A very new, very brief Alien 5 interview with the cast and director of Chappie with SiriusXM Radio has hit the web! Both Neill Blomkamp and Sigourney Weaver touched on the upcoming Alien movie, which began production this week. While Blomkamp avoided disclosing too much about the film, as it's still very early on in development, Sigourney perked up with an exciting comment...
“Let’s just put it this way,” Weaver teased, “We’ve found the host and it’s been embedded…it’s gestated.”
Could there be more to this remark than we initially thought? As production continues to roll out on Alien 5 over the next year, expect a lot more teasing to go on - Sigourney loves teasing the fans.
During the interview, Weaver also makes a point of mentioning how glad she is that Blomkamp will be directing this new Alien film, adding that his sense of scale and realism is what will bring the Alien franchise back to life. Be sure to watch the entire bit, over on Entertainment Weekly!
Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 project was inevitably canceled following the merger between 20th Century Fox and Disney. Blomkamp had hoped to revive characters Hicks and Ripley for a new film, rewriting the Alien timeline, chalking up Alien 3 and Resurrection to mere bad dreams. Studio executives decided to can the project and instead took the franchise in a new direction, tapping Fede Alvarez to direct Alien: Romulus.
Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 is indefinitely shelved.
