MemberOvomorph02/12/2012When you first watch 'Alien', you see the crew enter the derelict and begin to explore this fascinating world of which they barely scratch the surface when Kane gets himself tagged by that facehugger......don't get me wrong, I love the rest of the movie, but when you see them bring Kane back to the Nostromo, there's always this little part of me that's screaming, "GO BACK......GO BACK, GO BACK........I want to see more of that thing......that ship's so massive and you showed me so little.......GO BACK...PLEASE....GO BACK.".........
....but now......we do get to go back, and as far as we can tell, most of 'Prometheus' takes place in alien settings rather than human settings....if true, I think I'll be like a kid in a candy store......my imagination can barely cope with this anticipation............how about you guys?

MemberOvomorph02/12/2012"Prometheus" is my most highly anticipated movie in a very long time, because I think Scott still has the dark, sci-fi chops he brought to the original "Alien" and "Bladerunner." I'm expecting an inky black yang bookend for Kubrick's much lighter"2001" -God was an alien- yin.

MemberOvomorph02/12/2012I have to say this, then i'm off to bed... Alien was, and still is, the scariest movie ever made. I'm 46 and still scared of the dark thanks to Alien! I only hope that Prometheus will add to my paranoia and give me somethg else to fear when I turn out the lights at night.... good-night, y'all!

Co-AdminMemberOvomorph02/12/2012Got to agree with you craigamore, I really really really want to see some of the creatures that will feature in this, and I'm not talking about the blue guy in the trailer. I really think there will be a few different types of creature in this. I have a feeling that the "white worm" we've all seen is actually a tentacle on something HUGE.
For 6 months before Cloverfield came out I was SCOURING the net looking for a picture of it's creature. And ended up disappointed by what I saw. It's all about the creatures for me to be honest, I hope they are truly alien-esque. Something that will actually scare me. I don't get frightened easily at all. Like, something we would not ever want to meet in a dark alley. Without a flamethrower, that is. If this movie makes me jump, I'll be happy, and it'll be a very rare thing.
I was 6 when I saw Bishop get dismembered by the Queen. I'd walked into the loungeroom for some reason and that was where the movie was up to (it had just been released on VHS) I turned around and said to my mum, "Is that supposed to be scary?" She was stunned. After she got over being scared herself that is :-P

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

MemberOvomorph02/13/2012I hope these proto-Xenomorphs we'll apparently see, look even scarier then the original ones! I'd have thought they have to be, for this movie to be truely scary. . .

MemberOvomorph02/13/2012So many movies just don't live up to the hype. I hear about an intriguing premise, and my thought process often goes, "What? No. Crazy idea. You can't." And then I see the film, and it's sub-par, and I think, "You didn't."
But it's a rare film where I think, "What? No. Crazy idea. You can't. You...did!"
I believe Prometheus will pass this litmus test. I'm ready for one hell of an unsettling experience.
Fall down seven times, get up eight.

I think the real horror of the xenomorph has always been less about what the creature looks like and more about its nature...what it does, how it lives, how it perpetuates its species. Don't get me wrong, I love the xeno design, and I'm a big fan of creature-horror. But the ALIEN series has always been at its most frightening when focusing on the aspects of body horror and parasitism that are so core to the nature of the xeno. Those elements were shirked somewhat in ALIENS, in favor of more intense action, so I'm not totally surprised that the Queen Fight didn't scare you. I mean really, as awesome as that scene is, it pretty much follows "giant-monster-fight-scene" formula.
My point here is this: Prometheus can be utterly terrifying without giant monsters. That being said, I have a feeling we're going to get our fill of awesome alien creatures by the time the credits roll. But the parts I'll be looking for, the parts that are really going to follow me out of the theater and into my nightmares, are the same as they have been since 1979...the terror of a creature whose core mechanic is the invasion, subversion, and corruption of the flesh. I pick up strong hints of those elements just from the teaser, and if I had to guess, they will be a huge theme of the movie itself.

MemberOvomorph02/13/2012True Cypher. The movies are less and less scary as the directors make the Xenos more and more animal like and less Alien...
