MemberOvomorph02/8/2012Hello everyone,
just thought about the Prometheus from the Greek mythology, that analogy that is important for Ridley.
Prometheus story ends in being punished by the gods: They chained him to a rock, where his liver is eaten daily by an eagle, only to be regenerated by night, which, by legend, is due to his immortality.
So I question if in the movie someone is left somewhere, alive, suffering from the Engineers/Gods punishment (what ever gruesome idea this may be?), and is this someone sending the warning message out? And could this be David, since he is the only theroretically immortal crew member?
Also in mythology, years later, the Greek hero Heracles slays the eagle and frees Prometheus from his chains - could be Prometheus Part 2.
Just thinking. 121 days left. Sigh.

MemberOvomorph02/8/2012Hmmm, could be, but I doubt the story will follow the legend so matter of fact.
I'd imagine the punishment would be the immortalisation through tranformation into the xenomorth or to Engineer. I get the impression that both races are biologically linked and are quite evil, bitter, twisted......... unpleasant lol

MemberOvomorph02/8/2012Yeah I think the two species are definitly linked in some way, going by the Xeno's biomechanical appearence being SO similar to the SJ technology we've seen on the trailer and pics. I'm throwing a guess out there here, that the SJ somehow de-evolve of sorts into the Xenomorphs because of the Prometheus' crew intervention. . .

MemberOvomorph02/8/2012I like the idea that a xeno could become an Engineer, a post started today suggests that we have only seen xeno's a few months of age; and what happens after that?? They clear up the planet and then evolve into higher beings - 'Engineers'.........

MemberOvomorph02/8/2012Honestly the plot that would make the most sense (from a mythological standpoint) is that Vickers IS Prometheus... Her punishment for stealing for the company? Maybe she is left on the planet laying eggs the rest of her life. I doubt, it but it is the straight to the point mythological answer.

MemberOvomorph02/8/2012I think the Space Jockey alludes to Prometheus who created man and later crashes down onto LV 426. The xenomorph is the eagle. I'm curious to know whether the film explores man's creation of AI/Androids and expands upon the greek myth in some way.
We'll see...
My money is that the plot illuminates something monstrous out of creating life as well as the horrific realization that man's creator was an evil god/alien-scientist.

MemberOvomorph02/9/2012There's so many theories floating around out there it could be anything at this point.

MemberOvomorph02/12/2012Well, the engineer found by the Nostromo crew in ALIEN had a hole blown out of his rib cage... I'm trying to recall where the liver is located... :)
