MemberOvomorph12/22/2011On other boards there has been a lot of talk about the guy without a helmet jumping off of a vehicle onto a helmeted crew member, and how he has a "mutated" face. I've been thinking: it may be possible that he is the crew member we see inside the suit whose face seems to be splashed with "acid"... from inside the suit somehow. That could account for his face being messed up. He may not be a mutant at all, as the other person in the suit could be wearing it to protect themselves from facehuggers or a virus or whatever.
I'd hate to go back to it, but that "leaked" plot that's been discredited spoke a great deal about mutations of the crew, and Noomi Rapace herself even states that Shaw "In the middle of the movie is a lot of things and she transformed into a warrior - another aspect of her springing to life.". This could be taken in a multitude of ways, and maybe I'm planting trees to say I've seen a forest, but genetics plays a great deal in the Alien universe. I've long thought that the alien gets it's final form from the DNA of the host it inhabits, but also believed that if the host could survive, it too would share the alien DNA (this is finally proven in Alien Resurrection where Ripley is cloned with the queen embrio from her own blood samples, meaning the alien does in fact change the DNA of the host). Having said that, it's possible that the "acid" in the trailer is genetic material and it affects this crew member as such. I take that plot synopsis with a grain of salt, so much of it is hardly Ridley Scott, but this wouldn't be the first time that information was leaked (even by the producers themselves) that include the plot elements, but enough bs to cloud and discredit it in whole. And let's not forget that Damon Lindelof did the script revisions, and he is a freakin mad man when it comes to bringing crazy ideas to life in a way which is almost poetic...

MemberOvomorph12/22/2011Any movie containing the all powerful Ellen Ripley is worth a look and mention.

MemberOvomorph12/22/2011lol i know, i know. It should have been Alien: Damnation. That's what you get when you hand a franchise over to a french surrealist hahaha

MemberOvomorph12/22/2011One good theory there Trom to do with Alien Resurrection. If we go with a pregnancy theory - read the other treads - and lets say it's Shaw and she survives it. How will it affect her. Maybe it would enhance her genetically and turn her into a mighty beast. There are certainly shots of her under going some form of change/pain or something horrendous.

MemberOvomorph12/22/2011and again "Resurrection" was a whopping success at the box office as well. Despite what people will say, and they can say anything they want, My belief is 2 fold on that subject. 1- Have you made anything better yourself? and 2 - Did it turn a profit and was it as original as all 4 of the films in the quadrilogy all are?

MemberOvomorph12/22/2011I'm not hating on Resurrection, but as an Alien movie, it just didn't seem to fit the mold. I enjoyed it as if it were a comic book film because the focus was more on the characters and quips than the actual aliens themselves. Joss Wedon is an amazing writer, but I prefer to keep my Alien films rooted in horror. But each film had it's own focus. The first was like Jaws in space, the second was more about a reactionary response via the military, the third introduced the concept of tangible humans (as opposed to a disembodied company) being just as monstrous, and the forth, well, like I said... it felt more like a comic book film. You could take all of those characters and story details (sans Ripley), put any type of creature in the place of the aliens and i'd do just as well at the box office.

MemberOvomorph12/22/2011Sure thing, Miser. If people like Resurection then good for them. Personally I thought it was bloody awful! Whent to see it with my then girlfriend and walked out just before the end when the human/alien hybrid made an appearance. I already had quite enough long before that. It looks fantastic. No doubt about that. But I didn't like the ideas in it and the plot line was pants. Posieden Adventure on a space ship with Xenomorphs instead of Telly Savalas. Not the most imaginative plot line. I always liked the story in the Dark Horse comics that followed on from the Aliens film. Some great ideas in that. I also thought Alien 3 was absolutely superb, although maybe not the best continuation of the franchise. A great film in its own right. Ressurection though? Like the new Star Wars trilogy I prefer to pretend it never actually happened ;-)

MemberOvomorph12/22/2011I understand WHY people did not like it, but for me, It does not bother me in the least, my expectations for films are most often wrong, it is the artists vision and not my own no matter how hard my ego and subconscious mind attempt to make it so.

Agent Mothman
MemberOvomorph12/22/2011I agree with Sparticus. I for one liked Resurrection, and while it may not be as good as the legendary Alien, it is still worthy to be apart of the great saga that is Alien.

Not_my_intention
MemberOvomorph12/22/2011i have no comment on the Resurrection thing, i would like to but i do not want to get in a fight with anybody. i heard people talking about another expedition before the Prometheus crew? well what if this guy is one of that crew who went crazy? starts killing them. kind of like sunshine but less religion involved.

MemberOvomorph12/22/2011to support your theory there is the long beard of the mutant guy ...also the "soon to be " spacejockey can be a member of the other crew too

The High Priest
MemberOvomorph12/23/2011I watched Resurrection last week, to revisit it, to get in the mood for Prometheus. I agree with the person who said never mention that film on this site. It is BAD, real BAD, the cinematography is appaling, the script infantile, the characters? who cares!!! No character development or arc whatsoever. It is not worthy of the franchise at all. Like Scott mentioned, its films such as this which have brought the franchise way down. Alien is a masterpiece, Aliens is an awesome action packed rollercoaster sequel. After that it all goes way down hill. Alien 3 - The story is terrible, I mean come on they started filming and didn't even have a script and boy does it show. Fincher has washed his hands of his involvment with this debacle also. the fall from grace begins with Alien 3. Hopefully Prometheus will get the franchise back on track.

MemberOvomorph12/23/2011the problem with these theories is they disregard facts from alien. think of it from scott's point of view. would he retcon his own work? i dare say he's one of the more intelligent directors and would have the ability and integrity to stay consistent.
for example, if the alien acid contained genetic material, wouldn't they have sampled it, diluted it and discovered it? furthermore, can genetic material even survive in acid that burns through several stories of metal architecture? thirdly, how good can an acid of such concentration be useful as a gene delivery system? these are all things from the first alien film.

Tromatizer
MemberOvomorph12/23/2011I don't think the alien acid (its blood) is the same as the "acid" in the trailer. In the trailer, that substance behaves as an acid, but im thinking it's more along the lines of a genetic material, where it doesn't eat through you (well, maybe a little lol) but its more like a delivery method of dna or information. I think the dna "acid" is what's in the urns.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorph12/23/2011Just FYI Tromatizer,
You mention the Acid for blood...
I was partying hard last night with a buddy and a PS3 and we were playing Aliens VS Predators and we get to near the end of the Marine campaign and the He wants to try it so he takes the controller and for 50 attempts he can't get himself out of the way of the Queen who is running away from him, turning around and then launching her green acid spit at him from like 25 yards away...my belly is still hurting from laughing so hard, he is a "Call of Duty" guy and wanted a tougher challenge and now I got him hooked on killing Xenomorphs instead of people.
But that Acid she spits.....eeeeeeeessssshhhhhh !!!!

MemberOvomorph12/23/2011hahaha yeah, that game is pretty crazy. I'm pretty pumped for the new one that's supposed to drop in 2012. A word to any gamer, however: Do NOT under any circumstances, purchase Aliens: Infestation for the DS. You'll be told that it plays like Super Metroid, and I suppose the level design makes that true, but it is linear, half of it makes no sense, and there is literally, no ending. You beat the last alien and your commander gets on the horn, says "You better get out before that place blows", and you start to run away, the screen goes white and the credits roll. Worst game I have ever played. It's horrible that the Alien name has been attached to it.
