While fans are waiting on official confirmation that Alien: Earth season 2 has been green-lit, showrunner Noah Hawley is already discussing where the next season will go if things progress. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he addresses his interest in exploring the corporate politics between Weyland-Yutani, Prodigy and the other monopolies which govern Earth in the fictional future. He also touches on where the show will likely expand – off Prodigy island of course, but not quite on such a global scale... yet anyway:

“The [Weyland-Yutani] ships are coming and all they have is problems. I’m interested in exploring the corporate politics of it,” he says. “As we’ve seen, there’s an irresistible gravitational pull toward monopoly that corporations and billionaires have. There’s a bit of Game Of Thrones to the corporate world that feels interesting to me.” Still, the core of Alien: Earth will be Wendy and friends – moving beyond the island they’ve been inhabiting. “I do think this story of these children’s autonomy continues to be the heart of the show, but Alien is always about levels of containment,” Hawley explains. “The island is a level of containment and what happens when you expand past that level? Ultimately, the show is called Alien: Earth. I know that, given the canon, I can’t blow up the Earth, but I do think that containment is going to be very hard to maintain.”
When Alien: Earth was first announced, FX Networks ordered 2 seasons off the starting line, but the studio has yet to make an official announcement that season 2 is on the way. While fan reception might have been mixed, critics gave the show a standing ovation, so it's very unlikely a second season won't be green-lit soon.
If Noah Hawley is going to be involved in Alien: Earth season 2, we should hear about it within the next couple months.
