The transmission at start of trailer is eerie

It reminds me of some of these 'numbers stations' broadcasting on short-wave radio I've only just been hearing about recently. The little, broken-up voice in the background behind the message is chilling and the 'scare' factor SRS promised us may lie in subtle stuff like this as well as full-on alien creepiness. The thought that this may be transmitting across thousands if not millions of light years through space from the past or future is seriously f**d up and is very eerie. That's just an inspired speculation from me based on the time dilation ideas that Scott also touched upon back in the early stages of this film. I hope he carries these themes across to Prometheus, because I find THAT sort of thing scary and haunting in a very insidious way. Sounds like the voice is saying 'it's coming' or something and I'm sure it's the Shaw and Vickers characters in distress or warning people away. Any thoughts on this?

This ties in nicely with something that has already happened. At the end of Alien 3, the escape pod picks up Ripleys transmission from the end of Alien. And what of the warning signal picked up by the Nostromo? Could it have been sent by a survivor of The Prometheus?

Yes, the notion of Ripley's transmission going on for all eternity is chilling. Partly because this sort of thing is happening right now in space - radio and TV broadcasts from long dead (and living) personalities are drifting out there in the cosmos. I've recently read somewhere someone speculating that the SJ warning signal is either Elizabeth Shaw's or Vickers' voice scrambled and that one of them becomes the SJ we see in the first Alien. This together with rumours of the time-travel aspect and the crew being stranded 'on a planet millions of years ago' when they leave for that planet 70+ years in our future. This really screws with my head big time and is truly nightmarish if this is even remotely possible within the laws of space-time and nature.

Prior to popular belief radio transmissions dont go on forever, they start to stretch and eventually fade away.

One of the very first things to hit me when the trailer was leaked was this despairing transmission. "It looks like a warning".

Hmmm..."sounds like a warning", perhaps the very same one Nostromo picks up?! Could it be Shaw's message at the beginning of the trailer is to earth, saying, "He is coming, we were so wrong, I'm sorry' ?!
