MemberOvomorph12/30/2011Ok, it all started with wondering about that moment in the trailer where Shaw gets taken away by a sandstorm. Putting myself on the shoes of the writers of the script, I asked myself… why a sandstorm? why only Shaw? why carrying a bag? how does this fit with all the comments that we heard about Shaw’s character? It all seemed so pointless and random.
But then it struck me: we know that the race that runs that planet can terraform!!
That means they can control the weather, which means they can create a sandstorm. That sandstorm is then created on purpose in order to isolate Shaw. This race abducts her!
And why would they do that? Well, there could be many reasons: if some godly race did genetically create the Humans, wouldn’t they be keen on running some research on one of them? And Shaw is carrying a bag, which might well be some of that race’s technology (just taken from the urns?) that they don’t want stolen, therefore this might be an efficient way to get it back.
If this is correct, the “pleeease!” scene could actually be about that race running research on Shaw (doesn’t the set up of this scene seem very non-human to you? couldn’t the fact that the shot is a close-up be an indication that RS doesn’t want to show much of the race who is analyzing Shaw?). Afterwards, she would be somehow returned to the crew and would come around all bruised and stumbling, as shown in the trailer. She would then be scanned by their own crew... – ok, a bit more far-fetched: the focus of the scanning on her belly and the scene in bed (still bruised) with Logan hinting at frustration… could that be an indication that they messed up with her belly somehow?
What do you think? - How about that for what Rapace defined as Shaw’s crucial moment mid-way through the movie that has major impact on the character’s subsequent actions and behavior?

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011my idea is that something very important is going to happen because the sand storm is not "natural" and i think the scene is connected to JAnek face of horrified surprise ... the fact of shaw's fly is a side effect ...i dont think they will place even an alien abduction because they will place another cliche in the movie and there is really no hint about that .
So to me the point is ...what cause the sandstorm ? ...a ship landing ? something getting out of the ground ??

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011I love what you just wrote their Frantz, really I do. At first I just dismissed that all as a storm or wind but after sifting through all the images of it and reading the varied descriptions of it since the trailers hit and now I think you are right and there is a HECK OF A LOT MORE going on their.

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011Yes, I too feel there's more going on with what looks like a sand storm, or a shock wave from a huge explosion And that idea of something large coming out of the ground is intriguing. AND, I can see all those things blowing against Shaw, but she is sucked INTO it which seems very different!

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011Oh you are definitely correct with that possibility. In the Prometheus OFFICIAL Trailer Spot #1 she is going through the same thing(making a painful face).. but you see everything around her. But the 2 scenes do not seem to be connected.

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011ok ...ive just a flash ...
The sand storm is the "temple" destroyed ...someonehave triggered something ... or they werent supposed to enter ... ..all that debris arrives exactly from the direction of the temple .. ( ship door was in the direction of it )

Spartacus
MemberOvomorph12/30/2011wow, there may be creatures running around with duel sets of jaw bones, quick Frantz, jump in this sand hole over here.

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011Yes, I agree that this abduction theory is highly speculative and cannot be confirmed by hard data. Nevertheless I believe it cannot be dismissed simply for being a cliché - is there anything more of a sci-fi cliché than characters being scanned and lying in pain on medical care stretches? Still, we seem to get a lot of that on this trailer.
What we do know from Rapace is that some critical event will happen to Shaw midway through the movie - well, the trailer seems to point out that important things happen to her which are related with medical inspection stuff (also in trailer #1, thx danrald).
And I still find very revealing that she seems to be the only one captured by the sandstorm. Why does this happen to the story's main character? All of you seem to agree with me that this sandstorm looks artificial (well, Spartacus apparently agrees via Frantz eheh). I can certainly buy some of the alternatives provided (explosion, etc) but IMO it would be a more appealing alternative to connect it with the weather-control abilities of the race that runs the planet and as a way for them to get to Shaw for some reason.

MemberOvomorph12/30/2011I like this idea much better than my worry of the alien race being conceived by Shaw and Holloway. In fact I don't want them to have sex in the film.
However, this doesn't explain how Holloway got infected, as shown in his screaming in the helmet?
The Holloway factor is too big to ignore in this film, imo. And I don't much like him either, given his significance.
