@ Spartacus - I kept getting 'logged out' every time I tried to answer you in Snorkelbottom's 'My Alien 5' topic recently, so I've had to start this seperate one so that I can respond in full to you about this...
Anyway, if you happen to be a technically adept 'fan-editor' Spartacus, then I'd certainly be willing to consider your offer of help with this project.
However, there's a few certain things I require when it comes to undertaking this with any potential collaborator -
1. Ideally, I'd hoped for someone who was capable of cutting the BLU-RAY versions of this...but I'd certainly be okay with just cutting the DVD versions of this, if need be. But either way, I need someone who can cut it using the 'PAL' region versions, as my exact descriptions and 'timings' would be taken from the 'PAL' releases. I also need someone who's capable of cutting this together using either 3 different BLU-RAY sources or alternatively, from 3 DVD sources. That's right, 3 different 'PAL' sources are needed for the footage this project requires.
2. Although I'm not expecting any fancy 'menus' or 'extras' added to this edit, I do need someone who's able to do clean cuts, and who's also able to retain the 5.1 surround sound too.
3. I'm also looking to find someone who's patient and willing to cut to my specific, exact 'cut-list' throughout, without changing anything. I've not come across a version of ALIEN 3 that ever satisfied me, whether 'official' or 'fan-edited', so I've spent a lot of time working out this particular 'combination' of the 2 'official' versions which I'd be very keen to see eventually.
To do this would entail me sending my exact descriptions and timings over a series of E-mails to any collaborator, but I'm not expecting this to be done quickly by anyone, as I'd rather they tried to cut it together with care instead, no matter how long it takes.
So if you fit these criteria Spartacus, then I'd certainly be interested in your help with this. But if not, no worries, as there's certain others I hope to contact eventually that may agree to take this on instead. Let me know either way. Thanks.

Here's a Fabulous One man

GavinJanuary 23, 2012
Okay sparks I have added the ultimate edition to my wish list, but to be honest its only a little bit better that movie maker

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
OK here is what I have been doing
I just downloaded and installed the editor I gave you in the 2nd link
It is Unbelievable and FREE
It is ULEADS video studio editor 10 PLUS
IMO the single best editor out there!
It has EVERYTHING
which one did you install?
P.S. it prompts the user at the install to tell it what country you are from which means which version you want to use and then PAL or NTSC do NOT miss this you have to select PAL for what you are doing
I however am using NTSC
I could select PAL and do this project as was requested of me first, BUT I want YOU to do it !!!
And I want you to use THIS editor
so please tell me you downloaded and installed from the 2nd link not the 1st, right?

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
sadly the 2nd one I just discovered is just a 30 day trial but thats all you need is 30 days to do this project.

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
OMG I am using it now and it is AWESOME, it is just like the one I got with my Cap card and it has Everything Snorky, ask me questions if you need any help but WOW you can do everything you would want with it and it is a piece of cake to use once you now how.

GavinJanuary 23, 2012
What I need is a video editor with multiple sound channels, effects channels, at least 1 preferable two video channels, plenty of transition effects, the ability to import and export in many many formats, to change the resolution and possible the frame rate used etc.

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
dude
The ONLY editor out there that has more than that 2nd one is Adobe's
and it is so big it takes about 1 hour + to install let alone figure out..I use that for some stuff and this for 90% of my projects....and I'll help you if you need any but it sounds like you already know what you wanna do so that's awesome...
I cannot believe you do not already know about the timeline on this thing.

GavinJanuary 23, 2012
WOAH...
Hold on a minute cervantes, you want an edit where Hicks and Newt survive...
It could be done but they would be left and the sulaco - you would need to delete all scenes referencing them...
1. Intro would be much shorter
2. Andrews log
3. Newts autopsy
4. The cremation
5. Clemens reference to the acid burn on the pod
...and probably others I can't think of right now.

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
I make Titles and credits in other programs now and then import them into this thing as video clips. You should see what I can do with titles now, I am the KING. LOL.

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
check out the opening titles on this one and the ending too I think the credits will blow you away what I did that is... turn up your surround the song is awesome

GavinJanuary 23, 2012
Honestly Sparks, don't wanna hurt your feelings and all...
but that's entry level stuff, the sound was good, hearing the game and the music, but the opening credits and the effects, not so good. Sorry :(

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
That's OK My feeling's aren't hurt it's a socom video and was made that way...
I am not sure you understand what I am talking about or that you understand timelines and how they work. If that footage was of Alien 3 you would understand what I mean, I will show you something else yet again...gimme a minute

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
BetterTitles
Snorky I am trying to show you how easy it is to transition clips together and make fantastic titles
The stuff that goes by real quick here at the beggining of this one is way way more polished...and I have several that are way way more polished than this but am trying to find them for you.
The whole point is regardless of the quality you want you can do professional style titles.
In your case All of the footage will come from Alien 3 itself so there will be No Quality control issues, the credits will match the ones in the film.
If you wish to make your own as I said you will have to use a third party graphical program to do that such as Adobe if you want professional looking ones...
but you'll see a big jump here in the quality and I have several others like I said that a far far better than this.
but because you will be using ONLY footage form the film itself you don't need to create your own...your finished product is going to look automatically polished professionally, it's just footage from the film itself.

GavinJanuary 23, 2012
Oh the cuts were fine, just that if i'm gonna fork out £40 I wanna get value for my money

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
you can do it all with copy of the film, and that software right there chief. No kidding you.
I get what you are concerned about it's just knowing how to use the program, the BEST one out there is Made by Adobe, it's HUDGE, I forget the exact name and ha s much more professional interface like an actual mixing board style if that's what you desire.
However, the trade off is it is way way harder to manipulate clips with it and all you need to be able to do is CUTS for this project to work as he wants.

SpartacusJanuary 23, 2012
Very Last Thing Snorky...I Just Made This With That For You !!! Ya See !!!
Took Me 3 Minutes !!!
SnorkAlienCut
Edit: You also do NOT need to BUY anything bro, do NOT buy anything!
Use the editor I told you about and when you get into the main screen click on the tiny icons for the bottom part until you see the one that shows you the tracks!!!
Believe Me It's Professional.
and drag and drop.
I can teach you real quickly how to use it.
Also when you are rendering use the last link under the share tab "create Video" and select "Custom" off the menu...and you can encode it in the format and size you wish.

@ Snorkelbottom - Although it might be possible to imply that it was *only* Ripley that was jettisoned in the 'EEV unit' by removing shots such as you've mentioned above, this would throw up it's own set of problems.
For instance, it would mean that the great intro. would need to be chopped up quite a fair bit to suggest this, but I'm not sure that would satisfactorily explain why the other 'pods' weren't transferred to the 'EEV unit' too, considering the fire broke out in the vicinity of ALL of them...
...and without going out into all the exact descriptions, it would also entail removing a heck of a lot of neat footage, dialogue, and music to accomodate the scenario that Newt, Hicks, and Bishop were still aboard the 'Sulaco', and none-the-wiser...but would make for a very choppy version of the movie I reckon.
I've been told that there's been several previous 'fan-edits' that were going to attempt to imply that Newt, Hicks, and Bishop may have survived, but they didn't come to fruition unfortunately. And seemingly there was also one involving a small group of editors that was going to show *two* 'EEV units' being jettisoned in the first place - one with Ripley in it which crash landed on Fury 161, and one with the rest of the 'pods' in it, which would have drifted safely away... That sounds like it would have needed a touch of effects changes, but it wouldn't have satisfied me anyway, as it still wouldn't have saved Ripley herself!
What I'm intending is a solution that makes it possible to watch the existing storylines of the ALIEN 3 and ALIEN RESURRECTION movies in their full complete glory (albeit re-cut to include a combination of what I think is the best footage from each version)...but yet allow for a 'total disregard' for them at the same time, in a way that actually shows onscreen how Ripley, Newt, Hicks, and the Bishop have survived their horrors!
Luckily for me, there *is* a way to do that, and there's just enough footage and dialogue available to do it in a way that would definately satisfy me. This way, I would still be able to view these movies as they were intended, but end up with a very different outcome at the end of each of them, thus nullifying the direction they took. Hopefully it might satisfy others too who happen to hold the same love/hate regard for these last two sequels as I have.
Hope that clarifys things a little.

GavinJanuary 24, 2012
I get the direction you wanna take Cerv, and I have no problem attempting to pull it off.
BTW I think that all the bishop footage should be left in, the scenes where she grabs him and later on talks to him set up events later on.
The problem is, just from a creative point of view, I don't really see the point, because Hicks and Newt surviving is pointless, we never see their story concluded and they would be dead by Alien Rez, creatively its a unexplored and unnecessary loose end.
GuestJanuary 24, 2012
Ha ha, maybe I was too cryptic in my previous post on page 4 Snorkelbottom, as I'm not sure you've got the direction I want to take, after all.
A couple of things I think I should clarify a bit more -
1. ALL of Bishop's scenes would *definately* be left in...as it won't affect the intended outcome whatsoever.
2. As far as you not seeing the point from a creative point of view, because of the points you mentioned about Newt and Hicks -
MORE TO COME, PLEASE WAIT TILL I'VE FINISHED THIS POST.
CervantesJanuary 24, 2012
Heh, perhaps I was too cryptic in my previous post on page 4 Snorkelbottom, but I'm not sure you get the direction I want to take, at all.
So I'll clarify a few more things at this point -
1. ALL of Bishop's scenes would *definately* be included...as they won't affect the outcome I've got in mind, whatsoever.
2. As far as you not seeing the point of saving Newt and Hicks in ALIEN 3 from a creative point of view, since they would be dead by ALIEN REZ anyway, thus leaving an unexplored and unnecessary loose end - Well, thing is, they actually would be shown to survive BEYOND the events of ALIEN REZ in my versions too! The whole point of what I've got in mind is to portray these characters as being ALIVE and UNAFFECTED by the events of the last 2 sequels...while at the same time negating the more dubious aspects of these movies for me.
3. Finally, I'm looking for someone who'll be willing and able to do everything I've asked for in my initial post about all this, without trying to change ANYTHING I've got in mind for this. No-one has done what I have in mind yet, and even if they came up with a similar kind of solution, it's highly unlikely that they would end up using the exact same combination of footage and dialogue that I'd prefer to see.
I reckon there's a good chance of me eventually finding someone who's willing to do all of this exactly the way I want it from the pool of guys I originally had in mind...but if you're actually offering to have a crack at this yourself at some point Snorkelbottom, then I'm willing to take it further with you sometime.
What I *can* promise is that the person that does this will be the first to get a chance to evaluate how this will play. And hopefully, they will get as much satisfaction as I will of making this available to others who'd like to see this too, eventually.

GavinJanuary 24, 2012
Making it is no prob whatsoever Cerv I am just voicing what others will voice when it is finished, also I can do the cuts as per you instructions no prob, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will be good/bad cuts, it all depends upon your experience in the fields of narrative and editing, which I don't know whether you do or not?
CervantesJanuary 24, 2012
Sure Snorkelbottom, some that may eventually see these versions might indeed voice certain critisisms, and that's fine. But whether the versions I have in mind are deemed good or bad by others is irrelevent to me...as either way, this may end up being the ONLY way that any of us will actually be able to watch a version where Ripley, Newt, and Hicks AREN'T killed off...
But as I'm a hell of a nit-picker myself, I had to ask myself if what I came up with would work in a satisfying enough way for me, personally. I'm happy to say it will, and I can give an explanation for every single alteration/addition I've chosen, to whoever ends up doing this, along the way.

GavinJanuary 24, 2012
There would be no need for explanations along the way, just what cuts, swaps, removals, inserts... when and where. I'd do your version as you wanted it to the millisecond. Then if I disagreed I would do another cut, my cut to highlight the differences.
Just take into account that a film, just like a game, a level, a book, a comic, even a building, in fact anything with a structure (Narrative or otherwise) needs...
- Flow (hard to explain easy to show)
- Balance
- Logic
- Association
- Pace (yes buildings have pace)
GuestJanuary 25, 2012
Ha ha, I see you're already contemplating 're-cuts' of my 're-cuts' perhaps!
Well, as it seems that you're actually now offering to undertake these 2 edits for me sometime Snorkelbottom, I'm certainly willing to give it a go, if you are. :)
As long as I can end up getting my exact, specific version of the solution I've come up with, I'd certainly have no problem with you doing an altered version of your own eventually, if you wish!
And as far as your other points, there's only so much that can be done with the existing footage, but let's just see how things turn out...
So just a last couple of things for now -
Have you ever actually 'fan-edited' a movie BLU-RAY or DVD before?
Can you confirm that you definately want to proceed with all this, or not? (We can work out the details of when and how, at another time, if you do)
And if you do, can you confirm if it's possible to REVERSE a single shot if need be? - The soundtrack would be kept as it is, but the footage would be reversed for this shot, ideally. It can still work okay, if not.
Thanks for your continued interest.
GuestJanuary 25, 2012
Ha ha, I like how you're already contemplating doing 're-cuts' of my proposed 're-cuts'! That's the spirit.
Well, as it seems that you're offering to undertake this on my behalf Snorks, then I'm certainly willing to give it a go, if you are. :)
As long as I can get my own *exact* cut done of the proposed solution I've got in mind, then I certainly won't mind in any way if you feel the urge to attempt a 'different take' of it eventually, nor will I be offended in any way, lol.
LOT MORE TO COME. (BUT MY FIRST ATTEMPT DIDN'T GO THROUGH YET AGAIN, SO HAVING TO RE-TYPE THIS DAMN THING ALL OVER AGAIN! JUST DOING IT MY TRIED AND TESTED 'BIT AT A TIME' WAY NOW, SO BEAR WITH ME UNTIL IT'S DONE, THANKS)
CervantesJanuary 25, 2012
Ha Ha, I like how you're already contemplating having to do a 'recut' of my proposed 'recuts'!
Well, since it seems as if you're offering to undertake these 2 edits on my behalf now Snorks, then I'm certainly willing to give it a go with you, if you are. :)
As long as I can end up getting my own *exact* versions cut of my proposed solution, then I certainly won't be offended in any way if you feel the urge to attempt a 'different take' of them afterwards, lol.
And as far as the other points in your last post are concerned, well there's only so much I can do to achieve the new outcome with the footage available, but let's see how things turn out...
My solution is simple at the end of the day, and doesn't involve any radical chopping up of the footage of these 2 sequels whatsoever, but will definately give the right impression I'd like to see. It won't be to everyone's taste, but then no-one needs to bother with it if that's the case, as they'll still have the 'official' versions.
So if I can ask you a couple of things at this point -
Have you ever actually cut a 'fan-edit' of an existing BLU-RAY or DVD movie before?
Are you definately wanting to go ahead with this with me sometime when it's convenient? (the ins-and-outs and how-and-when can be sorted out through PM's in future, if so)
If you are, can you let me know if you're able to REVERSE a single shot so that it goes backwards? - The soundtrack would remain the same, but ideally the shot would move in reverse. It can still work fine if not, however. Just curious.
Thanks for your continued interest.
