who is the 'God' in this story, everything else, except the Xenomorph, is inferior to David.

I'm Atheist BTW and a graduate student who respects the actual evidence of science, not religion.

Any theory where we end up getting a lovely pic of the Prometheus mural, showing the Bird Faced Character is ok with me!!

How wonderful it would be to know the relationship of this creature to the Engineers. I like to think it is somehow genetically related to the first Egg that was formed.

Being birds lay eggs and a Bird Face creature - just off that no science or evidence!;)

Either way i am as intrigued as ever when i see that pic.

Thank You Zhalaya

cuponator3000 - I agree with you. But the absolute movie needs a lot of money. If Fox does not see that, they're blind.

So, I guess it is looking like the box-office numbers will leave Covenant just about breaking even. Which is a little better than a lot of people were expecting (I think.)

Then, as Kethol said with that first quote, the game has changed. There is a lot of money to be made in the long run with TV, streaming, Blu-ray (and what not), etc.

I can't be sure, but with the way this franchise has been treated so far, I am expecting a sequel to this no matter what, really, so now I can only hope that Ridley and Fox put a little bit less of an emphasis on fan reaction and just make the absolute ebest movie possible.

Let 's imagine that the engineer discovers the bodies of the robot Walter and Shaw, they may resurrect them with their strange technology to interrogate them (as in the film Prometheus with the head of the engineer).

David has declaimed the anger of engineers and may be creators of the engineers. Will ingerniers punish David by capturing him and manipulating his robotic stucture?

The flute must have some greater meaning in the world of the Engineers (other than just sexual innuendo).  In Promethus, part of the Juggernauts control system was a flute or recorder.

Thanks a lot for the resonses here.  I really like the soaring towers in some of the images.  It seems that they wanted to go for a low-tech, organic look with stone materials... perhaps hinting that there's another place that's the actual seat of their technology and power.

@BigDave: "Those two beings on the Doors look like FEMALE they also appear to have Long Hair"

I think that you nailed it.  I reminds me of these Giger paintings, with their respective "openings"... quite a good homage:

ALIEN1979Alien: Romulus 2 NewsAlien: Awakening - Ridley Scott confirms Engineers will return in Alien: Covenant sequel!

@k theory

Again, Prometheus wasn't hated because it did not have any Xenomorph but the storytelling and some characters were acting simply not convincing.

While David is so eager to learn more about the Engineers and the black goo, how come he did not check about the baby trilobite that shaw gave c section birth?

The captain suddenly knows all about lv223 being a military outpost for WMD instead of assuming it in this direction.

Milburn acts like a stupid moron and not like a biologist, fifield who is supposed to be a geologist and in charge to map the installation gets lost?

Then lots of deleted scenes which would have made the movie make more sense were not considered.

It was a movie that could have been great with some minor tweaks.

Alien Covenant however feels like a lackluster movie by Ridley. He ignores the center point of Prometheus, displays the Xenomorph rather like in Alien Resurrection than in Alien or Alien 3, and focuses way too much on David while we still dont understand why he wipes out the engineers without communicating with them at all.

The nostromo crew, colonial marines, the convicts and even the betty crew and auriga crew had more personality and characterization than quite every character in Alien Covenant.

I think maybe it could tie in.... as far as the Origins of the Parasitic Black Goo maybe...  i have concluded another origin of the Black Goo... but as far as the Sacrificial Goo who knows where they came from.

Here is a picture that depicts Azathoth and a Flute.

And below another surrounded by Trumpets, and so yes i can see where you try and make a connection and who knows, maybe RS will explore a more Primordial Being/Creature.

If Japan does well, and i think a greater % of Japanese will see the movie compared to the Chinese... but we need remember China has a larger population.

But indeed if Japan makes that kind of Money then the movie would break even i think.... i cant understand why Japan had to wait for September... the release Schedule is one of the things that Damaged this Franchise.

I think if the Movie came out in Europe and North America the Same weekend or a Week Apart with the Premier no longer than a week before USA release... Then other Markets had the movie up to a Month later i would think AC would had been past the $250M mark for certain by now maybe even pushing $300M

As for a sequel i think its on the Cards... but a lot could be changed due to reception of AC....

As far as RS goes, he has the ideas but he gets writers in to bring those to Life in a draft and also change some parts.. then RS and FOX will look what needs changing for a Shooting Script and then RS will then Put this to Screen.

He can often change things as he goes along when Shooting a Movie and so things get omitted or replaced compared to how the Final Drafts looked.  He is very Spontaneous and sometimes this can be good but sometimes bad.

Indeed Tiwaz that book maybe took some of the information and ideas RS had for how he would have done a Prequel.. many many years ago.

Regarding if this is Canon i think the Books can be but then can be taken from Canon too... but themes and ideas in the Books could be explored in future and so we cant rule out RS showing us the Derelict had more than ONE-CREW

RS comments about the Engineers coming back into it, does not mean the chances of this are Good, as opposed to it being ONE Human or Synthetic Pilot.

Reply
BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumThe Black Goo & Crowd Control?

Its a nice theory and who knows..

It depends on the idea of WHAT the Black Goo and its affects in relation to the Sacrificial Goo we are shown the Sacrificial Scene will ultimately lead to all/most life on a World Evolving from the result of this and so the effects eventually spread World Wide but this process would have taken Millions of years.

The comments by RS over the years regarding the Black Goo seems to indicate that a Large Cargo of them would wipe out a Planet.

Alien Covenant it appears to have wiped out all LIFE apart from the Plants and also had mutated/evolved some kind of Fungi/Mold to become the Spores.

But then how does David obtain any organisms for his experiments, so this is a Potential loose End where at first when the Trailers came out i wondered if the Cathedral was some kind of Noah's Ark and inside it is safe from the effects of Outside and it contained samples of Life Forms so they can repopulate after a Disaster...  At this time however i was wondering was the Disaster Scene a Ancient Events which it now is not..... and so its still open to debate as to how David got Specimens for his Tests as NOT-ALL-LIFE was killed off, but then it appears ALL-LIFE locally to the City has no Life, but does that mean the whole World does not?

"Do you think maybe the Engineers have some kind of planet-wide antidote to neutralize the pathogen?"

This is what i thought again after the Trailers, that maybe the Cathedral Dome Gold Device releases a Engineer Weapon that basically fries all Genetic Life and thus Halts the Infection of the Black Goo... which is why i wondered was the Cathedral some kind of Noah's Ark.

After seeing/hearing about the docking Juggernaught and Davids Bombardment i then wondered does the Scorpion-ship release some Engineer Weapon that prevents the spread of the Black Goo and this Weapon Release is what caused the Juggernaught to Crash.

But since the movie i have a explanation of the Black Goo being different due to it being kind of like a Nuclear Weapon where the Black Goo is like the Radioactive component and so has different effects depending on contact with the Radioactive component, well the Black Goo in this case and so the Weaponized/Activated Urns in a Bombardment has a Reaction that changes the Black Goo effects to mainly Kill off Genetic Material like how a Nuclear Weapons, Uranium/Plutonium is a Reactive Element that causes the wide spread Death/Explosion....

Compared to a different effect if you was to come into contact with the Elements inside before the Weapon is Primed and Activated.... so if you touched Uranium/Plutonium or Black Goo Canisters Contents...  compared to the effects when these Elements are activated in a explosive Bombardment.

LaszloPanaflexAlien: Romulus 2 NewsAlien: Awakening - Ridley Scott confirms Engineers will return in Alien: Covenant sequel!

Sounds similar to an idea that I posted on ScreenAnarchy 25 days ago...

"...I want to see something totally different. I would like to see the introduction of a master race of Engineers (or as Jon Spaiths called them, Grand Engineers). I want their planet to be a Giger-esque nightmare landscape (no more of these sweeping terrestrial vistas as seen in the last two films). I want to see David breed a pack of xenomorphs using the colonists in hypersleep aboard the Covenant, and take them to the Grand Engineers planet to show them that he too can create not only life...but the "perfect organism". Of course, he'll have an ulterior motive as well...

And to add more fuel to the fire, we have a heavily armed search party (a squadron of Collonial Marines who'll go on their first ever "bug hunt", perhaps?) that was dispatched to ascertain the fate of Peter Weyland and the crew of the Prometheus. They will end up on the Grand Engineers planet, and all hell will break loose.

In addition, I'd prefer them to reveal the Space Jockey as an actual alien creature...not a suit. Basically retcon the retcon.

This would be more of a sci-fi/action film that could appeal more to general audiences and fans alike. Probably the best route to go."

Am I the only one who truly enjoyed Covenant? It was an unconventional sequel to Prometheus but I felt it was natural, especially considering now that we are getting closer to the back door of Alien. I love the Alien movies and Prometheus, idk, I thought it was pretty cool. Covenant embodied everything about the franchise so I'm not getting the hate. The crews decisions aside (which I felt was real, these people may be scientists but they're fallible people, foolishly optimistic ones at that) and the weird Lope facehugger (which I think has to do with it being a prototype which still needs modifying) I thought it was a great film. Love the David storyline, best character in the franchise by far imo. I can't wait till the Blu-ray comes out to watch the commentary lol

Some interesting Designs here, some of those Designs have a Bio-Mechanical look to them, like the Juggernaught and Scorpion-naught ships Aesthetics... some of these buildings are covered also in like a Web-like Resin Substance.

Very interesting.

This for me is the MONEY-SHOT though.

Those two beings on the Doors look like FEMALE they also appear to have Long Hair

I have speculated for a long time about the importance of Females in the Franchise, i even made a Topic a number months after this theory started to really get my thinking.

The Cause for Sin

And recently i had brought up Females again on a number of Topics for how i interpreted the Engineers reasons for Creation etc.

Seems maybe with this Art-work that my Study of Clues and theory i have been drawn to is actually maybe pretty close ;)

That would be awesome. Keep going with the David and Engineer story, or give us a prequel that actually continues where Prometheus left off. The Prometheus fans are who they should have listened to.

And that would be John Logan, not Ridley. Ridley may help steer the ship, but he and Fox hire writers to actually write these stories.

And what if Ridley Scott will not take the fan reaction (engineer whiners) into account and just develop further the David story, how would you like that? Stop whining, this has done a lot of damage to the box office already And it is no better than the chinese censorship. This franchise has the most exigent critics all of a sudden, lot of fan art, fan script, everybody can do better than Ridley Scott. And Ridley Scott just left enough to be developed in the next movies, just have a little patience.

Definitely not "bad". Just not as good as it should have been because Ridley decided to change direction to appease the xeno whiners.

I don't like the Ridley who does this when criticized:

"…Because everyone said 'I missed the Alien'. I said, really? And I said, ookaaayy (rolling his eyes). So I came back on…So I thought we had better include it and try it out, so this (Covenant) is the trail run"..."I think you’re not sensible if you don’t actually take [the fans’ reaction] into account."

I liked the old Ridley who use to say things liked this when criticized:

"I don't make films for other people. I make films for me...So there's a great expression, 'f**k you very much'."

3 billion years might be out as well it would be hard to not change for that long.  Realistically a lot less i reckon. But i did here 150 million years mentioned by Ridley as to time inbetween the flat ufo type shipand the juggernaut which sounds off... hard to know like Dave says as well were they just adding DNA to other life or actually starting it. Planets are really not good even for an engineer before life takes hold...

Nathan AdlerAlien: Romulus 2 NewsAlien: Awakening - Ridley Scott confirms Engineers will return in Alien: Covenant sequel!

@BigDave: As for Synthetic Material needing to play a role, recall LV-223’s atmosphere was silicone.  If we are based off their DNA how was the Engineer able to walk from the crashed Juggernaut without a mask?  And is this why LV-223 was chosen as a 'laboratory', because they were using silicone to try and combine mech with bio?  Remember computers are run on silicon, and the synthetics are just highly advanced computers.  So might this provide some clues?
