Alien: Romulus has officially surpassed $280 million at the global box office and the film hasn't even released in Japan yet! Having managed to rack up over $283 million, the Fede Alvarez Alien sequel has nearly recuperated three times what the film cost to produce (a reported $80 million).
The success of Alien: Romulus is also taking the Alien film franchise close to the $2 billion global box office earnings mark - a huge milestone for such an iconic cult classic sci-fi film franchise.
However, while Romulus' performance is impressive, the film has yet to catch Ridley Scott's Alien prequel Prometheus, which secured $400 million at the global box office back in 2012. It is likely the film's debut in Japan will see it come close or surpass Prometheus, making Alien: Romulus the most profit film in the franchise.
