Ok. Here we go. I assume (and hope) there's a lot more than meets the eye. It's like a game off connect the dots... In ALIEN we have eggs, in PROMETHUS ampules... whats the connection? (remember Kane saw thousands of eggs). Again to my eye there must be some mutation (strong possible candidate of an overall theme) turning ampules to eggs, but how could this be done. Maybe through quantum entanglement? What happens to one happens to all? Whatever the case may be, there should be substance from which our minds may feast. Remember, according to Scott it's, "About everything." And lest we forget, "There is an explanation for this, you know. "

Then what happens to all the ampules, assuming the crashed alien ship is the same as the derelict of ALIEN?

Stolen and burned up in the Prometheus when it crashes.

Sorry was just pulling stuff off the top of my head but thinking about it the room with all the eggs in Alien looks very different from the room with the ampules. I can't say but it seems to me their are a lot less ampules. However you may be right none the less of course none of us can know. No, no, no... you're right there... Think of the symmetry of the thing... What are the first spoken lines of the trailer...? Now contrast those with the famous lines of John Hurt... Clue..."we've come this far..." think like a screen writer... Look at the possibilities... The beauty of self similarity....

I kind of think the ampules are the engineers way of storing either their young or perhaps different species in different ampules. I think we will see the eggs, but we won't see any of the eggs or the xeno(ish) creature until the film premiers......... I would have also thought that the ampules stay safely on the planetoid in a big underground cave and the ship which has been quoted as being a 'carrier of weapons' takes the bilogical weapon of the xenomorth........

They may be related because they were designed by the same engineer but have very different functions. I think the ampules are seeds for planting new life. The ship has lots of different functions and rooms I think. In one shot Shaw gets sucked out of screen and into a void. What would cause this? I was thinking maybe the derelict can breath because it is some kind biomechanical atmospheric processor also.

Yeah I agree the underground cave may be a possibility and it just was never discovered in Alien.

I was thinking the same thing. They may have tons of different life forms stored in different rooms. Also this may be a completely different ship. Maybe each ampule contents gets mixed somehow and it creates the xeno eggs. The shot of David taking the ampule contents out seems to have four compartments. Maybe those four combine to make the xeno eggs. Maybe...hmmm.

Frantz...I was thinking the same about the red lasers. Different rooms...different ships??? Interesting.

How far back is the movie in accordance with the Alien story timeline?

Everything I've read says 30 to 100 years before the original Alien.

The lasers are most likely 3d imagining/mapping tools utilized by the exposition to map the interior of the vessel they are investigating. As for the egg chamber from Alien, I seem to remember Kane discovering entrance through a hole burned into the floor of the SJ navigation room, just adjacent to the fossilized SJ. There are so many ways this can go. Ridley's imagination will not be limited by technology, $, nor the studio. We are in for a treat.

I read somewhere that Ridley said it takes place 30 years before Ripley was born. So if Ripley was around 30 that would be 60 or so but he said that in a very early interview.

I think what it is, is the same thing, that the MUD on Theron's back is part of. When I looked at the trailer in slo mo, particularly THAT scene where something hit's a female crew members space helmet AND she gets sucked off screen stage right...what I saw when I slowed it down was there was No Bigger Object hitting her helmet, but rather thousands of these little muddy dark particles that seem alive in and of themselves. I believe There's more going on there than any of us know yet.

Are you trying to figure out how many years exactly before the events of the Nostromo occur, that all this happens?

ooohhh...right minimum 60 yrs that we know of as you said but it is probabaly a bit longer Also, From the scene in the imaginary laser created garden with Burke on the extended version of "Aliens" and from their conversation about her daughter we can calculate exactly how old Ripley is...during those events So it's clear that when these events of the Prometheus are occurring, Ripley has not been born yet!

How far back does Prometheus go? It is in all likely hood set around 2072, before Weyland Yutani came into existence.

Ok, I am so f'ing mad at the editor here and the fact that half the time when you correct a post it erases it instead that I NOT RETYPING EVERYTHING I JUST FINISHED WRITING AND COULDN'T IF I TRIED BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THE AMPULES WERE DESTROYED IN THE CRASH BUT THEIR PRE-PROGRAMMED XENOMORPHS AND AT LEAST 1 QUEEN SURVIVED.
