Dallas has a VERY poor track record. Perhaps by placing a broken and expendable crew together, no one would miss them and would explain their missing because of their past problems...always have to a cover up story for why you family members disappeared.

Just love the depth and attention to detail this back ground stuff brings to the movie, most non fan's would use the old "SAD" word to sum this up, but I just love it. Wasn't this character info available on the DVD release?

I've stated this before... You can't send Brett or Parker...they are fixing the ship. Kane wanted to go and in my mind is actually expendable, just like Ripley. Ripley had to stay, being warrant officer, they usually do not leave the ship when they are out to sea (or space). So that leaves Lambert and Ash. Ash mans the science console, I would assume that is his standard position. I also would assume that if the trip to the derelict went well and they decided to make a second trip, that Ash would go. Lambert, the navigator, is just the odd person out, and it sucks to be her. Her expression of "wonderful" when Dallas orders her to go is priceless, and I would assume that it is actually part of her duties to go since she really didn't object.
